think BusterGut should get real. This is a chain pub (Ember Inn) catering for volume custom and is straightforward about it in the way the pub and the menus are laid out. My wife and I had lunch there twice recently, on weekdays, and the service was O.K., not fantastic, but O.K. I had gammon grill both times which went down a treat as the gammon was cooked well done just the way I like it. I tried two of the ales which were fine. What you see is what you get!

Very busy on a Saturday lunchtime, but the incredibly slow service at the bar didn't reflect that.
Was driving so unable to get stuck into the beer selection, but there were five ales on tap including ones from the Moles Brewery, Lodden and Woodforde Wherry. Most expensive was £2.99 a pint.
Two of our party ordered tea and it took around 20 minutes and two reminders to deliver it to the table.
First time I had been to the Harrow in about five years, and while it seemed a good place for a relaxed pint - especially in the large garden - I wouldn't come here in a rush again.

Unpretentious pub that is one of the best Hornchurch has to offer. The staff and atmosphere are warm. The beers are good and prices are ok. Not a knock out though.

Oh dear what a crap place. Real Ale badly kept and when it runs out, they don't turn the clips round to indicate it's off. Ordering is a bit like in The Cheese Shop from Monty Python - Bombardier ?- sorry off, Adnams ? - on order, London Pride ? - just sold the last pint. This is not really a pub is it ? Barmaids more interested in doing their stock checks, glass collecting and talking to mates rather than serving - the customer does NOT come first here. Takes forever to get served. Avoid this pub. Oh and it's full of thick, Essex chavs and their kids.

Havnt set foot for years, hated the place. Its one rather noteworthy feature was the view into the ladies toilet from the garden. One could quite clearly observe the pulling down and up of underwear as ladies settled down on the pans in each cubicle. It never put me off my beer. Once observed a woman take down the cubicle curtain , roll it up and put it in her bag. She'd probably nicked all the others, hence the view.

Went in here on my way to Hornchurch for football and beers..
firstly i got ID'd.... which kind of threw me, i havent been ID'd for at least 6 years now. maybe they were checking the Id of everyone definatly over the age of 21 so they could say they have done their job or something..
Ok pint for an OKish price. i must be getting used to cheaper places in Romford.
Because it was chucking down there were no chav scum in the area let alone the pub.
Staff seemed friendly enough.
Will probably pop back. although when the sun comes out i'm steering well clear.

The good thing about this pub is the quiz which is held every Monday. The quiz is good and well attended and the quiz master was very friendly. Well worth a visit for the quiz alone.

Agree the only good thing this place has going for it is the garden. Its quite a nice place for lunch if there aren't too many of the usual crowd there, as this place is full of poseurs who think themselves god's gift (lots of flicking of hair extensions so be careful of your beer). This place seems to be constantly refurbished, the money would be better spent on recruiting more bar staff.

Perfect pub for you if you like Plastics and Chavs.

Agree with lots of these comments, has recently been redecorated and looks good. The service and the sort of customers are awfull would not return

A really expensive place to drink. If they had proper ale available all the time and at a reasonable price, then this could be a nice little pub. The chav element needs to be ejected first.
realaleman - 3 Dec 2006 02:09
Way, way too expensive. Had to wait 35 minutes to get served and it wasn't even that busy.Bar staff are the rudest, laziest, dumbest for miles around. If it didn't have a garden for the summer months it would have closed down many years ago.
steve_the_cool_bloke - 29 Oct 2006 11:45
all below is true, i live round the corner and me and my mate drink down here all the time. used to be better but getting bad now.

at the mo you can only use plastic glasses outside due to recent glassing.

How expensive is this pub. You really do need an American Express Platinum card to drink here. I notice that the kids in their little cars have a way of avoiding the excess charge on the beer and that is to have a cool box in the boot of their Ford Fiestas full of bottles of Budweiser. Next time I will bring my own wine. I would just avoid during the hot weather as the chavs migrate from afar to this watering hole.

Mmmm. Ages since I was last in here, and will be a long time before I enter again. Too young, too chav, too expensive and too long a wait for drinks. It is a nice looking pub from the outside, but do NOT judge this book by its cover.

agree with all below...used to be my local and a good pub before they changed owners..now its a chain. And to be honest food isnt the best for how pricey it can be. Very Young, Very Chav. Summer in the garden I was even sitting next to some old Orange Essex girl in a bikini...it is pretty cringy!

on a par with llyods just more expensive , full of chavs in their little cars personally not a favourite pub of mine only drink in here if hungry as food is good .

Used to be a half decent pub but spiralled downhill since last manager left. Full of young kids as they know they will get served, probably because theyre mates work behind the bar! Laughable notice recentley put up on front door & around bar: 'over 21's only' average age still 16. Toilets regularly flooded. Used to have great food but since new menu, now not so good. Never seen greif in there however & i'll still go there.
Avoid on sunny days though, unless you dont mind packed beer gardens and 1/2 hour wait for drinks!
Adam_Ant - 29 Nov 2005 07:55
Not a bad pub. It has a friendly and relaxing atmosphere but the drinks prices are out of this world. Some of the prices here are more expensive than Central London.
MrWhiskey - 29 Sep 2005 17:58
Very slow service. Ever since re-opening as an Ember Inns pub it's been terrible. They need more staff with more experience, not 18 year old kids.

Perfect pub to relax in esp in the summer . do good quiz nights also.
DNA1984 - 9 Aug 2005 16:05
Beer is expensive and the cask ale is variable. OK when the barrel is new, but they don't know how to look after it. Full of chavs, Essex slappers and men who look like they own bulldogs.
anonymous - 24 Jul 2005 17:55
Not bad if you are there for drinks only.
The food is good but the staff seem incompetant when it comes to getting the orders right.
Seems to be getting a reputation as a pub for chavs to go and get bladdered before going elsewhere.

Jackrum - 23 Apr 2005 15:35
A nice little boozer with a big garden, great in the summer till the hordes arrive but if you know the bar staff the wait is not that bad!
