Pool table, jukebox, screens in every booth which is a nice touch. Couple of ales on and good for watching sport. Quite popular with students and not a bad place.

Popped in for a quick pint recently whilst in the area. Nice clean pub, good beer, friendly staff and clientele. Top marks! Will definitely use it again when in Chelmsford

Following my return to chelmsford,I came to check out all that's happening with all of my Favourite Pubs,The Wheatsheaf is certainly no exception,I returned fo find a very nice barman, very friendly and attentive, and answering all my questions about the pub cheerfully.

When I was Last here the Wheatsheaf was a Qs pub,but is now been de-branded,yet all the friendly atmosphere and magic remains of it's former self.

The pub's Video Jukebox, has been upgraded and can now play any Top 40 Audio track going back to 1952-as well as any top 10 Video going back to 1980-it is also worth noting that all credits are free Mon-Fri 4-7pm.

The only downside I can find is the price of a pint here is now 3.10-for Fosters or Carlsberg,But i have found that is the going price for all the Pubs in Chelmsford as a whole.

It has,nt put me off visiting again,I'll be back soon !.

I think Jay28 has hit the nail on the head there. I'm in complete agreement! (and I'm mid-twenties).

And I've read a book :)

If you're into Lager and football and you read FHM this place is definitely (or should that be "defo"?) for you.

If you are over 30 and have read a book in the last 10 years you are going to find it hard work.

Great pub just out of the main city centre and down the road from the train station. Really good atmosphere these days and no trouble whatsoever. Fab pool tables, pinball machine, jukebox and lots of screens showing all the good matches.
A good pint and a boel of chilli topped chips, who can complain? :)

Excellent, large pub for sport, good mix of students and locals. Food is ok for a quick bite.

for those of you who haven't visit the wheatsheaf recently the pub has been under new ownership since nov 06. completly redocorated and cleaned, a decent pint of beer, good food, and probably the best pub in chelmsford for live sport, the wheatsheaf is probably one of chelmsfords best pubs.
the price of the beer has gone up a bit, but this has kept away some of the 'rougher element. i would reccommend this pub to any body who is after a good night out,a bit of live sporting action, in particular the rugby or football or just a quite drink and bite to eat at lunch. DEFINATLEY.

I have to say I totally disagree with the last post. have worked in this pub for the past 2 years and been a regular customer, and never ever felt threatened. One of the safest pubs in Chelmsford I'd say. I can recall three fights at the most and yes, you do get your fair share of riff raff who've just spent a night in the polive cell, but there is definitely not "near death levels of violence". some drinks are very cheap, food is good, just needs to be served for longer hours

Follows an amazing trend with pubs of being adjacent to a police station and being able to offer near death levels of violence, even on a quite midweek evening. Had the displeasure of living opposite the pub for six months. Used the pub on the way back from the train station between 6 and 7 as this seemed to be the time CID drank in there and seemed to keep the lid on it kicking off. The 1.50 pints adds fuel to the fire.
