user reviews of the White Lion, Stevenage

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The White Lion has had a refurbishment, and is now called the Mulberry Tree.

Perhaps some of the customers should have a refurbishment,
as there is an old saying that you can change a pub, but if you have the same customers
why bother.

This pub has been renamed THE MULBERRY TREE

Very relaxing and very comfortable historic pub, which was number 4 on our 10-pub crawl around Old Stevenage. Just three real ales on offer - I had the Rocking Rudolph which was well-kept. The menu was more expensive than the Drapers Arms down the road, but the food looked better quality. You could bring your mum or your family here, and they would be fine. A greater range of beers would be preferred, especially as one of them was GK IPA.

Last time I was in here was when Arsenal were in the champions league final.....

Standard chain pub. Perfectly OK.

Had lunch in there today with my brother and it was fine, good food and greeted and served by polite, social and particularly beautiful member of staff. Think she was the manager. Look forward to going back there some time.

Sunday afternoon, and it's very quiet in here apart from the darts that's being shown on the tv at full blast to the one guy who is not watching anyway. Two bar staff one young chap sporting the pikey flat cap, the other a larger woman who either has a headache or is half asleep as she cannot keep her uninterested eyes open while she serves me a guiness which at 3.05 is fine. This pub as potential and it might be worth a visit again
in the evening when I suspect it gets lively and perhaps attracts some tits and arse in the bar.

If you can get over the fact it is yet another Greene King managed house, its quite good. IPA is well kept, staff are friendly, sport is shown; not convinced the regulars are that welcoming, but will persist!

Celebrated my 26th Birthday down here, was a fantastic night and enjoyed by all.
Well done to Graham who has been here years you know how to entertain everyone who comes down to the pub.
The White Lion would not be the same without you on a Saturday Night
Karaoke is great and if you want a fun night out this is the place to go, because you will be entertained by all who have a hand in running a Sturday Night.
The staff are friendly and helpful, plus drinks are reasonibly priced.
Well done graham keep it up we all love you

Probably the best pint of IPA I've had in Stevenage in the last year and with a 1:00 am finish, who needs to go elsewhere?
Saturday Karaoke still going strong with Graham who can't help but add some fun and laughter to your evening, though beware when the footie crowds are in as it can get very crowded!

A decent enough meeting place in Stevenage's Old Town, where I was served really quickly at the bar from the friendly women working when here with mates on a Friday night (8 Sept). There was a DJ playing funky house music which gave the place a lively atmosphere and the drinks were relatively cheap. Yet it was far too full of blokes and therefore not a place to begin the H-File search. In short, a place to start, but not to finish in this part of the World.

Still the best in the Old Town, however have recently been in there and it has been over-run with the cockatoo hair boys who look about 12 were in but are quite amusing to watch, god I feel old! Good music Fridays when the DJ is in and fantastic staff. Great atmosphere when big games are on and loads of TV screens so you can usually see oneof them even if it's packed. Good sun trap in the car park in the summer!

Heard there was a good karaoke on Saturday nights, so the wife and I thought we'd give it a try. As we had to drive up from London, I was very pleased to note that they had a decent size car park at the back. First impressions were very good, friendly bar staff, prompt service, reasonably priced drinks. Good atmosphere in the karaoke with the KJ Graham keeping things moving and a range of singers of above average standard. We'll be back soon with a couple of friends.

this is the pub to be in on a fri /sat night it's the most populor place to meet before setting off on a binge ,also may i state that the karaoke night ( every sat ) with graham is the best karaoke in the area and without him saturday's would not be the same .... if in doubt ask the regulars who freqently spend 5k week in week out behind the bar

I recently returned to this pub after giving it a miss for a few years and was pleasantly surprised as they now play decent music (not the usual cheese found in most other pubs in Stevenage)apart from the dreaded Karaoke nights although if you sit far enough away you can just about imagine it is only a DJ as the standard of singing isn't too bad usually! I've seen signs up for Race Nights on a Sunday but haven't been to one yet so can't comment. They now have Bud on tap however it's expensive, the alternatives are Foster's or Kronenberg. All the pumps are interestingly ice covered to make you want to buy a nice cold pint(you can see the fingermarks where people have touched it to see if it is real!)Watching football is now much better as they have added some extra tv screens in addition to the large screen pull down one they already had so I'll definitely be heading there for Euro 2004.
