The place was busy when we visited on a Saturday afternnoon and yes it did feel fairly rough in here.
However it had a good atmosphere in here and the drinks were unbelievably cheap at around £2 a pint.
This was the best pub we visited all day and i would pop back.

8/10

I remember going in here a last year maybe a little longer ago it seemed a fairly decent pub, however the new scheme lowering the prices below that of wetherspoons seems to of had a negative affect and some rather undisirables seem to have now made there home day and night so no longer the best place to be.

Well, the good news is that its open again. The bad news? It's now owned by the same dragon that runs the nearby kings head. That pub is one to avoid, o to will this one no doubt.

Thus boozer has been closed down for a few months now. No great loss to be honest except that the great unwashed / Ran Nesbit look alikes that drank there have moved elsewhere. Luckily there is a wetherspoons nearby and they have been made more than welcome there, even though they think it a bit posh for their sort.

Another one that seems to have the great unwashed / unemployable blocking up the doorway every daytime.
As I drive by in my work van, I thank the Lord my taxes go to worthwhile causes...

I've seen some pretty bad reviews but I think this is a decent pub. Good beers. One of only a couple of decent pubs in the whole of Taunton.

Was asked for 3 entry fee tonight as there was a "band" playing.
The band aseemed to consist of a guy beating the crap out of a set of drums with rather more enthusiasm than talent, so I declined.

Well despite previous reviews I found this pub OK. Saturday lunchtime wasn't too crowded and everyone seemed pleasant enough. Staff were friendly, beer was kept well - I'll certainly be returning.

Maybe I spoke too soon. The service is good enough and they do have 3 ales on, but my last visit saw too many yobs.

I hear conflicting reports about this pub from talking with others. I've been in there several times now and I haven't had any problems or objections with the clientele. Calling them rough would be to They have some real ales that I drank without complaint, indeed I go back for more. The interiour is well worn, and another reviewer called it an "old-fashioned town pub" and that fits the bill. When you consider all the other pubs in Taunton town centre this is really one of the better ones.

Well...it was cheap....and they were playing Kashmir when we walked in...but thats it!!

Even though it was lunchtime, just about everyone in this pub was pretty well oiled. I got the feeling things could kick off at any minute. Maybe it's always like this. Didn't hang around

This pub is just a few doors away from from a wethersoons boozer. If anyone finds the ambience of wetherspoons rather too chic and sophisticated, then this is the pub for them.
It's very socialable, everyone seems to be everyone else's best friend; in fact one guy seemed to be the best friend of everyone else in the pub.
If you want to fit in, it helps if you come from Scotland, or at least the north of England.

Got naked in this pub on a number of occasions! Excellent.

It is old fashioned - I enjoyed the old fashioned music on the jukebox.

Old fashioned town pub.A bit smokey but when you get used to that it's not bad.Pool table at the back of the bar and a skittle alley out the back.Three real ales on with Doombar in excellent condition.Good food served at very resonable prices.Handy for a pint on the way to and from the railway station.
