Don't like the refurb, but did like the pint of Oakham Citra that I had in here last week. The Tuesday night quiz was enjoyable too.

IN JULY A MAN CAME IN MY LOCAL PUB THE BULL AT BARTON-LE-CLAY WITH A WOMAN INTOW WHO OBVIOUSLY DIDNOT WANT TO BE THERE, HE WAS OBNOCTIOUS, RUDE AND SELF APINIONATED, HE ORDERED A LIME AND SODA, THE BULLS SODA IS REAL SODA FROM A SODA BOTTLE NOT CARBINATED WATER FROM A PUMP, WHICH A CASE OF 6 COSTS OVER 21.00, AND WHEN TOLD THE COST WENT INTO ONE, THE WOMAN BEHIND HIM RAISED HER EYEBROWS AND LOOKED AT THE CEILING, AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF THIS IT WAS SUGGETED THAT HE SHOULD DRINK SOMEWARE ELSE.
NOW WE SEE THAT HE IS RUNNING THE BULL DOWN AND CLAIMING THE CLEANERS DON'T DO THIER JOB PROPERLY, BUT TEREAGAIN WE ALL HAVE TO PUT UP WITH PILLOCKS SOMETIME

Popped in to 'The bull' one afternoon (1.00ish) on the way through Barton Le Clay, looking for a place to have lunch. Walked into an empty pub, after a long car journey I needed the loo, went to the toilet which is via the restaurant part, this area was cluttered and dirty. The toilets were absolutely filthy. We decided not to eat here as it was empty, smelly and dirty. However, because I'd used the toilet I thought we'd better have a drink out of courtesy. Didnt have much cash on us, only cards (didn't want to buy 2 soft drinks with a card) so ask for lime and soda! This was ridiculously over priced. Got the feeling the man serving didn't like to look of us he grunted at us and looked us up and down, like we were going to be trouble of something!?!? Then when my partner decided he didn't want to buy a drink. The man serving told us to leave! Personally insulted us.. Name calling!! We were shocked, this establishment is certainly not a friendly place (well not to visitors) SO steer clear..It's Filthy and the customer service skills of the staff leave a lot to be desired! No wonder the place was empty when we walked in....AT LUNCH TIME, I can only assume the food is as lousy as the service!! I feel sorry for the locals as there isn't a lot of choice for pubs in this village.

This pub was really quiet (just one other patron) when we visited last Saturday lunchtime. I soon realised why when I discovered how expensive it was. The real ale selection turned out to be quite good when compared with the Greene King and Charles Wells pubs I was to visit later on - Sharp's Doom Bar, Adnam's Broadside, Oldershaw Mowbray's Mash and Oxfordshire Marshmellow. However the prices would deter me from visiting again.

Old pub spoiled by quotations on the ceiling that make it look more chainy; OK beer (inc. McMullens) but very quiet and no food trade to bolster beer sales.
