The Earl of Derby, Cambridge

I discovered this little gem after a Cambridge stopover 27-28/12/2010. Although a Greene King Pub, the beer was well kept with 3 choices by a landlord who obviously follows the the traditional English pub ideaology to great effect. The staff were polite and entertaining, the bruch was excellent and the home made mulled wine even better. With a VFM juke box and the occasional Live evening gigs this is an ideal place to stay (it also has accomodation) if you wish to get away from the hustle-bustle of the city centre in a relaxing environment. I only wish I wasn't already booked-up for their next gig on 14th Jan! Just turn left at the end of Station Road (instead of right!). I can't wait to return !!!!

The Five Bells, Stanbridge

A bit off the beaten track, but tried this place on Saturday (11th) 6-7pm. Very typical English country pub. Good beer (Fullers Pride & ESB). Didn't have time to check out the food though. Very peaceful & relaxing sitting outside in the sun.

The Gate, Sawbridgeworth

Visited here on Saturday 7th (whilst supporting a band further down the road!). A bit quiet as apparently 'the supporters of the pub darts team were all at an away match', but a good selection of real ales on, and after some helpful advice the one I tried went down a treat. Will definitely return.
