The Beer Tree was dead when I visited at about 9pm on a Saturday, then again most of Henley seemed pretty quiet as well. 4 hand pumps but only 2 real ales available, my half of 'Fields of Gold' was nice. Lots of fonts for various foreign beers and a large selection of bottled beers. Will return someday.

Now called "The Beer Tree" not "The Beer House" sorry pinky royal. Was renamed earlier this year and has 200 different Beers on sale. The dearest being 19:50 a bottle.

Now called The Beer house

Now renamed "The Boat House" I Went here yesterday as part of the "Brakspears Henley Ale Trail" Small Patio at rear which is a Sun Trap but the Pub is a large souless shell of a GAstro Pub. On a Sunny afternoon there was only about four people in there. OK Pint of Brakspears Bitter. But would not return here during the day, may be better in the Evening. I remember this pub as the Queens Head and it was always very busy, seem they have ripped the soul out of the place

Bar and grill. At 2pm I bought a pint of brakspears with no trying to get me to buy a meal. Very pretty barmaids. Lovely place. Food looked good but I had already eaten

Pleasant end to the evening was had at The Queens Head. Its got a licence to 1.AM on a Saturday night and is aligned to a more mature crowd due to the over 21 age rule (more mature than that inhabiting the crche at the Catherine Wheel up the road. ).
Personally, the copious amounts of Harley Davidson decoration makes it more like an American diner than a pub, but still a decent bar for a late night drink and although the Brakespears wasnt the best wed had during the weekend, couldnt fault the service or the ambience.

well you must have been unlucky with that one I thought the regatta didn't start until the Wednesday but I was in the back garden drinking cider on Monday, I was there during the Regatta, there where two fantastic bands on THURSDAY AND FRIDAY night, they where one of the only places not charging entry on the door, myself and my wife where greated, by the owner in a totally mad shirt, larger than life personallity, and made to feel welcome.

it seemed that this pub caters for the right age group, not that I am old but we did try the Weatherspoons on the corner, the monkey on the door tried to charge me a tenner for getting in. nah thats not right, tried the Arglye, then the Victoria, then we tried Maggoos, but itb was full of kids and then they wanted to charge????

The Queens gets my vote good beer, great bands, fantastic atmosphere, they get my thumbs up, when I am back in henley this is where you'll find me, spot on.

Inexplicably shut at 4pm on the Monday of regatta week.

Remembered this place in it's previous incarnation as the Idle Hour a few years back, so I entered with trepidation whilst on my crawl a few months back.

The interior has had a bit of an overhaul but still retains its general mood as being very much set up for the younger Henley crowd, all dim lighting, Americana touches and loungy sofas. I was greeted by a friendly barmaid (I guess this must be Catherine) who was a convivial hostess.

Two ales on (Brakspear Bitter and Hobgoblin) which were fine.

A vast improvement and worth a stop on a Henley crawl I think. Well done.

Visited this pub for the first time and have to admit being pretty impressed. The decor is good, the layout is interesting with comfy chairs but enough space for a crowd to form as well and the owner was keen to have a chat. You are made to feel at home.

What was really fantastic was the food. There was a small hot food menu but the dish I had was an freshly made by my very enthusiatic host and of excellent quality. Cassoulet is not what I expect to see as pub grub and it was a delight to find that it really was authentic recipe rather than simply an approximation. This pub gets my vote. Go ask what is on and be prepared to enjoy yourself.

Really, really impressed with The Queens Head under the new management of Aaron and Catherine. it is arguably the best welcome that you will recieve in any pub in Henley. The beer is in great condition and the bar food is excellent (great for a quick working lunch). Would recommend the bar nuts too! It amazing how an athmosphere can change in a place, with a friendly welcome. well worth a visit!

As promised The Queens is back! The dcor has changed slightly from the ill-fated Idle Hour to be warmer and more inviting, but its really the new owners who have brought the place back to life, and with it a welcoming drinking establishment which Henley has long been missing. Theres a good range of beers on tap for both real ale and lager drinkers, but even better a decent wine list at very reasonable prices. Scouse and Catherine - thank you for giving us back our pub! Long live The Queens!

I can only reiterate what other posters have said - the change since the new owners have taken over has been remarkable.

Henley has a proper pub again. Great beer, top food, cracking atmosphere and charming hosts who actually make you feel welcome when you walk in. Cracking stuff, and long may it continue.

This must be one of the most welcoming pubs in the area. The landlord and landlady are excellent hosts. They have taken the old pub by the scruff of its neck and reinstated the Queens Head into one of the premier pubs in town. Wether you're having a quiet coffee during the day or having a lively Friday and Saturday night out the service is always brilliant. The bar snacks are different and if these are anything to go by, when they get a full menu up and running, it should be a delight to eat there. The beer on tap is as good as it gets and a splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Since taking over and reverting it to The Queens Head (a name that's been in the town for generations) Scouse, and not forgetting Catherine, has transformed The Queens into probably the only pub in town with a bit of atmosphere. The over 21's policy is a shrewd move and although it's only been open a matter of weeks, people are returning to a well loved pub. There has been a large investment in decor which will be added to over the next few weeks, but it already has the feel of a familiar friend returned. Scouse has said that he is always open to ideas, theme/charity nights, barbecues, anything that the punter wants. It really is refreshing to hear somebody taking note and actually giving the public what they want. The bar food is excellent and plans are under way to offer a full menu soon. Along with the beers on offer, I can recommend the coffee and panninis, sold through the day. This pub is thoroughly recommended and a warm welcome is guaranteed.

I was in this pub many years ago when they had bands and it was a great venue. Since changing back from a gastro bar??? the new landlords seem to have grasped what the town needs...a decent pub with. As Arnie says "I'LL BE BACK".

I have been using this pub for a couple of weeks since its opening and it got all the old faces back, the even have some kind of a cold kinda tapas counter, which Scouse the landlord prepares different salads and nice kinda foods inside, we where here the other night and have to say its got a great sound system, the decor is warm and welcoming and he has a wine list thats fantastic. Everyone seems to thinks its a biker pub ( far from it) he has loads of mates who are bikers me being one?? but tell you what you wont find a warmer welcome and his missus Catherine great Irish bird behind the bar????
scouse113 - 30 Sep 2008 23:07
Just spoken to the new landlord and his wonderful girlfriend, they are a really nice couple and they are taking over the tired Idle hour and putting the Queens head back on the map, thay have assured me that its going to be really exciting,a bit biker friendly come american styled bar venue, but the most important of all great beers on offer, great company, great food and this guy seems to be very well known about henley!!!! lots hope they have found some one with the passion and drive?????
scouse113 - 7 Aug 2008 15:48
Better than it was, but not worth stopping for.
Quinno - 29 Jul 2007 19:04
Has had some money spent on it recently, white walls, new name and a bit of poorly fitted wooden floor. The layout is comfortable but the loos have a habit of overflowing, best take your wellies with you!! We did try to chill and read the papers as the last review suggested but we found the noise of the traffic and the lorry fumes a little distracting.
anonymous - 29 Jul 2007 16:07
This place is now the Idle hour and it is a great place to have a local pint to chill read the papers on one the leather sofas.

Food is quite organic and the owner has 2 other pubs in South West London, so as you can imagine it has wood floors, leather seats etc. Not a bad little place deffo worth a stop when you are in Henley.

Serves Organic brakespear ale
