It doesn't look like a penny has been spent on the place since it opened.

Only ever visited in an afternoon when it's been empty.

They never seem to have the ordinary Young's Bitter on. The Special is very nice though and worth the visit.

Not a bad pub, always quite lively and has good entertainment.

Not a natural pub; lots of awkward little partitions and corners, probably because of the buildings original use which makes watching the live music and speaking to people in largish groups, particulary at the weekend, quite difficult. Beer is always of good quality and reasonably priced.

Clientele are generally ok; not seen any sign of trouble in there in the few times i've visited and doesn't particulary feel like there would be. The inside feels quite traditional but in a mocked Wetherspoons way.

Overall, nothing special. There are better and worse pubs in the area so not somewhere where you would go on a special night out or occasion and certainly nothing worth going out of your way for.

My girlfriend has reported to me that there was a lot of commotion outside The Courthouse last night, (Feb 24th) which resulted in a chair getting smashed through one of the windows. This is most surprising as Ive always thought here was a trouble free zone, hence the lack of bouncers etc. I can only presume that perhaps those who caused the trouble are un-desirables who usually frequent, but are now bared from nearby establishments such as The Litten Tree opposite or perhaps The Royal Bull And Victoria. I wont be changing my rating as I feel that this is hopefully a one-off, but it is sad indication of the times nevertheless.

Jimmy - still plenty of pubs in Dartford and elsewhere awaiting my unrelenting praise or poison pen. Stay tuned. I am currently trying to pluck up courage to go into the Crush Bar. That will be fun. You must be following me about!

Nice man.............. Roger B is there a pub which you haven't written a damn review about!

Youngs pubs normally deliver two things;

God pubs & expensive beer. Or to put it another way; West End prices in the suburbs.

I've popped in here a couple of times recently and have to admit that I rather like it. As others have pointed out, it's a little different to the surrounding boozers and all the better for it. I've enjoyed the live music I've witnessed and I liked the pleasant friendly atmosphere. A recommended alternative.

A Youngs pub house in what was (amazingly enough) an old Court House although I understand it also had a spell as a Bank. There is still a lot of character to the building and one can just imagine what sort of interesting cases were dealt with and punishments meted out within these walls over the years. Todays Court House is a lot more welcoming. The impressive exterior gives way to a more simplistic interior with bare floors and plain furniture. A couple of separate rooms / drinking areas peel away from the main bar area, one of which is a child friendly non smoking room. Typical Youngs beers offered at the usual Town Centre prices. At least 3 TVs including 2 Plasma / LCD and a Big screen - can be popular for big football / rugby matches. Regular Quiz nights and live music also feature. I am not sure if it is still there but on the notice board is a short story featuring several Dartford pub names (and there are plenty to choose from). The Court House has generally been a moron free zone when I have been in there.

Large, attractive conversion from the town courthouse. Has the anonymous modern slick of a Wetherspoon, but slightly trendier. Quite a decent pub.

You have got to be kidding...This place is a dive. Uncomfy seats, dodgy lager and barstaff that act as if they have all just been told they've got cancer. Avoid like the plague.

Never been here, but its reputation in and around town is growing rapidly! Meant to be a fantastic pub, not alot of trouble, and no kids in here. il dertainly be paying it a visit soon.

most certainly the only decent pub in Dartford for non-wannabe Jordan/Dane Bowers types - make sure you grab a table long before a match at the weekends

One of the best pubs in Dartford. Historic old building that has kept it's character. Decent beers and varied programme of entertainment. Doesn't get too crowded or smoky. Never come across any bother despite central location in a town that has it's fair share of plankton brained kid drinkers.

is a splendid place to drink if you like smart toilets. (and Ozzies!!!!!)
Jim - 18 Oct 2003 14:47
This is definitely the best pub in Dartford- better than the Litten Tree!

Once Dartford's courthouse, now a vibrant pub. Good friendly atmosphere and music. Has live music some nights during the week. Food only at lunch time. Good outdoor area for those rare sunny days. It also has a non smoking area and Outback room (with some Australian pictures on the walls). The Courthouse ends to attract patrons over 25 as all the teenage testosterone overloaded idiots go elsewhere. Has a big screen for the major sporting events but you need to get their early to get an unobstructed view.
