Only able to sit outside and, because it was busy, we were only just inside the gates with resultant traffic noise. Average pint of Church End What the Fox's hat.

Is this where the revolution in beer in the UK has taken us? By most standards excellent and handy for the station, perhaps standards have risen so vertiginously in British pubs in recent times that this seemed no more than a good solid option. The much feted but, whisper it, slightly overrated Church End Brewery dominate the pumps, with their national champion brew Goat’s Milk taking pride of place. Lighting could be dimmer and the clientele is very classic CAMRA.

One of two tied houses for the Church End Brewery (Nuneaton).

Traditional Pub that's had a bit of tidying up over the years but maintains a pubby feel. Outdoor patio area is lovely on warmer days and has a covered glass roof.

Beers were half a dozen from Chrurch End - I went for the 2017 Supreme Beer Winner - Goat Milk. A very nice golden.

Good Beer Guide 2019 Entry.

I was really disappointed with this place. A good range of ales but as a pub lacked any atmosphere. Just a room selling ales. Couldn't have the usual tasters due to camra members coming to the pub just for tasters and only buying half a pint.

An excellent pub just up from Foregate Station.

This was my first pub after the match @ Worcester City so I was in here around 5.15pm, there were a few locals in and the choice in this free house was very good and varied. 6 pumps all dispensing different beers, the dark beer I had was very good.

The decoration is good and there are a large quantity of pump clips that adorn the walls, this really is a huge collection

2 points to note first of all the very friendly pub dog and the extremely knowledgeable bar man who pointed me in the direction of a cracking pint.

Good selection of German beers in bottle as well.

Nice, welcoming pub with friendly regulars and 6 cask ales on just a short walk from Foregate Street.
Beers we tried were well kept and a good variety.
Well worth a visit.
bromsgrovebeerboy - 26 Aug 2012 19:23
Absolute heaven for a real ale drinker, seem to remember 6 ale on draught on about 9 Belgian bottled beers.

My friend was on the solitary lager on draught and that was very well kept too.

Located a short walk from Worcester Foregate street station, this is a welcoming pub which gets busy on a weekend.

Well worth a visit.

I visited this pub at the weekend and what a FAB place this is. We sampled all the ales and each of them were in great order... there were beers from all over. The food was lovely with really good chunky chips. There was a fab pub dog, a smoking area and beer garden at the rear. If I am ever in Worcester again I will make sure I call in..... there is just one down side.... there was no TV to watch the footy results come in.... apart from that... a superb pub...

A Real Ale paradise. Excellent!
asprilla69 - 21 May 2011 17:38
Easily the best pub in Worcester - 6 good real ales. The owners also own The Little Ale Cart brewery so there are usually a few of those on offer. Prices very reasonable.

Watch the opening hours - currently evening only (1630) Monday and Tuesday, lunch and evening Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and all day Friday and Saturday.

Drawn to this pub thanks to the GBG, we were not in any way disappointed. There were 6 ales dispensed on handpump, and unusually none could be considered ubiquitous or a "standard" choice; each one was an unusual and intriguing selection and whilst this may throw the lover of more generic brews, to those who revel in the untried and untested it was a winner. Despite the distance, the Dragon seems to have formed an attachment to the Little Ale Cart Brewery of Sheffield, and there was nowt wrong in that; their beers were found to have travelled superbly. All others - mostly Locales - were also in cracking form, and all served by a convivial barman. The atmosphere was mellow and relaxed, and we felt we could just as happily have been visiting single-handedly as in a large group and would've been equally comfortable.
Food looked to be reasonable and on for similarly competitive prices to the beer, although we were not in the market for food at that point. Note the Top 3 topics of conversation currently banned - one of our number was a little too keen on the history of locomotives and I had to warn him of the possible penalty if he pursued this avenue!

An otherwise unexceptional city pub, but the ales and overall ethos of the place really does lift it and render this a must-call for quaffers who fetch up in Worcester.

One of the best pubs in the country. Very well kept real ales.
bigbeermonkey - 28 Sep 2010 19:07
Great single room pub, excellent range of ales and well priced too @ between 2.00 - 2.60. Beer tried was in superb condition and the barman friendly and good at his job. What more can a drinker ask for?
MisterX - 6 Aug 2010 23:08
A good town pub with a good selection of ales (tried the Vale Mill on this visit) and not far from the Foregate Street station (you pass a couple of other pubs and a Wetherspoons on the way to it. Staff were functional as opposed to engaging though sometimes I suppose that's what you want.

Went here last week on my way to see the Worcester v Bath City game.

Good selection of ales though I can't recall what they were called. The stout was very good. In fact the pub was so good that me and my friend returned after we saw our team Bath City thrash Worcester 2-0. Nice little beer terrace out the back. I wouldn't call it a garden because there's no grass!

Will return next time I visit Worcester and would recommend it. Bar staff are friendly too!

Late review from last month. Ended up here as the last pub of the night on a crawl of Worcester. Still quite busy at 2300. Enjoyed a pint that was well-kept (can't recall the ale). Not the best pub of the night in my view but still worth a visit.
Ordinary - 29 Mar 2010 22:26
Excellent selection of drinks in a smug, cliquey, self-congratulatory atmosphere. Precisely the sort of place CAMRA types piss their cords over, and ordinary folk get rightly frustrated by.
absintheur - 23 Nov 2009 03:17
Single roomed pub with a selection of settles, round tables and chairs. There are lots of jokey things around the walls and theres an outdoor patio with bench seating, for some reason theres also a bus stop out here. Seven handpumps including a real cider. The landlord also owns the Wellington in Sheffield which is the home of the Little Ale Cart brewery, so theres always one of theirs on the bar, the others are changing guests. I had a pint of the Little Ale Cart Galtee More and a Weatheroak Keystone Hops both were excellent. The other half had two halves of a beer from Pictish. How come I can get Pictish in Worcester but not in my home town where its brewed !!!!!!
Its a great pub is this and vies with The Plough for the best pub in Worcester award in my opinion.

ROBCamra - 13 Nov 2009 14:48
It was very quiet when we called in today, and we enjoyed Little Ale Cart Lord Glenallan, and Salamander Trouser Trumpet, a lovely porter. Nearly missed out on Millstone Baby Git as I thought we had had it before, but it was another new beer for us. We thought we would be able to have lunch, but it is only available Friday and Saturdays. Shame - I really fancied the bubble and squeak.
gillhalfpint - 21 Oct 2009 18:10
Great pub with proper beer, the landlord is a true legend. One of very few real ale pubs in the country that actually know how to serve it.
richworcester - 4 Aug 2009 13:55
Good beer in the dragon but the landlord is ignorant!!
smiler47 - 3 Aug 2009 20:52
EEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!

Father Jack has been rumbled. Excellent Millstone beer here last night served by friendly staff. I'm saying nowt else!!!! Ha ha ha.
an_ecunemical_matter - 4 Jul 2009 11:15
Probably the best pub in Worcester city for ale but just a little too cliquely and smacking of the private club for my liking. The Saracens Head across the road is a more genuine and friendly pub.

Isn't it tragic when the final comment on a pub is that the one over the road is better? ......... sorry everyone.
anonymous - 28 Feb 2009 18:13
The best pub in the region for my money and you'd struggle to get a bettr pint anywhere. Beer range varies, but generally you might see Cannon Royal, Millstone, Pictish etc and what you get here is often unique to the area, including their very own 'Little Ale Cart' beers which are well worth a trip.

If you like a pale and hoppy bitter, then you'll wonder why you ever went anywhere else.
Klaude_Martner - 27 Feb 2009 14:26
Still as great as ever. Surprised some of my beer ticking companions as they hadn't been here before(they "got" 5 new beers!!!). Barman was friendly but should have been doing less canoodling with his woman and more serving. No sign of the landlord. The best in Worcester.
an_ecunemical_matter - 16 Feb 2009 10:45
Hunted this one down on a flying visit through Worcester, dropping in at about 2.30 on a Sunday. Only a smattering of locals in as we arrived, but soon augmented by a dozen-strong group that pile in just behind us. No frills single room drinker's den, excellent range and quality of ales, nice little selection of malts as well. Driving limited me to just the two halves, but will make a point of returning car-less in the near future...
Gristy - 22 Dec 2008 11:31
Visited a few months ago. Ale was magic as usual. Landlord (bizarrely) seems to like me and always has a chat. He asked me would I like to try a pint of ale from his own new brewery. Gee thanks yeah I said and off he went to the cellar. Yes it was a good pint where often new brewery beer can be hit and miss. Yes very enjoyable I said as I drank it. "2.40 please" he said...............heh heh heh. Legendary landlord in a legendary pub.
an_ecunemical_matter - 30 Nov 2008 11:19
A medium sized, open plan pub, just a few minutes walk away from the high street. It has quite a plain interior, to the extent of even having the dreaded Artex on the ceiling, in the main room. Benches line the wall as well as traditional round tables and chairs. There is a partially covered outdoor drinking area to the rear.

There were seven real ales available when I called and the quality of the MHB Swedish Nightingale and particularly the Oakham Endless Summer, on this visit, was excellent. There were also Belgian beers and a good selection of malt whisky available. Huge sandwiches looked good value.

The young barman was friendly and obliging.

As an infrequent visitor to Worcester, Ive always headed to The Dragon on automatic pilot, because of its glowing reputation and Good Beer Guide listing. However, on this last visit I finally admitted to myself that I dont really like it as a pub. Despite all its good points, it just doesnt do it for me.

Out of curiosity I tried The Plough, also GBG listed, on the same weekend. If you like your pubs a little more cosy and intimate, like I do, I suggest you try there instead.

aleandhearty - 17 Oct 2008 15:11
Top of the range pub, excellent range of well kept beers.

Fully endorse comments made by others
LickeyEndBooze - 18 May 2008 11:51
As far as I'm concerned, this is easily the best pub in Worcester, and one of the best in the UK
nobbynobnob - 4 May 2008 13:16
One of the premier real ale pubs in Worcester and one that all enthusiasts will head for when visiting. A good ever changing range that usually includes a stout or porter and a real cider. Its not a large bar but there are a few tables outside at the back that act as an overflow. Visit there if you get the chance, we need real pubs like this to survive. Only 5 minutes walk from Foregate St station
Millay - 20 Feb 2008 14:47
A first class 'real ale' pub. No T.V. No jukebox. The staff are very knowledgeable about the beers and many other topics. Don't ask for "lager" or "Guinness". These words are regarded as bad language by the owner.
samexbt - 10 Jan 2008 18:39
The Dragon Inn is a free house, near to Foregate Street railway staion in the centre of Worcester. An excellent range of six regularly changing real ales are always available, one of which is usually a stout or porter, plus a real cider and a range of single malt whiskies. Beer always served in first class tip-top condition. Good quality reasonably priced food available at lunchtimes, (not Sundays). Staff are always friendly and knowledgeable about the beers they sell. A quiet, conversational, locals pub in the city centre, where noisy large groups or rowdyism are not tolerated. Beware, do not ask for lager or Guinness ! Very much a real ale pub.

andrewcrampton - 5 Jan 2008 17:27
Always a must to visit when in Worcester. Friendly staff and excellent ales. Never been disappointed.
gillhalfpint - 28 Aug 2007 11:19
Beware. Nice beer but the bar staff might rip you off. I paid with $20 note but bar man claimed only 10. I had no proof so lost money. caution is recommended when paying.
keith1234 - 19 Aug 2007 00:33
Old fashioned no-frills boozer near the city centre, yet cosy and friendly atmosphere. Staff were friendly and efficient and most important of all the ale quality was top notch - simply couldn't have been better.
Rich66 - 26 Jun 2007 22:32
One of the best pubs. Excellent beer. Very good food. Always a good stoat or porter on. A happy place to be on a rainy afternoon.
redflag - 24 Jun 2007 19:25
Called in on a Sunday lunchtime and the pub was fairly quiet. However, the range and quality of beers were impressive and the landlord was fairly hospitable.
ed.spbw - 26 May 2007 21:59
The ale was kept in O.K condition, it can't really compete with the likes of the Plough, fish street worcs. This pub is very average, food, ale and atmosphere. Very miserable landlord, seems he hates his job and his drinkers. crazy old world.
anonymous - 20 Jan 2007 20:45
Our first impressions from the outside were of someones house rather than a pub,we nearly didn't go in but glad we did as the beer was excellent.Several local beers including one of the nicest hand drawn stouts i've had in ages.We had bacon & brie batons from the bar snacks, very nice they were and reasonably priced.Returned weeeks later (we're not local) and although the beers had changed they were all still on top form. The staff were friendly too.We will definately be returning on our next visit to Worcester.
soupdragon - 25 Dec 2006 19:28
Always a pub to visit when in Worcester and I enjoyed 5 halves of excellent beer at this visit. The food was also excellent from a varied menu at reasonable prices.
gillhalfpint - 14 Nov 2006 23:02
Interesting beer range, well kept. Staff and locals friendly. Food very good with reasonable prices. Will visit again when in Worcester.
Caraman - 12 Nov 2006 17:50
Well kept beer, pleasant staff and good food at reasonable prices. Worth a visit.
joegreen - 10 Aug 2006 14:12
Another inner city Pub that was closed. Tried to have a pint of good ale before catching the train 17:00 train from Foregate station. Another experience lost. Had to settle for a pint of Guiness at The Gateway in Reading.
FirstGom - 18 May 2006 17:47
Worcester's premiere real ale pub, rotating the range of brews available regularly with a cider and either a porter or mild almost always on tap. Blackboard in the bar area gives tasting notes.
The pub can be rather crampt (mainly filled with friendly regulars) but the yard out back has seating available.
Unlikely to be everyones cup of tea (a bit too middle aged and local?) but if you like your real ale this is the place to go - particularly to try new ales which you've not enountered before.
hwicce - 18 Apr 2006 19:48
I have recently moved to Worcester and the Dragon is my local. The place if comfortable, friendly and sells a large selection of excellent real ales. The beer is always very well kept (I've been going 4 weeks now) and a good temperature. Their cider is good too although I'm not a connoisseur! Staff are friendly and helpful despite one comment on the site! Will try the grub soon and take a pic. Well worth a visit!
spongeybum - 2 Dec 2005 11:44
Good range of ciders (not as good as the Apple Tree, of course). Friendly staff. Rather smokey and the clientele is a bit dog-on-string but none the worse for it.
el_capitano - 14 Mar 2005 19:27
We had just finished work (in an office) and went into the Dragon a couple of months ago and we ordered 6 Lagers & 1 Bitter. The barman said F%K off to Weatherspoons, you Lager drinkers! The fact that they sold lager in the first place, left us speechless to say the least.
Richard Oliver - 3 Nov 2004 13:35
Excellent real ale pub, constantly changing real ales and ciders. friendly staff.
