Typical chain style eatery with a few unadventurous brews. Ale was okay but a bland place full of bland people.

Packed with people eating and drinking on my visit but being a Saturday night it’s not surprising, especially as the Crown doesn’t seem to offer food. The food looked good and was reasonably priced, judged just by looking at the menu.

3 pumps on the bar, I opted for a pint of Caledonian Autumn Red @ 4.4%, always a decent pint and no different on this occasion.

Stayed for around 30 minutes but I was a bit drunk so my mind is hazy though I’m sure this is a decent enough pub.

I’ll probably never visit again.

Ate here the other day, had the burger which was brilliant and exactly the same quality as I remembered, partner had steak which they said was very good. Not sure how they keep the portions and quality so high all the time. Great pub/restaurant

Had a couple of pints here last Saturday evening. The place was busy with good atmosphere and a well designed and appointed lounge and bar area. The Courage Best wasn't as fresh as I think it needs to be but the Tribute was lovely. London Pride was the other beer on offer. This place is more of a good restaurant than an outright pub, but they are one of the few places to have reasonably successfully separated the two, meaning you can have the best of both worlds here. I have eaten here before and would say the food and service were really very good.

Absolutely brilliant food led pub. Cant fault it, good food, beer, staff, decor and the prices are reasonable. Wish it was 10 miles closer

Large traditional pub situated in the centre of the village, the Red Lion has been tastefully modernised throughout, with bare wooden floorboards and furniture, modern artworks on the walls and everything spotlessly clean and tidy.

The front of the pub is given over to a fair sized, light and airy bar with plenty of seating at varying levels. Adnams' Broardside, London Pride and GK IPA was the slightly disapointing ale range. The Broardside was good, but for an eye-watering 3.40 it should be.

To the rear of the pub there is an extensive and, on Saturday lunctime fully patronised resturant. "Today's Specials" are also listed in the front bar.

There is a splendid beer garden behind the pub with lots of covered seating surrounded by hedges and trailing plants and a sizable stretch of lawn for Summer bbqs.

What stopped me truly warming to the pub (apart from the prices) was that it all seemed too professional, with none of the atmosphere of a true village local -like the Crown opposite, for instance.

This place just gets better and better, ate here the other saturday, had to sit in the bar area as restaurant was full all night. The food was amongst the best we've tasted anywhere in the country. The only downside (if there is one) is that its a bit noisy when the bar's full, but we'll put up with that just for the excellent food.

The best pub burger I've had, washed down with a well kept pint of Broadside. Very tidy and civilised. Somewhere you can bring your parents.

Really nice friendly pub! Excellent food and excellent friendly helpful staff!

Eaten here with a group of 38 other people recently, excellent service and not a single complaint, still provides much better value and quality than many "restaurants"

Been here a few times for drinks and food at lunch time. Bit pricey but great food and service. Beer has been good quality and on the one occassion we had a 'bad' pint it was sorted immediately without question. Clean and tidy with very nice decor. Would definately recommend it.

Best pub locally, the food is amazing and the staff are always friendly and helpful. There is such a great atmosphere, you just want to keep coming back.

LOVE this pub!
Great food, can be expensive and must book in evening but well worth going.

I called in here late afternoon recently for a quick pint and was very impressed. The staff couldn't have been more attentive, the pub was clean and there was a nice attention to detail; fresh flowers on the table, toilets clean, and beer garden neat and tidy.
I believe this pub is famous locally for its food, and judging by the amount of bookings I heard being phoned in on a wednesday afternoon they must be doing something right.
Bearing in mind I visited on a mid week afternoon I can't comment on what a Saturday night is like but I will certainly come back at a later date to try out the food.

Not sure what to make of this pub, was packed mid-week. I can only believe it gets so busy because its a Gastro Pub. Fairly pricey and very hard to get a seat.
aleman - 6 Mar 2009 16:33
Great atmosphere now, but a bit noisy when full. Food is excellent, and you will need to book for a seat in the restaurant, luckily full meals are served in the bar area. The only down side is that the draught beer quality seems to have suffered and they are not in as good condition as previously.
Staff very attentive, well worth a visit.

Quickly becoming one of our favourite pubs. Have always liked the Red Lion, but since the refurb it is fantastic. Love the fresh / modern design, and the ladies toilet wall paper (sad I know)! The food is great and varied, staff friendly. Only negative is that it can take a while at the bar as the staff are so concerned with good service, "do you want ice", "would you like lemon/lime" that they are a little slow. But hey, at least they care! Will continue to recommend to friends. Oh, one last little thing, the owner could smile a bit more.

Returned here after an absece of 9 months. It looks really good after the refurbishment and is under new management. The menu has changed significantly with more emphasis on plain wholesome cooking. I had a delicious lamb steak, my wife had calves liver, and our friends had sausage and mash and swordfish. All was pleasantly served without too much of a wait.
Two of us had puddings and the whole meal altogether was less than 80 before the tip.
The pub and restaurant were packed on Friday night a sure sign of a succesful hostelry.
On the whole a verygood experience and happy to return in the future.

Service is improving after some teething problems.
Directors replaced with Marsdons Pedigree. Patio and Gardens really looking good for the summer!
gerwurtz - 10 May 2008 06:49
4.5.2008 Changed for the better since I last drank here. I must have looked like David McCullum from 'The Invisible Man' series, as the bar staff needed glasses themselves & only the boss realised I wanted a drink. Food looked good & will try this & report back
hellodave - 4 May 2008 18:14
I was expecting more from the make-over although it has tidied the place up although there seems to be a lot of grey on display. Prices were good but food although basic was not good two of our mains had to be sent back, and the waitress definately needs more training, but bar staff were friendly and I'd go back for that if nothing else

Went there for lunch on Saturday. Decent portions of reasonable food though hardly cutting edge. Dessert menu looks promising as does the wine list but didn't get a chance to sample either. I really like the makeover - exactly what was needed. Friendly staff too. I'll be visiting again.

Prices were resonable but food service & food could be improved, went there over Easter to try it out, the staff were a bit like buses didnt see one for ages then 3 would come along together, limited menu and the chef must have been having a bad day as the food was undercooked and uninteresting will give it another go in a few months when they've had chance to sort out teething problems
hermiek - 25 Mar 2008 21:19
Another good boozer bites the dust. going to be all resturant now alledgedly.

Red Lion closed now for refit and change of leaseholder. Opening early March 2008
gerwurtz - 9 Feb 2008 05:45
4 of us enjoyed a good quality meal here last week, not the cheapest around but good value nontheless. Grapevine rekons it will be owned by Bluebeckers in the new year!!
mc3 - 8 Nov 2007 18:46
Just nipped over ystdy from the Crown to see what their pm closing time was (15:00). I can't leave a rating but can inform that the beer choice was Courage, GK Ipa &, I think, London Pride. That's right - if only they offered another beer they could complete the line-up with Ordinary on as well!
trainman - 7 Nov 2007 12:33
This is a well maintined very professionally run establishment. There is ample car parking and a very large garden. The restaurant which is in a separate area leading off the main bar is very well furnished and decorated. What we liked was the linen tablecloths and napkins - unusual I would have thought?. I thoroughly enjoyed Beef Stroganoff and Shank of Lamb recently, and the portions are good but not overbearing. Overall the service was excellent As far a cost, I would it is middle of the road - 2 main courses and drinks was less than 35.00.
Excellent freshly cooked food and good value for money in my book

A true Local, Beer very good, food excellent, staff very pleasent and lovely garden. Well worth a visit
TheRealGuvnor - 15 Jul 2007 12:16
Friendly hostelry with efficient staff. The food is excellent and since the recent changes to the Cricketers, this is the only local with a separate restaurant with non-fast food fare... albeit yes, you pay the extra. Ex Bunny Girl Landlady - weh hey!Don't forget to have a look-see at the patio area.
gerwurtz - 30 Aug 2006 10:38
The food is a bit expensive but always a nice place to go for a drink
NormanSpoonBender - 17 Aug 2006 13:04
Overpriced. Understaffed. Bad value for money. Landlord is a misery too.
anonymous - 16 Jul 2006 15:26
Very expensive to eat and drink here, very spacious pub with a friendly efficient waitress, nice garden
BoozyBoy - 11 Jul 2006 16:33
Quick service, nice dining area, but poor value for the prices they charge and the food was not as special as we were led to believe. We had 2 courses, daughter had one of the cheap dishes. Had we all(3 of us) had 3 courses, then I think the evening would have cost us about a 100. Cheap good pub grub!!, well not here.
value42 - 29 Oct 2005 10:25
characterless hostelry, despite its long history in the village. Great but expensive food, a good but expensive pint of London Pride, together with a quaffable Greene King IPA. Best in the summer when you can sit outside.
Harry J - 12 Nov 2004 00:17
friendly service, ok food but small portions for the money
chris - 29 Oct 2004 14:33
Very nice pub that serves excellent food and desserts.

Superb, secluded gardens with enough tables to cope with even a busy Sunday lunchtime.
Typical local pub interior with friendly bar staff.
