The rose hill opened again this Friday. It looks great inside and had a wander full atmosphere. They have real ale and guines and of course lager and spirits. Definitely worth a visit. There are 3 areas to sit in all very different and it has outdoor seating out the back and at the front. Definitely a hidden gem just off London road. I believe that they will be serving food in the near future too

No ale, I could only see two handpumps in the upper bar, both empty, unlike the last time I was there, I'm sure there was four in each bar back then, was told something about not much call for it, but I was offered a bottle of typical Asda or Coop ale which I refused of course.
Needless to say, wont be back.

Great bar under it's new incarnation as the 'jamaica inn'. Harveys and doom bar plus a guest ale, plus some interesting bottles of ale and lots of rum. As suggested by the name the place now has a jamaican theme. A refreshing change from the samey samey pubs you see everywhere now.

I'm not a regular, but when I popped in a while back they had no draught beer due to a "dispute with the brewery"! However, the bottled ale was fine and reasonably priced. I don't know why bottles are regarded as second rate.

Well worth finding. It was actually closed on the afternoon we went but the barman was sitting on a bench at the front and let us in and served as an acceptable pint of Harveys (London Pride and Doom Bar were also available). Split level bars - obviously an old pub which has been knocked through into the house next door. Some nice features (timbered ceiling for example)even though it has been altered over the years. Small smoking area at the back. They are obviously trying to make a go of this place and offer live jazz and quizzes etc., although we were told that the neighbours keep complaining about the noise and the council have been round on a couple of occasions. (There's an old saying about this - if you don't like pubs then don't bbusy a house next to one!!!!) Still - come on you customers keep the noise down and don't get the pub into trouble!!. Apparently the Sunday lunches are very popular. Superb exterior as you can see from the photo. This place is owned by Enterprise Inns who restrict the beer choice which is sad as this is the kind of pub which I'm sure would benefit from a greater selection of real ales (especially from local micro brewers). We liked this pub!!

Nice enough. Sat outside for a few pints of Harveys recently, which were served well. Food looked pretty good.

this is more than just a really cosy side-street pub...
the staff are especially friendly and courteous and the sunday roasts are the best in brighton (have tried a LOT and i think rose hill tavern is giving thomas kemp a run for it's money!)

i never went in this pub before moving to the area ( and believe it became really run down before recently coming under new management) - but i think others should venture to try out this well kept secret off the london road

Out with the old and in with the new and good riddance I say. The old owner drove this pub into the ground and it looks like the new one has saved it. Well worth a visit if you're in the area - fantastic food too.

I like the pub, but I've given up affording more chances to the poor beer quality, last time undrinkable (refunded). Time for the manager to move on if he ain't interested.

This is a pleasant little back street pub. Unfortunately the beer quality is not the best.

A great little pub, just off the main street. The Harveys could be a bit better, but always served with a smile. Pool, darts and all the traditional games and a cricket team too.

Lease is up for sale. Have to hope it is bought by someone who does not want to change too much.

After watching the 24 hour Grand Prix on Viaduct Road - its a few moments to amble to a smashing pub to drink superbly kept Sussex ales and throw a few arrows. There are 3 small rooms, one of which has a pool table.
very friendly; the antithesis of the Hare and Hounds just 300 merciful yards down the road.

Only just discovered this little gem tucked away in the back streets of preston circus but what a gem. I reckon you could film a WW2 movie in here without needing to do any thing to it. This place just reeks atmosphere. I can see the men in WW1 uniforms walking in the door having just got back from the trenches etc. etc. Sorry i'm begining to ramble but we have destroyed so many pubs over the years trying to improve them that its just so good to find one that slipped through the net. Oh, by the way, the beers good and the locals seem quite tame.

This pub is great for both locals and students! great food at low prices, served till 8, and always a good night out. with arguably the best pool table in Sussex, also darts, chess, crib and, of course, snakes and ladders! come one come all! no children after 9pm. all dogs allowed.

Very fun pub - does not take itself too seriously and always a good night.
