user reviews of Stanmer Park, Brighton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This place is not quite as bad as it used to be. It has undergone a considerable mekeover and has a new name (5Ways). There are loads of good beers, lagers and ciders. The place is also busier and attracts a wider range of clientelle so if you pick your moments, you can relax but they still need security on weekend evenings.

The food is now pretty good and I do take my missus down there for her birthday treat.

The pub is popular again, so I really hope they keep the higher standards up.

Stanmer Park well as you can see from previous comments WAS one to give a miss but a family has taken over and what a diffence. It is now not a place i would avoid, i took my family down on a thursday night for the quiz (jim the quiz master was great) prizes are fun and there is a big cash prize chance at the end(195 when i went) but on a the whole a nice pub nice staff. Food is a great price and value and when the sport is on you can still eat in the bottom area(boys can still see the t.v) should visit give this pub and give it a second chance.

I drank my first ever pint (Grotneys Special fizz if my memory serves me correctly) in this pub way back when at the tender age of 17 years and 4 months. Judging from the previous reviews, looks like any pint I might choose to drink in there these days could well turn out to be my last!

I agree that this pub used to be one to avoid, HOWEVER, i think a family have taken it over recently and the change is fantastic, I took my family for Sunday lunch and had a really pleasant time, there is now a separate area for eating to watching football so the atmosphere is completely different! I would take my children for a Sunday lunch again without question, it's brilliant to have a nice family pub in our area now!

If you want a night from hell visit this pub. The clientel are more like off the street alcoholics. Went for a quiet drink and was threatened verbally and physically, yet no bar staff or security dealt. the same group and individual are always there and are very intoxicated, agressive in the process thinking they have the right because have not yet been barred. Avoid this clicky poorly run venue.

nicknamed the zoo, this hideous chain pub dive was closed a few christmases ago due to fighting amongst knuckledragging locals. It reopened, and nothing really changed except more tv screens, cctv and no pool table. its one of those places where the only way you can't see a tv screen is if you close your eyes. The clientele is sad old geezers, oiks and students who havent learned that a meal for 2.99 is never going to be better value or more nutritous than eating their own socks. The regulars are people who can't climb back up the steep hill after visiting one of the better establishments at lower altitude, and those who can't bear the pretenciously nouveau yuppie mothers meeting that is the adjacent Tin Drum. Beer is swill, food is awful, atmosphere is setanta and moody staff on minimum wage. Avoid

A ghastly barn of a place - it barely qualifies for the description, "pub."

Huge and loud screens showing the usual 'Footie' et-al. Bar staff seemingly disinterested (not surprisingly mayhap!) as if, even acknowledging your presence is an effort, let alone serving you, and It seems to be populated by those that you go on holiday to avoid!

I would suggest that YOU avoid

This pub has really changed over the last year or so.

I've lived nearby for 2 years and when I moved in it had just been closed down. When it re-opened it had a really hostile atmosphere even though it was always dead!

Now, I think there are new people managing it. It;s a great local to watch the footie and a pint is cheap too!

Avoid this pub and this area espically Hollingdean reminds me of Peckham at 2 in the morning

i feel its only right after everyones been slagging this place off that I set the record straight, I have visited this place on many occasions with moley burtie 6 chins and ricwaa the peado. its a wonderful pub with a wonderful view of the rolling downs and of the river thames. i also once saw a woman give birth to a baby octopuss.

This pub has been spoilt by the trend for making one big room out of several bars. The place is too big and there is too much of a mix of people. If this place was split up into public bar and lounge bar it would suit the needs of the community better.
Due to recent trouble you have to drink out of plastic glasses. The staff are young and inexperienced and unable to cope with the livlier drinkers. However, it is a good local amenity and hopefully it will recover from its current troubles.

Ive lived here for the last 5 years and pop in from thime to time this is my opinion and I feel the opion of many others in this area.
What a filthy crap hole in the top bar. Strange pub if you could close down the top area and just have the bottom bar without the scum from the top comming down. Would be a half decent pub, some nice customers in the bottom and much more relaxed. Avoid if you dont enjoy druged up crack heads spoiling your time, in my opioion, which if in the top bar your not allowed to have.Other than that cheap food and drink with some good staff.(Which I feel so sorry for, not that they stay to long.)

Since it got shut down for violence at Xmas (now open again) it's not such an aggressive place to go for a beer. But if you want to relax go somewhere else.

its modern, very clean, and cheap - would have thought that all that adds up to one good pub rather than the previous reviews! theres no chance of fights with the doormen keeping an eye on things and some new rules will surely keep the louts of brighton away from here. they also show the big games on a big screen over the weekend which is very popular so get there early to grab a seat! be prepared for queues at the bar though when matches are shown!

This pub has been closed after one fight too many

Good for a cheap pint and a meal straight out the microwave if you know what I mean, but unless you're looking for a fight I would avoid this place like the plague!

I am terrified of this pub. I have seen many people gte beaten up here.

Other than that its great, cheap booze and reasonably friendly staff.

Ran this place for just over 2 years - was the reason for me moving to Brighton, as it happens - had a great time there: locals covered the whole gamut from Friday night builders to Captain Sensible's dad. Funny thing is, given its reputation as "The Zoo", I never (and I mean never!) suffered from the problems that previous managers experienced.

Not saying I didn't have my problem occasions, mind you - maybe I just handled them differently to my predecessors.

Rating based on some good laughs and some VERY good staff that worked for me.
