please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Pub burned down on night of Wednesday 5th August. Publican had gone missing a few days earlier.

Hope Shepherd Neame will rebuild a better pub.

I know times are hard, but expecting customers to go to the bar to ask for the light to be switched on in the gents when they need to spend a penny is a bit much.

The only ale was Spitfire and it was rancid, and on a Saturday night, too!

Carry on in either direction and try the Red Lion or the White Hart instead.

Brilliant little pub! Found while driving back from Chelmsford. Does excellent pub food and roast meals on Sundays. Really good choice of beers, friendly staff, good prices and has entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays.

Excellent little pub! Very friendly atmosphere! During the week quiet background music, so you can relax and chat to friends over a nice drink and on Saturday evenings enjoy the disco with the regular DJ 'BIG PAUL' playing everything from 60s right thru to the latest music. And on Sundays enjoy roast dinners. Has a garden too!
