A disappointing experience and sadly my wife and I will not eat there again. Poor waiter service, dreary staff, an unfriendly landlady, mediocre food which sounds better on the menu than it actually tastes, fiercely overpriced drinks, a distinct lack of customers and atmosphere made for an uninspiring Saturday night. ( a good job my wife speak with to each other unlike most of the other diners ) Here is a classic example of a village pub trying to be an upmarket city restaurant but failing miserably. We were hoping for a pleasant evening in a village pub with good banter, wholesome food, cheery locals and a welcoming environment. We did not receive this. Michael Buble may be a good recording artist but we endured his crooning on a repeating loop for the entire meal...

Visiting family in village for New Year had a lunch to wipe out the hangover. yes it is done up more modern but there was a cracking log fire, and serveral tables of drinkers, many of them local to the village. Sure there are tables given over to food, but pubs have to survive these days. There were 4 beers on, 6X, Gem, Doom Bar and Festive Totty from Cheddar which was replaced with Yeovil Star Gazer. If all pubs served beer as well as it was here i wouldn't be complaining. Overall excellent food (not cheap) and beer and it was rammed with customers.

I'm afraid that this feels less of a pub and more of a restaurant. There are about three or four tables for drinkers, and the rest are set for diners, most with reserved notices. The two beers on were an uninspiring Doom Bar and Spa but I can say that both were in excellent condition. Nowhere else to eat in the area so tried food which was just OK and not as exciting as the blurb above would have you believe. A major disappointment. (on the plus side, if it's a nice day there are ample tables and chairs outside to DRINK - when we were there there was a group of other people also saying why don't they just call this place a restaurant and be done with it)

Pleasantly surprised by the transformation this place has undergone recently. We had a great meal and were impressed by both the beer and wine selection.

Oh dear - another good country pub with a 'makeover' trying to look like an out-of-place city wine bar. I used to drop by from time to time and have a sandwich etc for lunch - a wide choice of fillings at reasonable prices. Now....prices almost doubled (8.50 - for a sandwich!!) and choice severely limited. I shan't be going there again sadly.
