Chef and Brewer Chain and packed solid at 12pm on a Bank Holiday Monday with families.

They managed to squeeze us in after some negotiation. Plus side, the staff are friendly.

Only Abbott Ale was available -everything else off. The food was good but not value for money.

A Functional 5.

Re-visited this pub recently on the way back from a mountain marathon with a couple of friends. I had the Sunday roast which again was very disappointing - just about warm and not cooked very well. They both had other items from the menu such as Lasagne which they told me was better and their portions were better. The lesson appears to be: "avoid the Sunday Roast".

My family and I have visited this pub a few times on our journey to Telford from Southampton.
It has always been welcoming, even when busy they go out of their way to seat you as soon as they can.
I can say not once have we been disappointed with the food or cost.
It is a very attractive building inside and out regardless of its setting,
It has a nice looking play park but have not been able to use yet due to the lovely BRITISH weather.

I visit this pub whenever in the area. It has not changed much over the past twenty years. Never found the beer to be anything special but drinkable. The food has aways been expensive but on my last visit a sub 10 two course menu had been added. It is a nice old building sensitively extended but situated on a very busy road island at the top of a steep hill. The gardens are fine if you like watching HGVs struggle but a bit noisy and fumey for my taste.
Being a lover of fine sausages I to mourn their passing. Perhaps the fact that this pub has so much passing trade gives it the impersonal feel about it, bit like a motorway services but of better class and quality
A bottle of red wine normaly available in GK pubs for 5.99 will set you back 12.99 here without waiter service.

Two years ago I'd have given this pub an 8 but last week after I visited I'd have to downgrade it to a 4 as standards have slipped considerably. The different varieties of sausage and mash that used to be on the menu weren't there anymore and the interesting items on the menu changed to bland everyday things. We had the Roast Pork which was disappointing. We were warned the plates were exceptionally hot: they weren't, they were just a tad above normal room temperature. The carrots had the appearance of being left over from last week and, together with the cauliflower, had been barely cooked. I was also annoyed to find the credit card machine had been set to ask for a gratuity yes/no on paying for the meal before even receiving it. I never put a tip on the credit card on principle, especially before even receiving the meal! Too many establishments are using this as an excuse to pay their staff less than the minimum wage if the staff even receive the tip at all, and it's very presumptuous to ask before the customer has had chance to evaluate the food and service!

Beer was short measure but served well.
Quite a nice pub but the food was on the wrong side of hot & took ages to come (the puddings never did come!!)
OK but if i were eating would probably find somewhere else

Found this pub after stopping off at a Hungry Horse for lunch on the way to Wales. Marked it in SatNav to visit on the way home. Food choice was great and the pub excellent. Only gripe was hikers who dumped their rucksacks around their tsble which required considerable negotiation to surmount. However I've met similar people on London Underground with rucksacks on their backs.
Greene King Abbot is delicious - well kept and well served. Menu is both extensive and challenging (went there on pie week) Food was excellent. Definately a pub to call in again when next in the area

Quick, efficient, very friendly service. Beautiful homely pub with excellent outdoor area (including play area). Good range of options available for Sunday lunchtime, although Sunday roast was taken off the menu after approx 2:30pm. Food good, prices a little on the high side.
