Following a recent relaunch under a new manager, we thought we'd give this place another try. The manager may have changed, but the awful slow service and average food haven't. Won't be giving it another chance.

We were looking for somewhere to take a relative for a meal. This place seemed ideal as far as looks and location go. We popped in for a drink to check. There were no bar seats left, but it was a busy time. My wife's drink was served in a dirty glass, it was replaced by another, slightly less dirty, and no apology. The barman refused to top up my beer which looked low, and proved to be when I sat down. He was berating a member of staff about shifts, and then started to go into a sneezing fit over the customers at the bar. Next!

Although it's almost a year since the last comment, absolutely nothing has changed. Poor quality food that takes an absolute age to arrive. Almost every table near us complained about the waiting. The supposed manageress said she was new to the pub and had already identified many problems. She was bringing in her own team and was revamping the menu for a September relaunch. Yeah, sure she is. All I can say is she won't be seeing me again.

It looks nice inside, but that's where it ends. Service is terrible from vacant looking staff. We went here for a highly advertised Burns supper, and were served Haggis covered in thick Bisto style gravy...acccccchhh Burns would be spinning in his grave!

Not good. Poor food that takes too long to get served and poor quality beer. Was good a while ago.

I visited in the summer (June). Place was packed. Food was averagely OK, not great to be honest. Was driving so didnt sample the ales. The old part of the building is very nice, decor is a bit hit and miss. I used to visit Colney quite a bit but not anymore, so unlikely to go back. The pubs down by the river always look nice but haven't been there.

Real shame about this place. Would've been nice if someone had told us while showing us to our reserved table that we had to order at the bar! When we worked that out we were told food would be 1hour. We decided to wait. During this wait we heard a neighbouring table complain that mains had taken 1hr45mins to arrive and some had been cold. When we'd been waiting 1hr15mins, I went to enquire about out food and had to queue behind other customers wondering where their food was. We gave up in the end and explained at the bar we were leaving. No hint of an apology. It's probably a great place at 3pm on a Wednesday, but avoid at weekend/evenings!

Being going here on and off for the last few years. It's gone downhill recently. Food can be very slow at busy times and tables are often dirty. Needs a decent Manager to get it back on track.

This is a multi-roomed bar that you really need to take a wander around to appreciate it fully. It has the feel of a rustic kitchen or an old lodge with a lot of exposed beams that look as if they may be original. Its a bit smoky owing to the three log fires that burn throughout the day. Theres plenty of seating inside and a large outside patio. Service was friendly and efficient although it was at a quiet time that I visited. They had leaflets announcing a cask ale festival from September to November but disappointingly I didnt see any of the beers that were advertised, just Adnams and Bombardier.

No problems here, food is the usual overpriced plastic corporate Vintage Inn standard fayre, but the setting is lovely inside and out if you just want to drink!
