please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Open when I made a visit last Saturday just before noon and I was the only customer.
Appears to be more food orientated than boozer.
4 hand pulls but one was blank. 1 for Theakstons Bitter 1 for Courage Directors.
I had a pint of the other one which was called Gravel Bear Beer which was ok and cost £3.60.

I often frequent the flyer and can safely say the remark about catering to pot heads is untrue this is the friendliest pub intown there are never any fights and you can relax and be yourself the landlord and landlady are the friendliest in town and really welcome you in the staff are very friendly and entertaining at times if you hate towny pubs then this is the place to go

Nothing like it used to be.....
Once managed by one of the last 'real' landlords (Derek). He got rid of the pot heads and raised the image of the pub to a good standard(used to have excellent food) and he made you want to come back. That was the last time this pub was worth frequenting. As mentioned previously it was 'The Place' to be several years ago. Now it 'openly' caters to pot heads once again. All standards have dropped and we once again see a local pub fail to live up to its potential. Shame!

Food: Have not eaten in there for several years
Decor: Cheap, dirty & a bit smelly
Toilets: Very poor, rarely checked
Service: Some good bar staff (a friendly scottish lad is the only thing keeping this pub from slipping to the level of 'Chicagos') and prompt service

In the Flying Horse days it was THE place...then they changed the name to the Auctioneer [why??] and the rot set in....till another revamp and rename as the New Flyer...it`s back on the right track again this landlord has shook the place up and it`s worth going in again....good live music local groups given a chance...a good night out

Was in the pub over the weekend. Great atmosphere and good fun! Shame the landlord was Scottish....he enjoyed the rugby....great fun though! Really recommend for a relaxed fun pub

I spent all last weekend in this pub and had a ball. Really enjoyed it. The landlord and landlady were the friendliest publicans i`ve ever met. Truely dedicated.

Has the last person even been in my pub! Haven't had a dj or disco for 3 years! Oh and we do courage best! Apart from that its a top review!

Loud and scruffy pub in he town centre. Often hosts disco's on a Friday / Sat night. No Real Ale any more. This used to be the most popular pub in town, a sad remnant of its glory remains.

As far as I know, this pub (originally The Flying Horse) is the oldest one in town. Now it's the flyer again. Not bad - bit of a heavy metal pub but quite friendly and old-fashioned. Great jukebox.
