Not a bad place at all - beer is decent enough, rarely have a bad pint and on the occasion where it has been bad, the staff have always been quick to sort it out. The people running the place are very friendly and welcoming.

These days, the Pride seems to be consistantly bad - cloudy and on the turn. I dont know if they simply dont sell enough or what. Otherwise I like the place.

Has had a makeover and is a lot better for it - a better atmosphere and (dare I say it) better customers.

I had a good pint of Pride (why no local ale though?).

Worth popping into now, especially since the Gun seems to gone downhill.

Quite a reasonable modernised interior, and a perfectly respectable pint of Pride.

Me and her indoors have kind of switched to this pub from the Gun as the Gun stopped doing Pride. Despite other posts below I have not had a bad pint. Also the food is good quality and value.

This pub has always been unable to serve a decent pint. It's now under new ownership so I was hopefull that I might get a decent pint. Only had London Pride on, it was so bad I had to spit it out, vinegar. Only other bitter was John Smiths. Person behind the bar was far to busy to change the barrel. Was changed an hour or so later, lines not flushed in between barrels and next pint poor. Will not be going back.
If you can't keep and sell a decent pint of bitter you should not be in the pub trade.

Very nice pub - you can actually hear other people talking - not drowned out by loud music, and theres loads off room to sit.
No beer garden, but very friendly and liked it a lot - will return!

Still the same old Holly Tree as far as I can make out - dark and dingy with no real atmosphere most times.

Ale is usually a very average pint of London Pride.

Armstrong Gun and Happy Man are far better bets for the area.

Excellent refurb which has substantially improved the place (e.g. pool table has now been removed). Nice decor (although perhaps slightly OTT in parts) and great service/atmosphere. A comfortable, modern well-turned out pub but still retains a bit of charm- good antidote to cynical chainpubs and the like. Live music and late opening (till 1) on some nights (Wed, Sat, presumably for the student clientele, who are present but generally well-behaved). Food available but very expensive. The best pub in Engy.
