user reviews of the Midnight Bell, Leeds

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Well worth the 5 minute walk from the back of the railway station, less manic than most city centre pubs on a Friday eve, recommended.

Another good pub in Holbeck. the usual wood floor and furniture and serving the range of Leeds Brewery beers. My Yorkshire gold was off, no problem either have a different ale or wait whilst the barrel was changed. I waited and it was worth it £3.40
I had food here which was also very good.

After a couple of beers in The Scarborough & The Hop we arrived at this Leeds brewery Tap.

It was around 4pm when we got here and it was already pretty busy , most of the punters were out the back in the large outside area by the canal, this is a great spot for drinks in the sun

Good range of ales and continental lagers, quick and attentive service from the bar staff.

Another very decent pub that is worthy of another visit.

As referred to in previous reviews, this is a new style slick looking pub, owned by Leeds brewery. It offered Leeds Pale, Best and Midnight Bell as well as a few guests. It was fairly quiet on our Saturday afternoon visit, but as it is fairly small, this was not a problem.
The pub is only a five minute walk from the train station on Water Lane, and when linked with visits to the Hop and the Grove nearby, offers a good choice of real ale in pleasant surroundings, just outside the main city centre area.

Bank Holiday Monday tea time so very empty.
Clean, new, modern with wood and tasteful paint etc.
Beers were good but could have been just slightly fresher & cooler, presumably not enough turnover that particular day.
Staff fine, probably a nicer experience on a warm sunny day. Anyway it's worth a second call.

Dropped in for the second time for a quick one on Saturday. The place seems clean and bright and the beer has been good both times, but the clientele is a little upwardly mobile, trendy and fashionably pretentious for my taste. Too much vacuous talk and too many sprogs in posh buggies! Still, I did see a prat drinking Liefman's Kriek from the bottle complete with paper wrapping, which was a first.

Saturday lunchtime - a quick pint (or two) Leeds Pale Ale (nice easy-drinking beer). Service was fine I didn't have to wait long even though the bar was very busy. Quite a few LUFC fans in but they were the "nice crowd" and it was all very amicable. I have been here before and enjoyed the beer. The pub is modern in style and perhaps a tadge sterile(?)but I would still visit it when next in Leeds and it's well worth the short walk down from the station (via The Hop and The Grove!!)

ill informed bar maid with attitude spoiled our visit even more than the cloudy (and slightly over warm) Pale which was willingly changed for a poorly pulled Best. Our glasses felt un-clean on the outside (as if they had been rinsed with dirty water), guess this was on the inside as well. Won't be rushing back.

This is a contemporary bar-style establishment, part of the Holbeck Urban Village development. It was thronging on our visit due to the weather and its spacious outside area, with tables and chairs, deckchairs and a small patch of grass. As the name suggests, it is run by Leeds Brewery and the interior bears a resemblance to its stablemate, the Brewery Tap. It features a range of premium lagers and stocks guest Ales, on our visit the hitherto-untried Eager Owl (a dark 4% beer which was much enjoyed). I thought the interior was a little bland all told, although I am glad that such a pub owned by a small local brewery is doing so well.

A superb pub - excellent service, great beer, plenty of outside seating and very clean throughout - top marks!

Good beers. If you like Ikea furniture, you'll like this place. In my opinion however bars with soft edges always win out over the sharp edes and wooden style places, so I had to mark this one down for that.

Great pub with a lovely airy feel, excellent beer and good food. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Hard to fault.

Visited here with Saints on 19 December. Can't add much to the review by oldboots below except to say the seasonals were Ale Maryand a 6.5% Belguan Dubbel style beer called Tantalus plus a guest, Milestone Lion's Pride. Worth combining with the Cross Keys.

Crisp and modern wine bar style bar owned by the Leeds Brewery. L shaped ground floor, a very large outdoor area and, unexplored by me, an upper floor. 9 handpumps serving three beers from Leeds; Pale, Best and Midnight Bell plus a guest I forgot to note because my pint of Best was positively perfect in every way. Some of the cooler brands of continental beers also available here served in the appropriate glassware. Light wood furniture mostly of the hard seating variety and mostly arranged for dining. Tasteful dcor in various shades of light grey with matt white woodwork incorporating the Leeds Brewery corporate shape as used on their pump clips and bottle labels. On the ball, friendly and enthusiastic, young team of staff. You may be able to guess the customer profile, young to youngish, trendy to trendyish, urbanite ubercools and those who want to be thought ubercool; oh and a couple of old farts like myself. A little pretentious but in a very Leeds kind of way. Although not quite up to the standard of Walters Bar in Hull, like the Cross Keys almost next door this is the kind of place that proves good ale doesn't need to be sold in some sort of doss house or museum.

Modern bar serving 3 Leeds beers in very good nick, if a tad cold. The presentation was enhanced by serving the half pints in lined 'balloon' glasses. Popped in as we were on the way to the nearby Cross Keys, but actually preferred here.

I stumbled across this place by mistake. It is a little posey, but they had an excellent mild on the night I visited, and the beer does seem very well looked after. I'd go back.

I agree that pub is slightly 'bistro' but what should a modern pub look like? Better this way that some faux Victorian job. Took parents and kids for Saturday lunch and loved it. Good food, friendly bar staff, two guest ales (Vale & Old Bear during visit) plus three regular Leeds Brewery beers and their seasonal also Duvel Green on draft. What more could you want? For a more lively evening drink there are plenty of other pubs in the area. Good work Leeds Brewery.

Late review from November. Not a GBG pub, but one we wanted to visit as we like Leeds beers. Enjoyed the beers, but not too sure of the modern interior.

Lovely pub, lovely beer and lovely staff. Leeds Pale was excellent. Visited this on a Sunday night and it was quite quiet, which is a shame as it deserves to be busier. Thanks Vicky for the wonderful welcoming smile. Highly recommended.

New, seemed a bit too formulaic for my liking. All square joints and canteen seating. Beer was fair.

Newish pub serving three ales from Leeds brewery - a pale, a golden and a ruby. Tried the first two - both good but former edges it.

Similar to the Cross Keys (its neighbour) in some respects and target market but definitely worth trying the local beers.
