Formerly the Swan, and this motif shows up in the splendid mirrored bar-back decor. The rest of the pub is also unruined and is a cosy and proper pub. I had Portobello Spring Ale which was very palatable.

Popped in for a swift Beck's Blue (£3) for the first time since re-furb. They haven't done too much vandalism thankfully, although some bar stools would be nice. Richard, the guv'nor of many years, has retired and gone back to Ireland; perhaps he took the portrait of him with him (?) Seems the staff of a few years back have also moved on too. Four real ales, including Sambrook's Wandle. No London Pride. TV just shows rugby and whatever is on terrrestial channels.

Next on my Camra Pub Guide and an improvement on the Prince Edward.

Interesting two room pub, laid out for dining in one and drinking in the other. Pretty busy on a weekday night.

Nothing too memorable about it.

Welcoming and traditional two bar pub - front room with decent size screens for sport which you could hardly hear from the rear room with the christmas tree and fireplace. Three ales on - London Pride and Harvey's Sussex Best both in good nick. Lovely pub.

A proper pub somewhere you wouldn't expect one. Three rooms/areas around a main bar. Old worn/lived-in pub feel to it. They had Pride, landlord and harveys on. The Harveys was fairly good.

Visited whilst on a pub crawl of Notting Hill/Bayswater area. After three poor pubs this was a vast improvement. A proper pub. Nice interior and good beer. Well worth a visit if your are in the area.

Enjoyed a long session in here on a Saturday evening, superb local type boozer in what I think is a great, but obviously touristy area.
Hogsback TEA on handpump one of my favourites, I'd like to be sat in there right now.

Was flat-sitting round the corner so called in a few times. Beer is generally well kept, Harveys and Hogsback last week, although I thought that the Summer Ale, which the landlord recommended, was tired. Friendly and, for the area, a rare survival of an old-fashioned local.

A local pub which is very friendly and welcoming. Nice beer and well worth a visit. The interior is old and beautiful with what I would think are plenty of original features, but unfortunately now very tired as well.

I paid my first visit to this pub during the afternoon a few days ago, and thought it a pretty decent backstreet pub. It wasnt very busy perhaps three or four punters including me in there. But the landlady was friendly enough, and I thought it was the sort of place that would be good for a quiet pint or two. They had Hogsback TEA and Harveys Bitter. I didnt have the Harveys, but the TEA was excellent. Theres an excellent original Victorian bar back in place as well.

This is definitely a decent pub in an area where there arent too many of them. Definitely worth dropping in for a pint if youre in the area.

The Guiness is still fabulous, Richard the Landlord runs a friendly pub with an eclectic clientele. This is not a bad thing, and the mix is very happy and convivial.

Proper boozer. Landlord always has a slightly befuddled expression as befits landlords of old, before they became obsessed with marketing and left it to having a decent pint in front of a real fire. Decent pint of Pride. Two bars one of which has plasma tv's for the football, second much quieter. Pork scratchings and peanuts the limit of the food, thankfully a pub that has refraned from becoming a gastro. Bar staff friendly and helpful.

Old fashioned corner local. Two casks. Limited soft drinks. Little effort made. Laid back. There are features in the bar that are of note, but on the whole it feels small, cluttered and unremarkable. On a different occasion it could appear quite charming.

As described - nice, cosy and traditional, but welcoming to all; let down by a dull pint of TEA (what's wrong with Bass !)

Great, traditional back-street boozer in an area full of poncey bars and chain pubs. It's great to escape here on a Saturday afternoon and read the paper or watch some sport with a few pints of Hog's Back T.E.A. Marvellous.

One of the best pints of Guinness in London, a friendly staff, and a back room that's all I could ask out of a pub.

Not the widest beer selection--the kind of place where you pick a drink and stick with it. Not the cheapest pint around by a long shout, either--but worth it when a good beer and maybe a chat with the managers or a quiet place to read the paper is what you're after. The pub quiz on Tuesdays is good fun as well!

Nice traditional pub not too far from Notting Hill Gate. Note the immensely impressive ornate bar back and the swan logos on the glass work above the main windows. This pub used to be called The Swan and is on the CAMRA Regional Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. Mainly a locals pub, but friendly and welcoming to visitors. Seems to be run by a rather genial and large Irishman. 2 real ales on last Sunday - London Pride and Hogs Back TEA. Rather cowardly, I went for the London Pride - should have tried the TEA in retrospect. There is a large main room with a nice warm fire for cold weather. Note the snob screens by the bar counter, although I suspect they are not original.
In conclusion, recommended and well worth visiting

A rare treat in London...... friendly, welcoming owner and staff, good quality drinks, good measures, relaxed atmosphere, owner with good sense of humour!!
Seek it out and enjoy a good laugh. We'll be back!
