The Whalebone, Fingringhoe

Visited for the first time at the weekend as we are househunting in the area. Sadly disappointed on several levels. First and foremost the attitude of the owners made us feel most unwelcome - a shame as the girl serving at the bar was enthusiastic and tried to be helpful.
We were overcharged for both our food and drinks - my girlfriend was charged more for a plate of vegetables and two yorkshire puddings than I was for sausage, black pudding and mash which is absurd. Upon questioning this we were told that vegetables are more expensive than meat!
It's a great shame as the pub is very attractive, is in a lovely spot and I would have liked to have made it my local. I find it astounding in this day and age, with pubs closing all over the place, that this attitude can prevail.

The Lexden Crown, Colchester

I've learned that it has been bought by the owner of The Lemon Tree restaurant and has been done up. If the job has been done properly the Crown (renamed The Lexden Crown) should do well as there is no competition in the area.

The Adelphi, Leeds

Visited this pub on a previous trip to Leeds on the strength of it's CAMRA NI status but I have to agree with some of the previous reviews in that this gem has not been properly looked after, feeling somewhat rundown.
