Went in there once, scary place, downed pint very quickly. Not that surprised that someone got shot there at the weekend. Usually a paddywagon or two outside on match days.

I have been to the Rainbow quite a bit recently supporting a friends band- and every time I regret it. The beer is poor at best, undrinkable at worst, and it is very very expensive. 3.80 for the worst pint of guiness I have ever had, poured by some of the rudest bar staff I have ever encountered. As a live music venue I feel I have to support it to a small degree- but seriously, there is nothing special about the Rainbow.

Place is under threat due to locals complaining about the noise from the bands. UB40 are playing a gig tonight to raise money for sound proofing!

Open as a pub , has been for the last year. Before the refit, it was a bare bones type of pub (red, worn lino on the floor, scarred wooden seats, largely Irish/Brummie male clientele who drank lager, Guinness and Jameson's) which was, at its best, bloody scary. I drank there often as part of a Digbeth crawl though, in truth, I always preferred the Swan, the Anchor, the Floodgate and the Big Bull's Head.
After, it looks more or less identical but has a live music theme and a younger, less addled set of customers, who could be equally at home in the similarly refurbed Old Wharf, down the road. Lager now costs 3 a pint and there's less chance of getting chinned for no particular reason, but it's definitely lost something, as has Digbeth generally, with the outflow of the Irish to Hall Green, Kings Heath and Yardley. Ont he plus side, some good bands. 6/10.

Not a normal "drop in" pub anymore. It only opens for special events. Consequently I haven't been in and in the light of this I've withdrawn my rating.

Decent little boozer just on the edge of town. Worth a visit in a month or two as it's just reopening and is still building on its theme. When it decides what it it I'm sure it'll be a welcoming haunt to a fair few.

Not a bad evening to be had here. Good music (especially the 'Silver Dollar' nights), good looking women and a good atmosphere.

Unfortunately not as well run as once was. Food no more. Soundsystem can be poor - 0n Nov 11 2006 sound cut out altogether - technicians couldn't put it right and vibe/patrons/credibility was lost despite the hard work of the DJ's to restore parity.

Bohemian muso's pub in working-class Digbeth, popular with
an "in crowd" who mostly treck up from Moseley on the number 50.

Alright if you like that sort of thing. I am giving it a low
rating to restore some sanity.

Nice try, everyone. All the below comments are posted by people that run nights there...

Its a little different to surrounding venues, as the staff and customers appear not to be up there own arses. Great venue with lots of potential, lets see what happens...

Every two weeks on a Wednesday they have open Mike some really original stuff. Saw a two piece set called the Woebetides, excellent songs even if they are a bit controversial. Recommend this place to anyone who wants something a bit different staff are lovely and the beer is cheap. What more can you ask for, Brums best kept secret. Don't let it be a secret for much longer. These places only survive if we Brummies give it the Patronage it deserves
