Thanks for putting this up as pub of the day - it's prompted me to remind everyone how crap and bland this place is

Bars on Northcote rd are pretty much unspeakable and this place is about unspoken as it gets

Very expensive drinks for no particular reason, food is equally bad value.

There is a decent selection of European beers though, Duvel, Vedett, Frulli, Kwak, etc..

Looks like Becks has replaced Carling as the downgrade lager in this place. I now pay 3.35 for the opportunity to drink this stuff.

Again, three pints for under a tenner. You're in the wrong place. RE: my below comment about the price of the coke. Last week, a Becks and a blackcurrant & soda (pint of) came to 4.90. 1.55 for a dash of cordial?! I must be helping to pay for all those damn clocks on the wall. Turn it back to a proper bank I say.

Aaaaargh! The only time I would even consider going back to this poo hole was if I had been given 3 months to live and a machine gun.

Changed its name to The Bank

I thought it was a shoe shop

I often meet a mate down here and because we are both driving, we drink coke. However, this place has to be the most stringent on Northcote Road for mixing syrup with soda water.

What really gets my back up is the attitude of the bar staff... one of them in particular, when you tell them that your coke tastes like fizzy water. They look like I've just told them that their mother has died. "Don't get that attitude with me sunshine". This half pint or pint of coke costs the pub three pence and costs me about two pounds, so don't get stroppy with me if I ask you to serve me another one or top up the syrup!

another crap chain bar there are so many good bars around, at summer time people fall out of this place to get some rays and that is the only good thing about it........ there is nothing trendy about this place it is amazing that anybody thinks that it is ..strange world

Expensive chain pub. You know the score.

how many times have you heard anyone tell how they had an amazing night in "The Fine Line"?

Exactly.

Soulless, bland, predictable, but ok for a quick lunch and friendly enough service.

I do not understand why anyone would spend their valuable time here... you only get one chance at life - do you really want to waste it here?
big_fat_barsteward - 26 May 2006 17:18
rubbish. more atmosphere in a cemetary. full of bores and wannabees.
evers - 29 Aug 2005 15:39
Same old chainy type place. Very loud. The bar staff and bouncers are extremely aggressive and it takes forever to get served.

Fine Line (Bank) on Northcote Rd.
Very trendy. Frill set, expensive drinks. Nice atmosphere when not too crowded.

Not a bad place but the ladies loo's were a trek and a half to get to!!!! The drinks range was fairly normal but they appeared to have some fairly decent wines and alcopops available and the spirits selection was probably more impressive than the beer selection. I was sat outside mostly after a big dinner and sitting on the wall wasn't exactly a lady like classy thing to do so more seating inside and out would really help this place boost it's rating from me.

Just a note to say that these comments mix up The Fine Line, Northcote Road and The Fine Line, Clapham High Street. Northcote reopened in April and Clapham has just reopened after extensive refurbs. Clapham has the late license. Northcote doesn't. Great bars!

When I first moved to Clapham I went here as it was one of the few places that opened after 11pm on the high street (apart from the crammed Cafe Sol and rip-off merchant Infernos). It's an okay sort of place, but not one you want to take a girl unless you like her being hit on by arrogant drunks. People never seem that relaxed on the small dancefloor and one warning to heed above all others - the bar staff tend to make up prices the further the night goes on. A G&T can range a good 2 in price, so watch yourself! Best drink on this strip for my money is the Calf - cool atmosphere, nicely done out, none of the pretensiousness.

I live locally, and although there are plenty of places to drink on Northcote road, the Fine Line is one of the best. It was closed recently for an update and the new booths are a good idea for those eating. it's good to see that standards haven't slipped here despite the change of management. Sue from Battersea

The manager of this place is great fun and really professional. It always makes for a good night out on a weekend.
anonymous - 23 Jul 2004 14:56
I hate this bar, but find if I had no luck with ladies anywhere else, and turn up around 11.30pm, one is guaranteed to pull. Which is good as if you fail here and end up in Infernos or some equally poor bar your screwed (either get outnumbered by sweaty minging fat blokes or pull a not so nice lady in the dark).
I agree there are a dodgy load of single blokes here earlier on. Which helps as when you turn up late, ladies are keen to hide from the perverts eyes.

Anyway - Good bar to visit before a poor nightclub.

nothing special about this place! dodgy old men don't exaclty go with the funk/soul music!
Joo - 15 Mar 2004 18:39
I didn't think this place was really overpriced, the music was funk/disco, which was alright, rather emppty for a Fri night tho!
Too many old single men looking for a pull! but at least it opens until 1am and for free.
JP - 23 Feb 2004 17:35
Over-priced and as a result attracts people who think expensive is best.

There's plently of better bars in Clapham. I suggest you go to any of those instead.
Phil - 2 Jan 2004 18:26
Not the greatest place for a drink and food is average, staff are crap. Too expensive and the music is too loud!
anonymous - 9 Dec 2003 19:40
It's horrible - tries too hard and charges too much!
Tx - 20 Jun 2003 11:52
The music is always too loud (or am I getting old...)
Mat - 16 Jun 2003 14:38
Very overpriced. Only serve doubles unless you ask for a single! Very "see and be seen", but not much to look at!
