On the whole I agree with melton69.the times me have gone into this pub the staff and punters have all been friendly, but we did not go in there thinking we were better than, and looking down on the "regulars" in the pub. The building is old and being on a slope is on two floor levels that would not have seemed as bad with all the rooms that it had when new.
I do have to say that I am not a regular but the dozen or so times in the last 18 months I've been in there the Bass was fair to good(never made my tummy bad)but never top class.

I agree with the last comment - ok if you are an oik, want a punch up or a dodgy gut!!

Not everywhere is to everyone's taste: I didn't like this pub much.
Rather dark, and with a couple of not-too-sober, even at midday, [and not-too-clean] patrons, who were rather off-putting.
Bar is up a step, so there is a touch of the supplicant in the approach to the bar. Odd psychological effect.
Had a TV - tuned to a football program.
The beer [possibly Bass - this was a couple of months ago] was suggested as a possible cause of an upset stomach. May have been perfectly OK, of course.
Service was OK - but we did feel we were 'not-regulars', and not particularly welcome, either.

Wouldn't have though we'd go back when next shopping in Melton - unless the only available alternative is the Golden Arches of Ronald Macdonald.

Very friendly welcome, but the Bass was decidedly dodgy, which has been my experience quite a few times over the years unfortunately. If you want a well kept pint of real ale, there are better places in Melton.
