The Holly Tree, Englefield Green

Excellent refurb which has substantially improved the place (e.g. pool table has now been removed). Nice decor (although perhaps slightly OTT in parts) and great service/atmosphere. A comfortable, modern well-turned out pub but still retains a bit of charm- good antidote to cynical chainpubs and the like. Live music and late opening (till 1) on some nights (Wed, Sat, presumably for the student clientele, who are present but generally well-behaved). Food available but very expensive. The best pub in Engy.

The Happy Man, Englefield Green

Yes, many of the negative comments below (i.e. racists etc) refer to a previous unfortunate interlude when there was a brief roach infestation. The place has now been fumigated and these problems no longer occur. Nice pub, good atmosphere, food used to be great a few years ago but has slipped now. Bit poky but this only adds to the appeal.
