No problems with this little gem at all. Prices keep out the unwanted. My husband and I regularly drink in here and have had some wonderful times with the regulars. Lose any prejudices you may have and you'll be welcomed and have a wonderful time. Only slight snag is no disabled toilet, but with a building originally of this age not a lot that can be done. Never a shortage of helpers to assist me up and down though!

Soulless, pricey gay bar. Ended up in here on a Friday night once and there was virtually noone there! Even if I were gay I wouldn't voluntarily choose to drink in this gaff. The elss said about the gents' toilets the better.

i have visited this bar several times and found it to be boring, cold, and lacking in BEER,SPIRITS and any other stock i had to change my order 3 times because they didnt have what i wanted,

the toilets are useless flooding and stink greenwich deserves more we all deserve more than this pit has to offer x

foul waspish queens with their stings out and their coked-up noses in the air. cold? check. unfriendly? check. an absolutely disgraceful hole of a place. not for me, or anyone civil, thanks.

"New and funky"?? The Powder Monkey is an affront to everything that is decent about drinking in pubs. The Cricketers was a perfectly acceptable old man's boozer, charming in a timelessly downtrodden way. Now replaced with this load of old tosh.

Having read a few of these reviews its quite obvious that most have a bias view point on the fact they were a big fan of "The Cricketers". This is about "The Powder Monkey". The Cricketers is no longer relavant.

The Powder Monkey is Greenwich's PREMIER GAY bar. It features the only real dance floor in Greenwich, and has a different atmosphere on every floor. On the ground floor we have a typical bar atmosphere where everyone chats to each other, can have a seat and its generally really vibrant on a busy night. Then theres the dance floor which gives the bar a club atmosphere, with top DJs playing each weekend, and then theres the relaxed atmosphere in the lounge bar where people can just enjoy a drink.

The decor on each floor is different, and is quite frankly incredible. Imagine a classy bar in Central landing in the heart of Greenwich. The entire venue looks like a great deal of money and effort has been spent in making it look and feel great. And with no entrance fee I think your getting your moneys worth when you go for anight out there.

For people trying to connect this bar to a "pub". Well, pub does not nearly justify it. Pubs are traditional and old. This is new and funky. Its a bar, and on weekends its a bar/club. Where else in Greenwich will you find similar? No where. Because quite frankly there is nothing in Greenwich that even begins to compete with the Powder Monkey.

But hey, dont just take my word on it. Go see it for yourself! Most of these reviews sound like simple attacks from people bitter at losing their local traditional pub, and I feel are totally misplaced here. Dont let them deter you from trying out this great venue!

Another place ruined by the greed of Greenwich Inc. If you want a gay bar, go to the Rose. If you want a drink try any pub up Royal Hill.
The Cricketers was never more than a good old fashioned local, but had decent beer, friendly staff and great music and atmosphere on Sundays. I gather the building was falling apart and needed a lot of work but that does not excuse what they have done to it structurally.
This is almost as bad as the destruction of the Bar du Musee. Avoid.

Clearly a1ex is on greenwich incs payroll! The Powder Monkey well designed and beautifully crafted??? Its cold and lifeless and was designed by that over the top prat that has made his name decorating peoples homes to a worse standard than they were before! Lawrence whatever hes called. The disco floor is remarkable but only because it looks like someones front room with the windows boarded out and sprayed silver! and the Lips!!! tackarama! The Cricketers was a remarkable old pub that has just beened cloned into another greenwich inc disaster. Nice to see the rose seems to be a hell of a lot busier than this awfull place. I wonder if they had planning permission to knock a great hole in front of this listed building, I think not....

The Powder Monkey is an excellent new Gay venue for Greenwich. It has been well designed and beautifully crafted.
The Ground Floor Bar is well shaped, fashionably decorated with a good range of drinks available and there are sufficient bar staff to allow a pretty, quick service.
The First Floor Disco is remarkable for it's good use of space; a DJ box, a reasonable dance area, shelves & stools around the walls and a corner bar serving the same selection of drinks as on the Ground.
The Second Floor Bar is a classically designed smoke free area with velvet trappings and furniture fit for the queens who mostly grace it. There is a bar but no draught is sold up here.
The only downside is the toilets which are in the basement. Two urinals (in the original shape of lips) and one cubicle for the entire pub!
The DJ's music plays at a good volume on the First Floor and a resonable volume on the other two; reasonable enough to allow conversation. The staff are friendly. The clientel are of mixed ages although there are a few too many 'fag hags' around but there is no apparent exclusively Gay door policy. The Powder Monkey is a fantastic venue and a much needed addition to Greenwich's already diverse range of drinking places. The Cricketer's which it replaced was an unremarkable old pub; Greenwich already had enough good old pubs to satisfy.

if greenwich inc where more concerned about there customers than making frank another dollar then this place would be great!

Can't quite make my mind up about this place. It's a decent addition to the gay scene in the area but feels a bit like it's trying too hard. Downstairs bar is nice and open with a decent choice of draught lagers and friendly barstaff, (presumably chosen for being young and pretty). Disco bar is good enough if you can get your head round the fact you're in a georgian terrace in Greenwich... Upstairs "lounge bar" - while good that they offer a good sized smoke-free space - feels claustrophobic and too carpeted.

BUT blah blah blah it's a good night out with friendly punters. Nice mix of ages and a cut above the usual holes the pooftas have to drink in!

Visited this pub last week thinking it was still the cricketers, unfortunately it is now a gastro pub with no atmosphere what so ever, mind you the beer was'nt too bad though.

Absolutely souless. Like a hotel lobby or a bar in an airport. Luckily there are plenty of other good pubs in Greenwich. This isn't one of them.

Its always a shame when somewhere you like shuts down but times move on...

I actually had a really good night there. I've just discovered it after reading a couple of good pieces in the press. Its now a really cool new gay bar which is needed in Greenwich after the Gloucester shut down.

The Powder Monkey looks great, really eye catching design and has a bar, dance floor and lounge area over three floors.

It has a really friendly atmosphere, cute staff and customers and the drinks are really well priced. A real find in Greenwich.

They also have regular top scene DJs and a really entertaining karaoke night plus huge front windows that open and let the fresh air blow in on hot days.

I'd definately reccomend it to anyone looking for a good night out.

another pub ruined by the curse of Greenwich Inc.

One of the few places my wife would go out drinking with me. We'd play connect four and listen to whomever was playing that night. They even sold a little book about a murder that happened there years back. But now it's gone...

This was a fantastic pub with an old fashioned (i.e. authentic) interior with great live music, including folk, jazz, and Ska/Jazz (Skazz). Now it's gone! What on Earth happened? This was always busy on market days. I can't imagine they where making a loss. It was so much better than the poncey and smokey Admiral Hardy or the newly poncified Coach and Horses. When I saw it last the original interior had all been ripped out. What a mistake! There won't be any old fashioned bars left in Greenwich if things keep going down the pan at this rate
