user reviews of Yates's, High Wycombe

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Unprofessional , very rude and aggressive bouncers , we had a work party over there and a bald fat bouncer refused to let us back in after we went out to put a sick friend in a taxi .
Yates is a big name but its misfortunate that its being run by thugs .

Disgusting place.. Full of plastic gangsters or pissed up students.. "Women" with attitudes as foul as their perfume.. Expensive.. Poor service.. A red cross should be daubed on the door..
TheShaolinPunk - 4 Nov 2011 00:50
look i know these huge pub companies loose the feel of a traditional pub, but my god its cheap. 2 burgers and two pints of lager under 13.....in times of recession you cant argue with that.
neil10 - 28 Sep 2011 19:23
Interesting review from Zoe30. Only reviewed one place and raves about how amazing it is to book your party with Yates'. A little PR stunt me thinks.....
mikeyr1234 - 17 Jul 2011 18:56
i booked a party with yates's for the evening of the 25th june over there facebook site. on arrivel at the bar all tables were set up and decorated really well. both manager & deputy were very attentive & the staff were very helpfull and happy through out the evening. music was good, up to date and requests were taken. i have been to yates's befor but never booked a party with them. after this visit i will deffenetly consider booking with them again! would recommend 110%!!!

Awful awful awful! Full of scuzzers who are always up for a fight and jumped up idiots high on whatever drugs they have just taken in the toilets. Horrible atmosphere it feels like its just waiting to kick off all the time, which in the end, it always does! AVOID!!!!!!
mikeyr1234 - 19 Jan 2011 21:57
I've been here a few times now both in the evening and at lunch, I've always found the staff friendly, the food i've had has always been good and ive never had to wait long for it to come. In the evenings i have a great night out with my mates and never go anywhere but there it has a great atmosphere and the music is always good (great DJ). A great place to have a good night out!

the food here is rank, but they do wine by the bottle for about 9. just drink don't eat.

What a dive!!, actually looks quite smart and inviting from the outside and in a good location however interior is a complete different story!. Floors are sticky, carpets filthy, furniture falling apart and the place smells very badly of stale beer.
Identical round of drinks cost more than twice as much as wetherspoons or Lloyds and surroundings not even in the same league!!
Generally in desperate need of a refurb and would not recommend to anyone!!
rooneytheking - 28 Feb 2010 09:58
What can i say, i wish i had walked past yesterday. Called in for a pint, Bombadier, which was well kept and went down in seconds. Lad who served me excellent. Lulled into a false sense of security i ordered a burger and another pint. Sat down and stuck to chair, table and floor simultaneously. Said burger arrived in a still defrosting bap and resembled s**t stuck to a boot. Then noticed the slashed furniture and turned on my heel to the Belle Vue.
Shame its been allowed to run down as ideal location.
stevienicks - 21 Jan 2010 15:50
well well well im glad to here the pub is due to get another refurb and the good news is the existing manager who is a total idiot is not getting to stay. the company have realised that he has run a perfectly good pub into the ground
the fact that he ever got to take the pub over in the first place was a bloody miracle
p.s . arsenal fans are scum
maryj - 6 Jan 2010 19:50
well... the litten tree is a pub that the majority of people in wycombe avoid.
the main positive element is a large outside seating area, however every single wooden table is broken and the outside heating lamps do not work either.
in the past few months they have caught up with the rest of the world and finally got super cold lagers.
the service is terrible - extremely slow, untrained bar staff. i have never seen worse service in any bar.
the floor is sticky.
the data projector for the main large screen needs replacing as the image is faded.
this pub is suitable for people that like to play on the punch bag game they have inside.
wycombe1 - 14 Jun 2009 20:52
good on tuesday nights, 1.50 pints and some drinks, gets in a good crowd of people that almost drowns the more larey loyal litten tree goers, so makes for a gd night.
woul'd recommend it on a weekend tho.
Did well on new years last year tho.. we did a bit of a crawl and i wasn't disapointed in their efforts or the crowd.
cake - 13 Dec 2008 16:01
Bad service terrible food overall a really bad experience
maryj - 19 Feb 2008 23:00
a genuinely vile place.. its just about passable if you wish to watch sports, but anything other than that forget it.. however, if you have the music taste or the intellect of a 10 year old this might just be your kind of place.
SuperSharpShooter - 11 Aug 2007 13:19
I like going to the tree every tues bar 1.50 however i will not be returning . last tues not only did i wait 20 mins to be served due to the fact that it seemed all the regular staff had the night off and were getting drunk in the pub but my mate was asked to leave because the doorman said he was to drunk- to be fair he was but what was unfair was that the manager was also very drunk hanging out at the front door with 2 bottles of wkd in his hands arguing and shouting with one of his staff!!
this really does take the biscuit- ah well me and my mates will b off to pure every tues-
anonymous - 31 May 2007 11:54
Gone from nice bar that caters for all to trashy hole that caters for only one kind of person! The kind of people they employ! The new manager looks a mess (or I presume thats who it) so no wonder thats why. You will only manage some where as good as you would like to go out yourself.
anonymous - 22 May 2007 17:04
What has happened to this venue, it has gone really down hill in the last few months. Not sure why but any pride the manager took has clearly gone! maybe the old manager has gone!
Foods bad, service is bad, staff are rude, door staff are now bad, never seen such a dramatic change in venue, used to love it there, now I feel unsafe and ripped off.

Oh and you would never guess the last post was written by ROYS KAROKE. Maybe the litten tree didn't want two divs who love themselves - get a grip Karaoke is karaoke no matter who does it.
anonymous - 22 May 2007 16:26
not been in here for a while they used to have a karaoke on thursday nights with ROYS KARAOKE and then MR GOO used to take over was brilliant what happened get them back the place is crap thursdays now we go to butlers good music and cheap drinks litten tree shuts at 11.30 whats going on get the karaoke boys back you must be losing a fortune
anonymous - 5 Sep 2006 00:05
This place does need a bit of a face lift. Floors are filthy and the tables are not cleaned up quick enough. That said bar is the largest in wycombe and the service is polite and friendly. A bigger dancefloor would be ideal.
JJNooks - 31 Jul 2006 12:27
Goo place to go if your in a crowd out on it, fri if i remember used to b buy 1 get one free. Messy. Not too expensive, chavy but doesnt matter when your havin a laugh.

anonymous - 29 Jul 2006 17:30

anonymous - 3 Jul 2006 20:58
I HAVE WATCHED BOTH ENGLAND GAMES HERE AND THE ATMOSPHERE
AND STAFF HAVE BEEN GREAT.THANK-YOU
anonymous - 16 Jun 2006 16:48
Went down for Student nite on 09/05/06, what can i say, QUALITY ! Even the cheaper bar round the corner was struggling to pull people in and they had cheaper drinks & free entry ! The staff are hard working but friendly as are the door team. The Dj was fantastic and had the crowd going nuts ! Shame he's not there on Friday & Saturdays anymore cos the atmosphere is totallty different without him.Tuesday, only place to be
topbanana - 11 May 2006 13:48
Typically crappy staff, cant believe its refurbished looks like the same massive sticky pit it was before. Inpersonal but largers were good, outside seatting are great on nice days
jossey - 3 Jan 2006 16:19

maryj - 1 Jan 2006 17:32

trusspubmonkey - 25 Nov 2005 19:32
This is one of the worst 'pubs' in wycombe, it's impersonal, the staff are miserable the door staff should be fired and the beer is rubbish. Not recommended.
anonymous - 24 Nov 2005 21:38

maryj - 11 Sep 2005 23:32
Best bar in Wycombe by far!

Tuesday nights Bar 1.50, top stuff. Dj is shite though.

Doorstaff ok, bar staff are friendly. Good people in there and you can usually relax and just have a good time!

8/10
mikeyr1234 - 7 Sep 2005 20:37
Just WHAT sort of pub demands the wearing of shoes to get in? Full of men wearing shirts longer than their girlfriends' skirts. The only time I went in I met Ant and Dec at the bar, however, which was odd to say the least.
ron_devous - 14 May 2005 16:50
Well it did re-open - and what a difference! Basically just shinier. And now it's even noisier than before, as the carpet's all gone. Er, didn't think it could get worse, but guess what?
gilesd - 15 Nov 2004 16:42
the Litten Tree is due to reopen nov 3rd, after flood damage in early august demanded a complete refurb. It promises to be a completely different venue, with a new style and menu, that still delivers the quality of service and atmosphere it always has done.
anon - 24 Oct 2004 23:02
What can be said about the Littern Tree? Not alot really? Well, clubwise it fails miserably on its face.. it trys to draw that type of crowd and all it can get is those turned away from Wycombes more exclusive venues. If one chooses to adventure in during the day time, they will be greated nicely with good food and 'reasonably' priced drinks. I think atleast one night a week is Bar150, which is where draught beers are charged at 1.50. All on All... 4 on 10.
George Adams - 3 Jul 2004 02:32
It's a great place to go If you're looking for a good pub and good music(not easy to find these days!). Staff and doormen are polit and helpfull.
Andrew - 25 Jun 2004 18:03
Bearable outside during the day in good weather. Evening time? It's a cross between Reservoir Dogs and an Ibiza night club.
Mac. - 8 Jun 2004 17:20
A really good pub if you're out for a good time...not quite sure when everyone else has been there. The doormen are really friendly and make you feel safe (unlike in a nearby pub that could be mentioned). The barstaff are really friendly if you're polite to them, and the music is great.
anonymous - 2 Jun 2004 17:52
The clientele it attracts really leave something to be desired.
The manager doesn't care as he only wants to make 's.
Inadequately trained bar staff do try hard but I cant really slate them as they arent to blame for the shiteness of this place.
Wycombe might not be the centre of the universe but it doesn't deserve this kind of rubbish!
Unless you like 16 year old girls and bad attitudes, stay away.
C - 11 Apr 2004 10:16
fully of young girls who obviously the doorman want to bed. atmosphere fullof attitude.managers just out to make money money money. music crap. staff need to get lives always really miserable and only bothered about serving friends and chatting to people they know. probably one of the worst nights out as u are always looking over ur shoulder. staff could bea bit more welcoming. anyway whats with charging ona friday?? you willnever ever be a night club.keep wishing.sic and a few disco lights don't make you a club!
paul - 28 Mar 2004 16:00
Totally crap, full of violent Wycombe knob heads. That's just the bouncers. The inhabitants range from 18-20 and any one not a regular will stand out like a sore thumb if they're not wearing Ben Sherman shirts or Reebok classics.
anonymous - 24 Mar 2004 02:26
This is a great venue, especially at the weekend. The DJ's on Friday and Saturday nights are definately worth checking out. Drinks are cheap on a friday and it's a great night out. The drinks are also cheap on a tuesday and students get an extra 15% off. They recently launched a new menu, which is imaginitive and great value, the Mighty Mixed Grill is definately woth sampling. The staff are great fun as are the managers. One downside to the place is it could do with a refurb, but I hear there is one coming.

ross - 23 Mar 2004 23:57
great atmosphere especiallyat the weekebds. friendly helpful staff
ollybird - 23 Mar 2004 23:18
a typical high wycombe pub really full of people on a friday and saturday and deserted all week prior stll worth a peek due to the cheap prices
Geoff - 25 Feb 2004 10:07
Maybe I was a little harsh - I went there last night, and paid 1.50 for a pint of Carlsberg Export! Marvellous. And the music wasn't bad, actually - though at 30, I'm clearly far too old to frequent the place!
gilesd - 4 Feb 2004 11:20
Apart from the aforementioned cheapness on a Tues/Fri... a typical story to expect from the "bouncers" (one of which is a 50 year old woman):

I went into High Wycombe to watch an England game recently and was horrified to be turned away as I was wearing my England shirt!!! The "no football shirt" rule is a ridiculous one, especially if they're showing the match! This was a Wednesday night too, so not even part of their "shoes and collars" traditon (although pretty sure this doesn't exist anymore as I've seen many entering wearing trainers etc.)
noeth - 24 Jan 2004 15:14
Well what do you expect by the name? Trying to think of something positive to say... nope, can't think of anything. You can't get the one real ale they stock if it runs out, 'cos no-one's qualified to change a barrel, you can't wear trainers, shorts, or non-collared tops (even if it is 80F outside). And the bogs are a half-mile trek upstairs. Basically unsuitable if you're of an adult age.
gilesd - 23 Jan 2004 14:33
friendly happy bar staff and assistabt and deputy managers. general manager though is lazy and very rude.
anonymous - 5 Jan 2004 00:23
Student night on a Tuesday and Friday where all drinks are 1.50 and if you are a student you get an extra 15% off! Can't go unnoticed!
