The Crown manages to maintain the feel of a village pub whilst still serving quality food. The bar area has a genuinely cosy feel with a real log fire - perfect for supping a pint of the excellent ales ( usually locally brewed ).

The landlord also appears to be the head chef and always seems mildly grumpy. No bad thing in my book.

Would recommend to anyone ( but not on a Friday lunchtime when I pop in for a pint and a read of my book, like it quite then )

Visited for a lunchtime meal on a Monday. About 3 people in this large pub, but when I ordered I was told it was closed for a private function. Obviously too much effort to put up any notice, and one diner with his pint would clearly have disrupted everything. Go the The Black Horse instead, a fantastic pub where they like customers.

Excellent local ales and a very friendly landlord. Helped us planning a short cut on our walk across the fields to Fotheringhay as we were running late and hadn't planned to stop at the pub! Am not from this area but will try to find an opportunity to call in again as this was such a nice place.

I read a review on here by someone blathering on about fishcakes, Quite rediculous, but i guess you always get people like that. I first went to the crown a year or so ago, when overnighting our boat on the nene, e immediately found the staff friendly and courtious and decided to have an evening meal, despite being busy, they arranged us a table in their ala carte restaurant, where we were served quickly but never harried or rushed. The food was amazing, i had the veal and it simply melted int he mouth and the rissotto accompanying it was superb. We liked it so much in fact we have since been back several times despite it being a two hour drive for food on a couple of occassions staying in one of their lovely AA 5star rooms, The best eatery in the area i would say by a long way.

This is an attractive pub where the owners have spent a lot of money on the interior, however on a visit just before Christmas the service was very slow, although polite from the bar staff.
The toilets were clean, but the seat was broken badly and there was no paper in the ladies.
My partner and I had a snack lunch which appeared to throw the staff into disarray as they proclaimed they were busy, although there were only a few diners.
The food was poor, no bread, no side order of salad despite ordering it. When we dared to comment on the quality of the fish cakes a raw one was brought from the kitchen to prove the content as "flakes of fish" as stated on the menu! We were amazed and on uttering that I felt I could have bought better in Tescos this was obviously the final straw!
We paid the bill and on leaving the owner came out to advise us that were not ever welcome in the pub again.
With so many good ones in the area to chose from this is no ordeal!
We paid the bill
