Dexters in Basingstoke are no more. It is now Giraffe.

Oh, and it's not Dexters anymore, it's renamed as a Giraffe chain restaurant now.

My office sometimes use it as an after work drinking club for 5-7pm but that's because it's close. In reality it's a burger restaurant with a bar area attached. It ain't no pub! At least the bar staff know how to serve drinks correctly. No real ale in here of course.

I haven't been here for about 3 years... I can remember poor service and poor food, complaining to head office and receiving a reply to say that they would investigate the problems and let me know the outcome. Are they still investigating or do the Head Office not care about their customers. Speak with your feet... there are plenty of other restaurants in Basingstoke!

Your mum and friends are easy to please.

My mum and friends went in here the other night and she said that the food was fine and the service was brilliant. They just wished that they could smoke inside.

Why has this place lasted this long, are the people of Basingstoke not interested in good food and service at a fair price.
As long as you all go it will survie and still get bad rieviews.

Last time I went in there for a quick bite to each at lunch, the food was not anything special, the waitress brought us out 2 plates, 2 drinks and the ketchup,

when we received the bill it had 12.5% tip on it,.....

S*D OFF sprung to mind, and we asked her to take this off

I regularly tip especially at nearby restaurants such as Zizzi's near by which have exceptional service, but i'm not being forced to pay a 12.5% tip at a tacky burger bar

.......... won't be going there again!
Aceman - 18 Jul 2007 10:24
Meals expensive , drinks expensive , crowded ( i dont know why ) . Very expensive 12.5% tip added to the bill . Not recommended at all . Avoid this one go to the wetherspoons next door .

I like Dexters, the food is good and I have always recieved good service. The meals they serve are fantastic and you do not feel rushed to finish. Yes it is quite pricey but I am more then happy to pay for good quality food. Check it out and you will not be disappointed.

I've eaten there several times - not the quickest service but unbelieveably good burgers and salads

Went in here yesterday and after waiting ages to get served, found out they've stopped doing draft beer (except Guiness). So we all got up and walked out!

I went for a meal yesterday and was completely disgusted by the way I was treated. Our waitress did not write down our order, so then bought us the wrong food. Then spun us the biggest pile of lies I have ever heard to get herself out of trouble. The food was horrible and the service apalling. I would recommend that you avoid this place at all costs, I know I will.

been there a few times, food was ok,.. although last time we went we were charged 12.5% service charge,...

nearly 4 tip for her to bring out two plates and 2 drinks,... I'd rather have gone in the kitchen and got the 2 plates myself,...

I do leave tips, but assuming I was happy to pay that kinda spoilt the meal,...

haven't been back since, and have no intention of again,

'Unit R2'- says all you need to know.

Agree with previous comment that drinks (lager or cocktails only) are OK, but the food is average at best. Ridiculously slow service with no apology. Would not even consider returning, especially with the choice available nearby. Management here need to go back to business school.

Average pedestrian "american style" restaurant. Just about ok if you have kids or like bieng screamed at by them !
sharp_glass - 18 Jul 2005 14:30
Food is fantastic especially their breakfasts!
Nikki - 25 Feb 2004 12:54
Great food and drink, and the especially cheery staff made the experiance even better... even thought it was busy! I am from America myself and loved the food very authentic - Nice Milkshakes and Strawbury Daquires! Recommended
Mike Waltz - 15 Aug 2003 17:08
It sucks! The food is not American as it advertises! Drinks are fine, but stay away from the food - only the salad is good. Smoothies are runny and expensive. Better to go to Lloyd's a few doors down or Nando's only ladies night for free sangria!
