Visited in Feb. 2012. A chain pub from Deben Inns, one of five I believe. The bar staff were typical "here for the wages not to make conversation" people, apart from one nice waitress who almost made up for the others. We ate here twice, an evening and an afternoon meal on different days. Although fairly pricey, the food was excellent, and couldn't be faulted. Perhaps they have different kitchen staff since goplanit visited last year?
The toilets were pretty grotty though, with a smashed toilet lid leaving large jagged edges sticking up, and the room needing a good scrub down, top to bottom. (found this out after eating!)
The barman took advantage of a quiet spell to sit on the customer side of the bar to eat his lunch, no problem as such, but to totally ignore a group of four that walked in, not even speaking to them, and to leave them waiting until he finished was unacceptable. Why could not one of the others have stood in for 15 minutes?
Ratings? Staff 4, food 9, furnishings 6, toilet 3. average of 5.5

My partner had eaten here a couple of years ago and raved about the food so we thought we would treat ourselves to a evening meal.
What a mistake!
We were seated straight away, we hadn't booked but there was only a handful of people in so it wasn't a problem (I did wonder why there was so few people in at 7.30pm on a Satureday evening). I fancied the beer battered cod and chips, it came with salad and peas, is it just me or is that an odd combination? It was dissapointing, the batter was soggy, the salad was limp although the chips were loverly and crispy, just how I like them and the cod was tasty, it was just about OK although I thought expensive.
My partner had a main course off the specials board, smoked salmon fishcakes, salad and new potatoes. New these potatoes weren't! when cut in half they were grey inside, as though they had been cooked days ago and reheated for this night, the fish cakes had plenty of spinache in but a very sad lack of salmon and once again the salad was limp and tasteless, certainly not fresh.
I won't be going there again and would not reccomend this place to anyone.
