Looks lovely from the outside, but once you enter you see a sign reminding patrons swearing and shouting will not be tolerated. All goes downhill from there. Had a decent enough fish and chips and the Mrs has a sausage baguette, surrounded by tattooed locals smoking fags while holding their babies. Truly grim clientele, won't return, not even if starving and dying of thirst.

A really nice building let down by the 'pub' inside. Looked more like a bad Wetherspoons inside with cheap tables and chairs all set out for food and no seating for the drinker. Nice pint of speckled hen to be had though

Decent enough but almost entirely given over to food. Tiny bar and huge barn like eating area tells it all.

There has been no improvement in this pub since the last posting. The bulldozer reference still applies. Sadly this pub could be a grand place and a proper money earner.

Jesus, thought that pubs like this had all gone out of business years ago!!
Tired decor,staff abyssmal,tired menu,service dire,cold Fish and chips,need i go on.
Best advice is don't go.This pub needs a makeover 10 years ago even the menus are dog-eared,at least get some new ones without stains on.
Can't find anything good to say about this pub except a visit from a bulldozer might improve it.SHAME.

Had a Christmas lunch at the Three Crutches today and it was a total rip-off. The only vegetarian option was risotto (total garbage) and, when the dessert arrived, the custard was cold and so had to be sent back. A rubbish pub with likewise rubbish food. I'll never go there again. My advice is to avoid it like the plague.

On Saturday 10th January, five of us went to the Three Crutches, for lunch.

We placed our orders and waited, as we were talking we did not at first notice the time we had been waiting, we then realised we had been waiting for nearly an hour.

I had a word with the manageress. Our waitress arrived and explained that the print out to the kitchen had run out of paper and the order had not been received by the kitchen. We accepted this answer, although only six tables in the restaurant were occupied at the time. After approximately a further fifteen Minutes four out of the five starters ordered arrived. The waitress apologised and said she had only ordered four and would we like a glass of wine as compensation. We told her one glass of wine between five people would not go far. She said it was only for the person who had not got their starter. We said that we had all had to wait for that person who had not got their starter and a bottle of wine was felt to be more appropriate. Then she went away and when she returned she said we could only have a glass of wine. We said a bottle. The waitress returned with a bottle and said it had been taken out of her allowance.

The main course arrived; I had ordered steak med/rare. My meal arrived and I requested some French mustard. The waitress returned with a bowl of sauces and asked if everything was o.k. said yes although I had not touched my meal as I was waiting for the French mustard. (No French mustard in the bowl.) When I cut into my steak it was well done and dry, not medium rare as requested. I went to the manageress and quietly asked her to come and see my steak. She came to our table and asked, Did the waitress come and ask you if everything of ok I said yes, when she brought the mustard, but I had not started the steak because I was waiting for the mustard. She replied, that is the end of the story. We then said about the waitress having to pay for the bottle of wine, what you want me to do she asked. We replied we think you should authorise the bottle of wine. She replied my Manager would want to know why, at which we responded For Goodwill. We had been kept waiting when the order was lost, one starter was missing She then said End of story and walked away.

A short time later a waiter arrived and cleared everything on our table and gave us the bill. We were given no opportunity to order deserts or coffee.

We felt as though we were being thrown out. We had looked forward to meeting our friends and enjoying a meal together. However the whole day was ruined for us. The owner hasnot replyed to our letter

Have today visited the Three Crutches. We have used the place many times and its getting worse and worse. Why we keep trying i don't know. Today the lasagne was slop, the cheese garlic bread microwaved, the chips manky looking and re-fried tasting of fish and the gammon was like eating from a salt cellar. Asked if we were happy with our meals we explained the above. The reply was 'Sorry about that'!!! We refused to pay for the 2 extra sides of chips but before the rude asst manageress agreed to refund the price of chips she needed to see them first and trying to humiliate my wife in front of diners. Believe me she would have met her match as my wife did not intend in making a scene. If it had carried on she would have mentioned the lasagne being slop and the microwaved garlic bread with cheese. They have had enough chances and enough is enough.

Heard about this restaurant from a few of our close friends and they said they had enjoyed eating here every time they had been so thought i'd try it out and take the wife and kids out and see what it was like.
I booked a table for about 7:30pm on a saturday, on arrival i was greeted by a waitress who was very friendly and accomodating asking if my youngest girl would like some crayons and a colouring in book.
I myself a chef for the last 11 years can be very critical when we go out and eat so i was wary about the idea of the 2 meals for ten pounds thinking that maybe the food would represent the price, and i can happily say that i was pleasantly supprised by the quality of food i recieved. The children had nuggets and chips so not much to comment on there only that it was hot and they had enough ketchup to keep them happy. I myself had the Chicken carbonara, as easy as the dish is to make it is just as easy as to get completely wrong but the carbonara i had was light and filling with an amazing sauce that totally complemented the dish as a whole ( i'll be asking the chef for his secret) my wife had minted lamb chops which i also tasted, the lamb was a tender medium rare the way a lamb chop should be as to enjoy the flavour. the mash was fluffy and complemented with a mint jus' gravy.
All in all a very nice meal and completely suprised by the quality of food and the great service that i got.
If i had to rate this place it would get a 9/10.

We visited this pub for a birthday lunch and should have realised we'd make the wrong decision when, on ordering the drinks we were told that they had no white wine!! Then we orders a drink of milk for our 5 year old and was told they had no milk.
We ordered our meal and the waited over 45 mins for it to arrive, bearing in mind that we were the only people eating in there by now. The gammon steak was extremely salty, the steak and kidney pies were all kidney and no steal, with over half the pie being made up of gravy. The vegetables were cold. The salads were full of grit where they hadn't been washed properly. At no time during the meal did anyone ask if things were okay, or even if we wanted another drink.
We did not want to make too much fuss as this was supposed to be a special lunch, but we did eventually complain to the assistant manageress, and frankly she just was not interested. One of the comments was that the meals were only two for 10 so what more did we expect!
This is our 3rd trip to this pub, and it will certainly be our last. Beware of the pub with no wine!!!

Sorry to say, but I think we ate on the same day as kgilson!! Had to wait about an hour, and the lasagna came out a bit burnt! Luckily we didn't have the kids with us, so it wasn't a major issue. And the beer was flowing - as long as you didn't mind having to wait while the tills decided if I was allowed to pay for it or not!
Anyway - we've been back there a couple of times, and I must say that the new couple running it seem to be on top of things. Had a most enjoyable roast on Sunday and there was a very friendly atmosphere.
If I'd scored it at the first visit, I would have only given it about 4. We went back to give them another try - after some friends had been there - and I'm glad we did.
I wish Nichola and Rob all the best in running the place, and they will see me and mine there again.

Visited last Saturday with our young children who are very fussy eaters. The staff were so friendly and accomodated the children's requests. It's so nice to finde somewhere local that we can take the kids and socialise. We were made to feel so welcome and they've got a great garden for the kids. Will definatley come again.

Where do I start with this one, I was hoping from the pictures of the pub, and comments I had seen this would be a new local place to try. First of all the food, well I can only assume that the cook is trying for a GCSE, as the jacket potato was raw, the bread was stale, and I had to have chicken on my ham roll as they didn't have pickle. The order was wrong as two side orders of chips were put down instead of one, not that they were enjoyable as there was no vinegar. The final straw was when we got home and realised that we had been cheated out of the two meals for 10 deal, as the discount had never been put down on the bill. My family were told that the pub had just changed hands, and they were moving to a new menu. The single point on the rating fo rthis pub comes from the fact that the drink order was correct.

Doesn't know if it wants to be a pub or restaurant, but worth a visit for a family meal in good weather, the steak and ale pie was very filling. Would have rated it higher if the fence around the playground was in better condition.

Remote place on a dead end lane at the very edge of town, yet very popular. Huge beer garden and two meals for 10. Only one cask - Ruddles Country - kept in half-decent condition (could do with some temperature control in the cellar). Relaxed, low key place, lacking in charm and character and a sense of pride, but OK. The small front room is the best part.
