Ember Inns establishment with an exterior that is currently under renovation. Located off the main drag in a residential area. Popular with groups and families, it had a reasonable selection of 5 ales - Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Ilkley Mary Jane, M & B Brew XI, St Austell Proper Job & Brakspear Bitter. A bit on the pricey side.

It's okay. Credit to them for having six handpulls and they're not bad. It's a chain pub so you'll get indifferent but efficient service and customers mainly there to drink lager and eat cheap meals. It could be much better but it could also be a lot worse.

Great choice of real ales, quality meals, good value, great atmosphere in a lovely building, friendly staff... What's not to love about the Red Lion?

Oh, and no screaming kids to ruin the evening. Perfect!

I have visited this pub on a regular (before or after Swim training at Camp Hill Edwardians SC across the road) basis since 1978 and can honestly say the quality and selection of the real ales has never been so high. The staff are always welcoming and the discounts and offers for CAMRA members well received. Well done Ember Inns and the local management for making this place a joy to visit.

Friendly, welcoming, the beer is always superb and the staff are perfect. If only everywhere was like this!
