user reviews of the Sun, Stafford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Made a return visit to the Sun yesterday. Everard's Tiger & Titanic Captain Smith's, White Star, Anchor & Steerage were supplemented by their Plum Porter, Dark Star The Original, Festival & American Brown Ale, Potbelly Lager Brau & Castle Rock Screech Owl. There was no real cider that I could see. Although reading my last review, they may not have been obvious. Still a decent option when in Stafford though.

One of the better pubs in Stafford - always had a decent pint in here (Iceberg on this occasion). They do all the titanic brews.

Titanic pub almost in the centre of Stafford. But it does have its own car park to the rear. The interior feels similar to other Titanic pubs I've been to in the Stoke area. Lifeboat, Plum Porter, Steerage, Anchor, Iceberg, Capt Smiths & White Star were their ales. They also had Batemans XB & Silver Hare & Everards Tiger. Westons ciders were Family Reserve, Old Rosie & Cider Twist Raspberry. They are situated high up at one end of the bar and are not immediately obvious. Busier than other Stafford pubs I tried, this was probably the best one too.

Comfortable pub with the full range of Titanic Beers and reasonable food. Slightly out of the centre of Stafford and worth finding.

Well, having promised a fuller review 4 years ago, I thought it was about time I got around to it ! This is a bit of a rambling place with all sorts of nooks and crannies. The bar is immediately on the right when you go in was a small amount of seating in the area round it. There is a snug up to the left, and downstairs to the left is another room. This tends to be used by diners, but it isn’t exclusively so. There is also another (quieter) room behind the bar to the right – but it has taken until recently for me to find it !

There is all sorts of stuff arranged around the walls, most of it related to either the Titanic or Stafford. There is even one wall which has been wallpapered with an old paper – looks convincing until you realise Brighton is next to Manchester !

There are five handpumps at the front of the bar. These all sell similar Titanic light-coloured beers (which I tend to ignore). There are 5 or 6 other pumps now the left of the bar. These usually include one Titanic dark beer (e.g. Plum Porter, Vanilla Stout), and soem guest ales from a variety of sources. This is an Everard’s “project William” pub, so their Tiger is always available. There are also some “craft keg” beers advertised, but I’ve not tried those. Beware – prices are not cheap.

Food is available both lunchtimes and evenings. The range is fairly interesting, but prices are expensive.

Almost forgot – they hold beer festivals twice a year which take place in a marquee in a yard out back which otherwise serves as a smokers haunt.

7/10 – probably the best pub in town, but not that outstanding.

Twelve handpumps dispense a great choice of Titanic beers, and changing guest beers. At least one cider is available. Food is served throughout the day, and is good pub grub. Staff are usually knowledgable and always friendly. But the best bit of all is the atmosphere . A proper pub, no music, pool tables or lager louts.

Excellent Real Ale Oasis - always 4-5 Titanic Ales, plus 4-5 guests in excellent condition. Good fast service, starting to get really busy now . Have eaten there twice, and very impressed both times. Recommended.

Now owned and run by Titanic Brewery

Another good job by Titanic. They just seem to be able to get it right with regards to refurbing pubs and knocking out decent ale. A few nice pints of Iceberg quaffed on a sunny day.

Great selection of real ales and cider. Well worth a visit, even if you have to stagger back to the Travelodge. We went at the weekend and it does smell a bit foody rather than beery. Nice all the same.

In here last Saturday and can only add my praise for this super boozer
10 hand pulls with 6 for Titanic and 4 for guests.

Lovely little boozer. Helpful friendly staff, excellent quality beers and ciders at reasonable prices. 9 or 10 hand pumps on (I think) and 3 proper ciders. And........ only 5 minutes stagger to the Travelodge.

this is a Titanic house, with 5 of their ales always on plus another 5 guests.

Pretty good place - I always go there when I get fed up with the service at Wetherspoons ! Will post a proper review later

What a great pub, a good range of Titanic split and interesting range of guest beers from other breweries near & far. Titanic Burger is also a must if you fancy a bite
