The nicest pub I've visited in Bexleyheath. I have lived here for years and know The standard use to be a dive. What a clever young man this guy is for turning it into a gay bar. More people should know about it. Puts the Golden Lion and the Wrong un to shame. Keep up the good work.

I work for an LGBT Charity in London and have to say this is a very refreshing venue. Light and bright, full of characters and a great place to have a drink. I would have no hesitation recommending The Royal Standard to anyone being gay or straight. The staff were fun and well managed.

The Royal Standard is now a gay pub. About 8 of us went in here on Sunday night for karaoke (we all sing). OMG first observation is the disgusting dirty Ladies toilet, dirty pans, taps broken, plaster missing where mirror was, floors covered in paint blobs. Was told the mens was just as disgusting. 2nd observation was garden area had litter all over it and they empty all the ashtrays into a pile on the floor by the broken table.... really! Gov of this pub is very miserable, didn't attempt to talk to customers (maybe more acting lessons needed!). Karaoke was run by a drag queen who spent more time on her mobile and again never spoke to anyone. Only sells bottled beer at the weekends cos he can buy it cheap and sell it for more! Wouldn't rush back here, not very inviting, he's made no improvements and it looks very uncared for. No thank you.

Yes, this pub (The Royal Standard) has a new manager now, hooray :)

I popped in one sunday lunchtime. They have slightly refurbed it too. With green flowery wall paper on chimney breasts etc. The bar staff were friendly but a little inexperienced.

To short a visit to give a cast-iron review, but heading in the right direction. Would need to pop in again at different times of the day, to be sure the old scum bags have gone for good.

This pub has just been re-opened under new management and been newly refurbished to a very high standard. The new landlady is very friendly as are all the staff. They have completely turned it around with new customers and a much friendlier atmosphere i recommend you try this pub out! Karaoke on Sunday night is also good fun!

Real shame about this pub, a steady down hill slide for the past 10 years. Was a good pub until Pete took over (a character who has little man syndome, and if he was any more ape-like he would start banging his chest, not just grunting). The pub is really unfriendly, with a small gang of druggies hanging around. Hence the glares received from anyone entering who's unknown, ie paranoia that police will raid or indeed shut down the pub again. The garden has been refurbished with new decking area and pub renamed to The Royal Standard. Ordinarily this would be a good idea, but pointless, as no body dares goes there.

very bad place, very clicky avoid it as if you not know you will be ignored by staff as well

Wouldn't normally have stepped inside, but the lack of opening at the Robin Hood forced our hand somewhat. "Real ale" blazoned on the outside, but four handpumps within had one Courage Best clip between them and that was turned round...decent Guinness, though, and friendly barmaid. Obscenely loud music playing for the benefit of the 10 regulars who clearly had been there most of the day (this was 5pm on a Bank Holiday Monday). Strange mix of decor and something of a mixed bag all round, have to say it'll be a one-off visit.

Don't take notice of the previous two reviews - they're fake and are posted by staff. Why would my message pointing that out be taken down otherwise? This place is an absolute dump - soulless and full of people you would do anything to ignore elsewhere. Don't even consider it - you'll wish you hadn't.

i found this pub to have a very friendly atmosphere and could have a laugh with other punters and the staff. took my wife there last night and she was treated like a lady. its an old traditional pub with morals and good values enjoyed myself immensely.

Havent been in there but i went past it last night and it looked like a dump. Knackered paintwork and covered with 'en-ger-lund' flags. Cant say it looks like a place to have a nice pint in.

Funny how many reviews this pub has compared to the rest - STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS - trust me. Its like one of them western bars. The door swings open and every F**ker in sight stops talking/playing/darts/breathing, and stares at you for a good 5 mins, i just go in there to see that then p**s off, wierdest 10 sq meters in b heath that place is.

Not a bad little place to head off to. Pretty good beer and good atmosphere - I've never seen any trouble here.
