Paid a rare visit to this pub. I used not to like it, and the beer quality was variable, to say the least. But not now. admittedly the beer is Palmers, but the pint of 200 I had was excellent. Staff and regulars were friendly and efficient. Only had one as Karaoke was being set up, and at my age I can't stand much noise! Worth another visit though.

Some people are really stuck in the past. Why would you want a pub to be dark and dingy. The Mermaid is a lovely pub which is very friendly, serves superb food and great beer. The hotel rooms are beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. I stayed there for six months whist working in Yeovil and have nothing but praise for it.

I agree with BobO, went in yestaerday and I thought 'Oh Dear'. I new this pub in the late 70's and 80's and it was always dark and very atmospheric. Basically painting the oak panelling should be regarded as a crime. It's certainly ruined it or me.

Popped in a couple of weeks before Christmas and found the whole place painted out - including all the lovely extensive wood panelling - in what appeared to be cream undercoat. Returned after Christmas and, alas, it isn't undercoat, it's topcoat! A real shame and an opportunity missed, as the place has now completely lost any character it once had and, because of the new 'paint job', looks more run-down than ever.

The 'in place' of the seventies and eighties is now much quieter and the restaurant's reputation is not what it was. Nevertheless still serves decent beer and good food at a reasonable price. One of the better pubs in Yeovil.

I was regular here in the late 70s and had more than one stint behind the bar too. It was packed thurs fri and sat nites pre club opening hours. Its a very historic hotel with loads of character and a good cellar. Was once renown for its Bass and does a very good line in Sunday lunches. Has probably got more character than a lot of the pubs in central Yeovil.
