My first visit to this pub and it is a 'proper' country pub.
We were greeted with a nice welcome from the landlady, Sarah.
It is owned by McMullen's, serving Country, AK and this month's special Mak Black, a very nice dark mild. Not often you see mild beers this day.
A number of small rooms make up a clean, cosy and well-kept interior.

A very good choice of meals with main lunches starting from £8.
All our meals were plentiful and tasty, cooked and served by the landlord/chef, Dave.

A rare 10/10 score from me, (only the second one I have given).
Will definitely return again.

McMullens pub with their AK & Country, as well as Defiant from their new craft brewery offshoot - Rivertown. This felt the slightly more posher of Puckeridge's pubs, with some enjoying Sunday roasts and others outside in the sunshine. The pub has a large garden with play equipment. The interior itself is quite compact. The Crown & Falcon did seem the slightly better pub in the village though.

Met some friends here who were over from France. Traditional old English interior with beams, inglenook, etc. All four of us enjoyed the food. We tried the AK and the Country Bitter, both were exceptionally good. The whole pub is really well kept in spotless condition. The landlady takes time to make everyone feel welcome. We live only about 16 miles from the pub and will certainly be returning from time to time. Our friends from France, though, may not be visiting so regularly.

Exceptional - high standards but unpretentious. Lots of cosy spaces; best AK I've had, and a good spot to start walks. Didn't try the food but sounds like its good.

Fabulous fish and chips. Went there for the Prix Fixe menu (3 courses for a tenner) and was really impressed. Real ales well kept, especially the AK, which was possibly the best pint of the stuff I've had in ages. No competition for food locally, so they've got it made. Lovely sounding specials on the board, like rack of lamb, smoked haddock with spinach and free range egg and the like. Not as cheap as the boil-in-the-bag boozer down the road, but definitely a cut above. Go there for something different.
