Not a Tesco Express! That's down the High Street. Went in on Sunday and had an excellent meal. Not suprising though since it's a restaraunt and, only at a real stretch you may be able to call it a bar.

Have now become a regular diner at La Familiar. The food is always lovely and of the highest quality The table staff are attentive, polite and helpful. All in all a lovely place in which to enjoy a really great night out.

I heard that La familiar had had a change of ownership so decided to give it another try and was very pleased I did. Maria and her husband were charming and fantastic hosts. The bar/restaurant area is beautifully decorated and presented as are the toilets and wash rooms. Our food was lovely, fresh and cooked to our liking and arrived quickly and with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who all joined in with the evenings entertainment which made our visit a very enjoyable one. A very well done to the new owners for turning this place around so well and we will certainly see you again soon

Lovely restaurant...possibly bar...not a pub though

It has been a while since I last had a chance to visit La Familia, but last saturday night I had dinner there with my wife and two other guests, the service was outstanding and the food was great, I had the Dover Sole for main and the mussels in cream and onion sauce for starters. I totally agree with the last comments this is not a pub, but a well stablished, high class rerstaurant that was very much needed here in Hampton Hill, for some of us a bit of class is necessary and there was nothing in Hampton that provided high quality food, with great service and wonderful atmosphere. The place was super busy last saturday, with not a sigle table available, I am glad I had made a reservation, surely they are doing something right.

This isn;t realy a 'beer in the evening' pub. We booked it for a family celebration on a Saturday lunchtime and the Staff prepared a menu for us and catered splendildly for us. Everybody had a reasonable choice and there was stuff for the little children too.

The wines were chosen by the house and were good and reasonable. The Cava for a toast after sweet was as good as any champagne I have tasted at less than a third of the cost!

We were unhurried and had a lovely time.

It may have changed its name - but is this owned by the same people? as nothing has really changed here - the staff are not very accommodating. Can't comment too much on the food as only been back in recently for lunch which was ok. But bad service puts me off going back. (I seem to try this place every 6 months or so but never seems to be any improvement).
Also if you ask to have ketchup/mayo left on your table for when you need the answer is a flat NO!! what's that about.
party32 - 25 Jan 2010 12:38
Not a big fan of how it is now. May suit others so I do not wish to criticize it to much but I used to pop in for a drink occasionally but now there general attitude seems to be a little snobbish. It seems very clinical and it does not make me feel very comfortable. Food used to be very good! Have not ate there in a while though.

Jackb, I understand and respect your views but we will have to agree to dissagree on this one. My comments are not intended to be malicious and I only ask that restaurants do better and provide the service they should. Could I suggest you try the m2 restaurant across the road. It does not have the atmosphere of Joes but the food is very good.

I am more of a restaurant critic, which is why I think La Familia should not be on this website, they are no longer a Pub, but they are a great restaurant which is why a truly defend their establishment. The Roebuck in Teddington is a good Pub for a quiet drink and the staff is friendly and polite.
jackb - 17 Oct 2009 13:09
Do you ever go anywhere other than La Familia, Jack? We'd be interested in your views on other pubs ;-)

In regards to the comments made by the Highstreetdrinker I believe these to be completely inaccurate. I have been dining at La Familia now for several months and I have never had anything bad to say about their food. In fact I recently invited some friends for a dinner there and one of the guests suffers from all sorts of food allergies, La Familia was able to prepare a starter and a main course to my friends taste without certain ingredients as all their food in prepared inhouse, she was delighted to have such wonderful meal catered just for her. So to all great food lover ( with or without food tolerance ) ignore these malitious comments and Do enjoy great food and atmosphere at La Familia.

The last comment stated 'how Joe's ended up'. Remember that this still is Joe's but with a new name. My main complaint is that if a restaurant promotes itself as a mediterean family restaurant.....please offer family home cooked mediterean food and not mass produced packet grub that can be bought cheaply at Bookers. Its simple really....employ a chef!
highstreetdrinker - 16 Sep 2009 13:40
I dined here on the 25th Aug and actually thought the food was very good. The staff were very attentive and friendly and it's streets ahead of how the dreadfull Joe's ended up, which was a decent place many years back believe it or not!

Let's be honest Hampton Hill needs all the help it can get in the current climate, it's getting worse each time I visit.

Good luck to them.

Tried hard with the decor and it looks very nice but the food is still the same and badly lacking in any attention to detail. With my party we had 9 tapas dishes, seven were pre cooked, bought in or from a packet. Even a simple dish like a Spanish tortilla was shop bought and micro waved to death. If they are going to sell themselves as a mediterean family restaurant then please have some home cooked food cooked by a chef and not shop bought boil in the bag rubbish
highstreetdrinker - 26 Aug 2009 14:40
The cocktails in this place are very nice and so is the barman, very charming!!! We had a girls party at this place and the food was excellent and so was the service. We asked for tapas and they were very good. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great as it was very busy with customers of various ages. Great place to have dinner and a drink. Highly recommended to all the ladies out there. They even let us have a dance... lets rumba!!!!
milady2009 - 18 Aug 2009 23:17
I have to agree with the last statement, I was recently invited to dinner at La Familia and we had the most enjoyable evening. We had tapas for starters and I personally loved the seabass. The place was busy enough on a weds night. We did not try the cocktails but enjoyed a great bottle of rioja at a very reasonable price. The waitressses were very curtious and professional. I live locally and I am sure to recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family. It should be said that this is a restaurant and Not a pub!!! Joe's has gone and La Familia has certainly made an impression.
jackb - 16 Aug 2009 23:04
I ate at Joe's a few years back and was not impressed with the food, I can now say that it has all changed, La Familia as it is now called has a great menu offering fresh fish, I had the dover sole and it was delicious, my husband had a steak and it looked and tasted great. The place was buzzing with customers and it seems their new tapas menu is going down very well. We needed a place like this Hampton Hill, I highly recommend it. The staff were great... ps: and so are the cocktails... try the Mojito... cheers!!!!
patriciac - 16 Aug 2009 22:47
I dont think a lick of paint and a name change will help but am willing to try it out and hope to have my mind changed . .
Man_on_ground - 7 Aug 2009 22:02
Good friends ate here on Saturday night and said it was fabulous and they are a discening couple. They had tapaps at the bar and they could order in dribs and drabs. Absolutely raved about the place.
rapunzel1 - 2 Aug 2009 17:22
Passed Joe's the other night as it has had a make-over. I have to say it looks really nice, and has a new name "La Familia". Can't comment further as I haven't been in yet, but certainly looks much better than before from the outside in.
astralstar - 21 Jul 2009 14:51
Regularly use this as a place to eat during lunch hour, as we work locally.
It has gone down hill. Three occassions we have recently visited Joe's for lunch and each time the food has been awful or we have not received what we had ordered. All we received from the staff was an apology! NOT a way to run a restaurant.

tanyadracott - 13 May 2009 12:44
Discovered that this used to be called the Crown and Anchor. Theres a photo of it in the nearby Rising Sun circa 1902. No idea when it changed to this disaster.
nickthefish - 8 Apr 2009 08:41
This used to be a blinding place to eat, the service used to be excellent. I went there at the weekend and the service was crap! It took ages to get a drink and took the dopy waitress 20 mins to take our order. I would never reccomend this dive to anyone.......STAY AWAY.......BAD PLACE TO EAT.
micketyren - 5 Apr 2009 09:04
Decent enough boozer, but as one punter put it its more a restaurant than anything else. Family run place, the service is always good. The chef and his brother have a very bad gambling addiction - theyre always in the bookies down the road blowing their hard-earned bollocks... So long as they dont put the prices up to compensate ill stay loyal!
whoagigi - 4 Oct 2008 14:29
Again this is a restaurant.....Is this a restaurant guide ?
nickthefish - 10 Jun 2008 13:53
I agree with some of the comments about Joe's. It had become a place for the "Louts" of Hampton to keep coming in and out of all night while people were trying to have a meal. All that has hopefully changed. It has been re furbed and the menu has improved. Service is efficient and friendly and on my last two visits quite recently.............no sign of the "Hoodies". I do hope it stays this way, its a great improvement and I think good value for money.

I'm a bit surprised by some of the poor reviews. I recently went there with a group from work and thought it was so nice I took my family back there two days later. I am also vegatarian. but it was explained to me that as everything was freshly prepared I could have any dish I liked and they would do it without the meat. there is a pasta dish which should come with bacon, cheese and onions,I had this without the the bacon and it was great. Also the service and prices where fine.
NKUK - 16 Nov 2006 12:28
the food was ok, soup to start -fantastic, however the veggie choice is very very limited .
We were not offered a childrens menue - and only noticed the advertised a childrens menu on the way out...
service is painfully slow. we went at 6.30 on a sunday evening, the place was virtually empty yet starters and main course took two hours...we didnt stay for deserts as it was just two long for the children.

the prices - for a pub restaurant were high -totel bill for two adults and 3 kids -95.....they included 10% sevice charge which frankly I would not have given as the service was nothing other than serving food.
I would not bother again. Id rather go to a resturant where i would expect to pay these prices and have better choice of food for adults, veggies and children rather than a pub restaurent.

Have visited Joes on many occasions and seems to go more downhill every time. I recently went there as a last resort and within minutes reaslised why I had stopped going there - The owner (i think he's the owner anyway) has never been very accommodating it's meant to be "child friendly" my friends and myself asked for our bill after 10 minutes after it was obvious we would have to strap our kids to the chairs and keep them quiet!!! (baring in mind it wasn't very busy in there) That in my book isn't very child friendly. That was certainly the last time I will be leaving there disappointed, as won't be visitin again.

I have given it a 3 because rather than a big ZERO because the prices are reasonable.
party32 - 25 Sep 2006 16:05
I've never used the bar area or visited on an evening but I eat in the restaurant (usually midweek afternoons) about once every couple of months with my wife and young kids and have never been disappointed. The staff know us now but have always treated us very well and along with the decent food and resonably priced bill is why we keep going back. They also serve a nice pint of Guinness!
mr_toon - 10 Aug 2006 23:13
Very busy, but not sure why - Bit pants
TheGP - 9 Jul 2006 12:10
I really like this place but it's more of a restaurant than a bar.

The food is REALLY nice and good value for money.
XXXXX - 6 Mar 2006 11:33
Shouldn't be considered as a pub; it's a restaurant with an corresponding propensity for long waits and uninterested staff.
Rich_of_Hampton - 1 Nov 2005 01:58
Nice, like it. Definitely a week dayer rather then a weekender but it has a decent atmospehere and a (tiny) garden in the summer
sharpe - 28 Jan 2005 14:11
More of a restaurant really. Go for a good burger or steak. Good value for money. A small, OK, bar area if you want more of a 'trendy bar' feel in H.H.
pinot - 19 Jan 2005 13:28
This bar/rest has been in Hampton Hill for over 10 years & is v popular with families on the weekend (food is mexican / burgers type, but tasty). Bar is more a wine bar style & a maybe a touch pricey. Staff always helpful if a little busy at peak times. One of the better Hampton Hill venues.
