user reviews of the Wilton Arms, Fulham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

It seems a shame to report that previous reviews of this establishment are only now of historical interest.
Owing to “unfortunate” circumstances this pub was closed in early March 2013, losing its licences. It was finally vacated in early June and securely boarded up with metal grilles. Rumours are that it will continue as an empty non trading edifice until January 2014. Then it may be re-opened as a pub if new licences are granted or it may be re-developed as flats. Anyone’s guess, I hope it’s the first option but who knows. Watch this space

Used to be a nice boozer, but had to wait ages for a pint on a recent Monday night, only about 6 people. Over 3 for a manky pint of John Smiths, I'll remember how it used to be when Roy ran it about 10 yrs ago.

The Wilton is a friendly pub without too much ego!

Karaoke nights are a good laugh and apart no one taking it too seriously there are some fab singers!

There is a Halloween Fancy Dress Karaoke Disco on last saturday in October and if your bored and fancy a laugh singalong and dance why not go.....

I was an out of town visitor from Watford. The pub had a very good kareoke that night, and the owner Ravette is aspiring to look and sound like George Michael,(Has he had the plastic surgery yet?)The atmosphere, was great the staff very friendly and the drink good especially the water could do with more Champagne. The Wilton arms is a family pub but also caters for the young, old tourists and the locals. It is worth a visit. A.

In the mid 90's I used to share a house with a load of people two doors down from this pub and so we ended up there quite regularly

Despite being initially a bit daunting we found the landlords and regulars totally friendly

Indeed in the summer they used to let us take our round back to the house as our garden was much nicer than the fairly horrid patio.

The best thing that ever happened to me in the Wilton was one Saturday afternoon when somehow we'd locked ourselves out of the house. We retired to the Wilton to consider the matter.

Whilst discussing it in the back bar one of the regulars (with whom we were acquainted) chipped in to help - apparently in a previous life he'd been a burglar and he offered to get us back in

Needless to say we jumped at the opportunity and were suitably gobsmacked when he jiiged open the kitchen window in under ten seconds without any sign of forcible entry - a lesson for us all

Anyway - the Wilton (which doesn't seem to have changed much) is an old style Fulham local whcih might take a bit of effort but is well worth it

The Wilton Arms is one of the last of its kind in Fulham with original decor, friendly locals, reasonably priced drinks and lively bar staff always keen to join in on the festivities.

Its a great pub where i have enjoyed many nights with family and friends in a fun atmosphere where everyone is up for a good time. Both young and old make up the great bunch that make the wilton arms a good night out - especially at kareoke on the weekends where George Michael gets a run for his money.

The wilton in my eyes is definately improved dramatically over the last six months and is worth checking out.

All those people that have made nasty comments about the pub should pop back and then eat their words!! The pub is now a clean fun and friendly place to be in (and believe me I never thought I would ever be saying stuff like that!!) The toilets are clean and smell nice............the staff are brilliant.........entertainment excellent..........The new owner couldn't be any different to the last one. Everyone is made welcome and what I like is when the older residents of Fulham go in, their drink is taken over to the table for them (usually on the house) they don't even have to ask, that to me is a lovely gesture.
More and more people are holding birthdays, funerals ,communions and weddings there (food thrown in if needed). There might still be a few "hags" but hey it takes allsorts The patio area has just had a lovely makeover and the pub will be refurbished soon. Please come down and make your own minds up ........ you will be sure of a good old London welcome!!

First I must start by saying that I actually work in The Wilton Arms, so any comments I make must be taken with any bias you see fit to place upon me. I, however feel I shall give an honest review of this pub with my experience of sitting both behind and in front of the bar...

I arrived at the pub fairly recently, by means of previously working with the landlord who took over in 2005...

I was an actor working in Oxford and the oportunity to move to London and have a comfortable income coming in for when I wasn't on acting locations seemed an opportunity too good to refuse.

The pub is a typical local London pub, mixed social classes and races. Situated within Fulham this supports my statement, you have everyone from the rich and ahem, borderline famous; to the number who scrimp and save just for a few pints at their local (me falling into the latter category!)

There is a regualr pool team and darts team as well as a host of live music that perform throughout the week. The capacity can fluctuate from a few customers having a quiet drink to a mass karaoke filled party depending on when the atmsophere is in the air. This may or may not appeal to everyone's tastes but as I always say "A night is what you make it..."

The barstaff are friendly and approachable with a mixture of young part-time workers, to the old veterans who have been involved with this pub for decades. I cannot speak for myself in this but from the reaction of my collegues, this is the true impression I get.

The prices I feel are cheap for London, however, I have been informed that there are cheaper places to go, in this argument I feel that commercial chain pubs are slowly drowning the lypical local and in it's efforts have made the 'local' somewhat a rarity. But what the chain pubs cannot supply is the feel of a family. The notion of being acknowledged and welcomed in a public house as if it was your private house (see what I did there!)

The general take I get off the pub is don't walk into the place with any stand-offish attitude as the locals always ready to take the mickey. I'm dumbfounded at the amount of times a simple comment has been re-arranged into a mock of the Welsh! (I'm Weslh by the way) all is taken in good humour and no offence is intended, indeed, I give as good as I get.

The keywords of this pub I would say are Good Laugh, Party Attitude, Local, Family, Londoner and Re-building (this last word is because the landlord I came down with has done a runner and left us high and dry, and so it is a re-building process)

Signed - An over-worked Barman

What can I say... Never been in the pub before and went to meet friends on a Friday night.... There was a live blues band that brought followers who were friendly along with the locals.... The band, might I add and one of the customers who got up and sang brought the house down... Everybody was foot tapping all night while they were enjoying their evening... This brought me to ask the owners, two guys about the pub and they confirmed they have just taken it over and are staging live music of different kinds on a Friday and Saturday evening, going to refurbish the premises, keep the ambience of a great local London pub with a bit of style... Regulars and new custom are very welcome; they are going to cater for all... Above all they are listening to what people want.... I got new comers drink for free and my request of "could you call me a cab" at the end of the evening was met with, no worries, escorted me to the cab to ensure that the cab driver was known. What more could a lady travelling alone to a pub and area that had never visited before I will be going back very soon with my work colleagues So watch this space..

This place always stinks of incontinent old hags andmisplaced testosterone. God help you if you try to be friendly to any of the locals - you could end up surrounded by hoodie wearing louts who don't understand 'friendly' and seem to think that your "chattin' up me bird","chatting up me you effing batty boy", or worse. 0/10 for making no effort.
mariusmaxtible - 29 Nov 2005 18:46
A big fat 0/10 for this place. It seems to attract the worst kind of trash as customers and sells the crappiest beer imaginable. You take your life in your hands just walking to the bar.

I cant believe that this pub has had some decent reviews. It is a shite hole. Its dirty, the toilets stink, the patio is more like a bomb site & stinks like a cess pit. The bar staff are surley. Some of the customers are ok but the pub itself should be forceably closed down for the sake of the good folk of Fulham. A 0 rating.
smokie - 21 Jul 2005 12:50
good to see this place dont change. back bar is much better.but you cant call the 6 grey slabs out the back a patio.
leather - 25 Mar 2005 15:49
Untroubled by the gentrification and winebarification that has taken so many Fulham pubs, the Wilton is a timewarped two-bar place; the front more so than the back. The back bar, with its blue walls, sporting pictures and pool table, has a bit more life to it and can even be opened to a small patio when the weather permits.

Go the Wilton - if you want fancy frills then this is not for you! Real life London pub - my choice for sure.
Good that there are pubs left like this, despite the trendy brigade
