This is now a Harvester pub..must be the only pub in the country which could be improved by becoming a Harvester! However, it's still extremely poor, hence my rating of 0 out of 10.

Well all I can say to lovepubsportland I can understand all what you have said, We went there tody for a Carvery never again fatty gamon dried up turkey and some brisket the "roast" pots were cold and the rest of the veg either boiled to mush I will repeat lovepubsportland's words food is as offensive as the staff.
Basically a beautiful pub has been turned into a place of nightmares. keep away.

I went to The Spyglass Inn today for a cheap family meal. I used to live in Weymouth and used to come here alot when I was a child and it was the Hungrymans.
Well where to start......We ordered our food at the counter and repeated it to the young girl serving a 2nd time as she didn't catch it all at first. When the food came out there wwas only 3 meals for 4 people, obviously a mistake had been made. We told the young girl who bought the food out and she said "well that's what you have ordered.". No apology, nothing. I pointed out that I certainly didn't forget to order my own meal and I was told if we give her the money she will order it now. So very unhappily we gave her the cash and I waited whilst everyone else ate their meal. Then the food comes out after 25 mins and it is wrong! So we tell the staff. We got told once again that this is what was ordered. One of the young girls working there stood and argued with us for 5 mins about whether we ordered the meal at all the first time around. Then the girl that took our order came over to argue too. We pointed out that there had still been no apology and now they were ruining our dinner! After they still stood there arguing for another 5 mins I asked for the manager, expecting somebody to actually apologise and perhaps even offer some form of compensation, instead I got a very angry man come over to me lean on my chair put his face in mine and say "PROBLEM?!" very loudly so now most of the people in the place were looking and staring. So once again we went through what had happend. We got the reply of "Well you didnt order 4 meals as it says you only ordered 3 on the print out from the till"! By this point I felt like screaming! I explained that I did order my dinner and that obviously a mistake had happend, but instead of anyone apologising to us we have had his members of staff being very rude. So he said "fine SORRY!" In a very loud rude and sarcastic tone of voice, by this point his face was about 2 inchs from mine and I had enough of this bullying tactic, so I said "Excuse me, but who do you think you are talking to us like that." and got told in a very curt response "I'm not going to stand here and listen to your abuse" and he stormed off with his rude staff in towe! Ridiculous, after having people argue with me for 20mins and a rude man in my face, it was me a 26yr old female that was told she was being abusive! So we just left, very angry, upset and a little shaken up by this mans demenour towards me. I think through the argument I managed to take a bite out of my burger and eat a few chips before we left, and lets just say the food is as offensive as the staff.
Basically a beautiful pub has been turned into a place of nightmares.
Stay away at all costs. It's not worth ruining your day for!

wow what can i say, this is without doubt the best pub i have been too!!!
Totally amazing views of the sea, a well looked after carvery & brilliant menu. The staff were the best part of our visit so friendly and welcoming they helped with all our needs. I can see from some of these reviews not everyone agrees i really dont understand why your visits were so bad, we have been going there for the last 6 months and every visit just keeps getting better. Cant wait for world cup here they are having a vip area with full table service, bring it on!!!

I am sorry to say we visited this pub on Tuesday & had the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We were unhappy with our carvery and asked to speak to manager. The manageress came to our table and began to argue with us concerning our complaints. She was very aggressive and did not offer to rectify any of our issues. She refused to give us her company or area managers details. The landlord then approached us and also began to argue with us. We ended up having to leave with the manageress shouting at us as we left. Don't think I have ever experienced such bad service, we had our 3 young children with us and they were traumatised from the whole situation. I hate to write such a bad review but have no other choice from the landlord and landlady's actions.
Bad food, bad service, very bad attitude to customers, nappy bin overflowing in toilets and disgusting cleanliness. This used to be a fantastic pub for families, such a shame.

I have visited the Spy Glass a few times and each time has been different and i can only say that the new management are getting to grips with the staff and what the locals want. They are polite and very welcoming, sometimes they are short staffed but this is more than likely to do with trying to find the right balance. I look forward to visiting again and seeing the place and experience improve.

We have visited this pub a few times over the last year and the staff are never the same?

The carvery started off ok and then went down hill fast. We kept trying to be postive, but.... they actually weigh the meat (unlike the Sunray, just up the road - where they do not!) - and there is not always a good selection of vegetables.

They always seem to be extremely shortstaffed and run off their feet. I really feel for the staff - no wonder they don't stay?

This could be such a wonderful place (the views are amazing) - please look after your staff and they might be happier and stay longer and then the service will be better and more people will visit and return.

Since this pub changed hands I don't like it at all! it's trying to be all posh, it should have stuck to what it was good at, a tourist pub for families with a laid back atmosphere! now it's all up tight and they look down their noses at you!!!
