user reviews of the Swan Hotel, Leighton Buzzard

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I have been in this pub at intervals over over 4 years.

It has changed (for the worse).

On Burns Day this year the standard Haggis, Neeps and Tatties meal was not available - because they were out of tatties! I realise this may reflect as much on the JDW company as on the Swan.

A recent visit started well when I was asked what I wanted even before I had scanned the hand-pumps (very unusual in a JDW pub). After that however I found myself seated near a large group of middle aged regulars. I think they are always there but I have always been seated far enough away (like most JDW pubs it is fairly large). This group was dominated by a loud harridan who, with great restraint, limited the "f word" to once a sentence.

This pub is clearly poorly managed

Leighton Buzzard these days has some excellent pubs and micro pubs. Why go to the Swan? Are you that desperate to save 10p a pint?

Good range of beer and food service was good if you do have to wait I think its down to being cheap and popular with young family's and older generation you will not find your lager louts however they be up the road in lintern tree.

God's Waiting Room.

The amount of bus passes that must be in here could paper the walls. So THIS is where they spend those winter fuel allowances... pots of tea and reheated treats.

Mind out for Grim Reaper in mens' loo. (Making those poor old buggers haul their swollen, weeping bladders up a flight of stairs. Just too cruel!)

i had same problem the other day waiting ages for a pot of tea, but the food was quite nice and it felt safe in there.

Visited this newly refurbished Pub/Hotel, now owned by Wetherspoons , on Wednesday 24 August 2011.
First impressions were good...area was clean, tidy and with plenty of activity, almost all the tables being occupied by diners.
The staff waiting on tables were very quick, pleasant and welcoming...however I can't say the same about the bar staff (All male on the night).
I was left to wait approximately 8-9 minutes whilst 2 of the bar staff talked between themselves and then to fellow members of the local rugby club who had just arrived.
Another lady had been waiting 5-6 minutes to place an order for food!
So, all in all a marked improvement from the old original 'Drinking establishment' but a note to the new 'management'....Train your staff in the finer arts of Customer service!
We are paying to consume food and drink, not listen to their 'Shift times and dates' or their latest 'Conquests'; We are ultimately paying your wages and would like to be treated promptly with courtesy and respect.

Went there on opening day (as a Spoons) at lunchtime.

Pretty crowded (market day) mainly with seniors.

Usual faults with a JDW - like clips up for beers that were not on (on opning day!) so apart from the usuals there was very little choice.

But it is a revamped pub (like the one not far away in Aylesbury) rather than the usual converted bank so it does have an OK atmosphere.

Too early to judge I suppose but I liked it.

i hear july 19th is the opening day, again not really my scene but i bet it will be busy and will be cheap at least on 5/6 or six things

This has been closed for some time. It has now been purchased by Wetherspoon's, though its unknown if the hotel part will be used. Re-open date unknown.

Called in on a Saturday afternoon and seemed to interrupt the latter stages of a 24-hour 'drink off'. Customers concentrating to stay balanced on their (bar)stools while the barman attempted to focus long enough to pour me a Guinness - aim for the glass in the middle!
Enjoyed my pint, and watched an insane game of pool delevelop. As I ducked cues and caught errant balls, while listening to The Jam at level 11, I realised that after another 8 pints, I could really get into this pub!

Great stop off pub between the two ends of town. As its a hotel the staff are consistantly changed and its difficult to build up a rapport. Excellent fruity's and jukebox don't be alarmed by the locals who frequent the far corner, regailing all and sundry with stories of QPR.

Went back recently to see if things were any better, but we couldn't find anyone to serve us! Next time perhaps we'll help ourselves.

I've got a bit of personal interest in this place as my nan & grandad used to run this during its hayday during the 80's. Unfortunately, things ain't what they used to be and the whole place (including hotel rooms and staff) could do with a bit of livening up. Good place for a quite drink as hardly anyone drinks there anymore. Quality jukebox selection though!

An old coach house on the High Street, and yet another draught beer free venue. One would think that the towns premier hotel would make an effort to provide a decent drinking experience, but even the recent change in management has failed to improve this bland and cheerless place. Only good for escaping the noise and violence of a typical Leighton weekend.
