2017 Good beer guide entry - deservedly so. Good beers on, I went for a first Gold Wing.

After 13 miles walking and up since 4am, this remained the last pint of the day. Normally, I would have stayed for more.

A bus ride from Keswick to have lunch at this GBG 2015 entry and a tick for me.

We sat in the Riverside bar where there are 6 hand pumps. 4 ales on the pumps all from the local area. I went for a pint of Barngates Tag Lag.

Open plan area with seating around the outside, all tables laid out ready for diners'. There's an outside patio area to the rear with the river running next to it, very picturesque.

A lovely little bar, good selection of ales, well priced & tasty food...another tick from the trusty guide.

Entered this place after a glorious day walking in Borrowdale. The pub is surprisingly spacious, with a snug-like area to the left as you enter. Six pumps - at least two offerings from the Jennings stable and a beer from Keswick brewery. I can't recall what I had (possibly Loweswater Gold) not great, but it was cold and slaked my thirst.
This is the only pub in Rosthwaite, so if you're after a drink this is where you'll end up.

Visited this pub 3 times last week while on holiday, beer in good condition, excellent food, and really friendly and obliging staff. Well worth a visit, especially if you are a walker, dog owner etc. Cheers

we popped in trying to find something to eat and had missed serving times by 10 mins the barmaid was adamant we couldn't have anything basic such as a sandwich, we ended up getting the 79 bus into Keswick for food at The Dog.

Think it has too much of a monopoly so doesn't really care what folk think.

Agree to an extent with the last post that it seemed to be tourists in the majority, but there was a good selection of beer including Copper Dragon and the atmosphere, whilst subdued, was far from unfriendly.

Very much a place for tourists, and therefore quite expensive. A few ales on offer and food of good sized portions and tasty but generally this place felt unfriendly and unloved.

There is a climbers bar at the back of the Scafell Hotel which is probably the best place to have a drink in Borrowdale. It comprises three interlinked spaces with a fireplace, and well managed fire, dividing one from the main bar area. The bar itself carries half a dozen changing local beers and there is a menu of informal modestly priced food (and a huge array of sauce sachets on one end of the bar). If there is a disadvantage it is that it is quite dark in summer. But on my visit in December there was a real buzz, the fire was warm and the bar staff were very welcoming.
