user reviews of the Grapes, Hereford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

As a Yorkshireman in Hereford for the first time I wasn't disappointed with the much vaunted Barrel or Lichfield Vaults- and I was optimistic when I saw the heritage sign outside the Grapes describing it as a historic inn. What a disappointment inside. Everything of antiquity had evidently been ripped out in the refurb and there were adults talking at the bar with babies in their arms, whilst the bar staff concentrated on serving meals rather than beer. When I was finally served I was overcharged double- price. Okay it was Easter Monday afternoon when the pub could cash-in on families eating- but lets get the basics right, and take down that heritage sign, it surely infringes the trade description act! A real travesty. Mind you I soon cheered up when I discovered the Stage Coach.

Refurb is still going on..... We liked the old town and thought this would be good for lunch. Good service... A bit of a lengthy wait for food but good quality when it came.

Went here on Saturday Easter lunchtime. Excellent pub food, locally sourced, and a good selection of beers and ciders. Wye Valley seems to be their 'house' beer.

Like its near neighbour the Lichfield Vaults, this has been much improved by new owners who've smartened the place up and improved the beer range. Church Street area is now not a bad place to spend an evening.

Another pub that was totally deserted at 9.30 in the evening (when the nearby Lichfield Vaults was buzzing).

We went to Hereford for a day out and stumbled across this pub ,which I gather has undergone a major refurb very nicely done .the food and the service were good as well as being resonable prices,a selection of beers and ciders no offer

Quite nice since the refurb. Good range of beer, pleasant bar staff and clientele don't seem as pikeyesque as previously.

Recently purchased by a new pub company The Grapes is in for some major changes in 2011. closure fort around 4 weeks sometime in January will allow for a complete refurbishment and a change of operating style which will include real ales & ciders, local wines and a great food offering made mostly from local ingredients from independant local suppliers.

Rating of 5 for now but hoping for 10 next year...

Cant wait for the changes to happen... watch this space

Dont really know what to make of this place, gave it another visit on saturday and the place/clientile/everything never changes. The no smoking area is upstairs, which is quite cool, but i am pretty lazy so i opted for the street.

What key can open any lock - yes, it's a pikey! And the Grapes is an even worse joke than that one. Jimbo got it right - it is clear that this pub is not even interested in providing decent beer which is a criminal waste of a good location.

I like this pub, usually venture into here on a night out and am always glad i made the trek. The beer is good, the clientele are a bit pikeyesque but not too bad as long as you dont bring up scrap metal in a conversation! It is a large, traditional pub with pool tables and two bars. A good place to be

Please ignore the views of Homerj and Jimbo on this pub, they clearly do not know a decent pub when they are in one! The grapes has plenty to offer, good beer, top staff, pool, music and large screen tv. Locals are mainly football fans, a mixture of all clubs, can become a bit volatile at times, but nothing that should put people off. A realy good place to be at anytime of the day, the sort of pub you go in and loose track of time!

well i think the grapes pub is a pretty good place, sit back and relax, listen to ur face music, or get drunk! its a good place to be to settle before going to a club

Basic modern town centre pub, the unremarkable facade ruining good historic features. Music and MTV do their best to make up for a total lack of atmosphere or ambience. Keg beers and the ubiquitous town centre gassy GL cider especially loved by Herefordian's are the only drinks on offer. Overall, a big disappointment.
