The landlord was eccentric (but friendly enough) when I visited in 2010... Not sure he still owns it though.

This had been on my list of pubs to visit for a number of years and we finally managed a trip ot two here in the autumn. A very attractive looking pub just on the borders of the village with a large car park. A good selection of ales, some local to the area. Very friendly service from the young staff makes you feel really welcome. The pub itself is split into various rooms which makes it quite intimate.
We ate on both occasions which, in my opinion, was quite expensive for what it was. The first time they still had a sunday roast (very pleased to have this bearing in mind it was around 6pm). Despite advertising that they had a new chef the food was all pretty average and nothing special - not enough to make you want to go back just for this.
This place excels in it's beers which is what this website is all about. A lovely place to while away a few hours in summer. When I last passed here on a sunday in November there was a sign outside saying "Closed - sorry". Hopefully that was a blip and we are back up and running

This is a good traditional local pub, it has an extremely varied and tasty pub menu, the food is excellent. It has a good atmosphere and Alan and Lorraine are extremely welcoming hosts. As for the Dog Walker - what rubbish!

Good pub quiz on a Sunday night 8:30 start, lots of fun and laughter.

Thanks Alan and Lorraine for making our local pub a fantastic place to visit.

Are you sure you have the right pub thedogwalker? Alan is always friendly and welcoming to all customers.

We managed to get to the last day of the mini beer festival yesterday. There were still 5 beers left in the outside beer festival area when we arrived; Oakham Inferno, Dark Star Hophead, Vale Gravitas, Hopback Spring Zing and a Cottage beer that I cannot remember. All the beer in the beer festival was a reasonable 2.60 a pint. Wolf brewery helped out by providing the cooling for the beer festival and also provided four barrels. All the Wolf beer had unfortunately been drunk earlier in the beer festival. In the pub on hand pump was G/K IPA, Adnams Bitter and Shalford Stonely Bitter.

the landlord is an awful, awful person, does not have the concept of 'helping others', perhaps he should leave the hospitality business if he is that bitter and twisted.

Three handles all to GK, not good, just unfortunate timing, Flanker's Tackle on for the Six Nations. Today, Thursday, Adnams Best, Rusty Bucket and GK IPA, coming next - Cottage Brewery Lotus, Courage Best and Woodfordes Admirals Reserve. In the pipeline Buffys Norwegian Blue, Stoneley Bitter and Mighty Oak Maldon Gold. See you soon, I hope, normal service resumed

Oh dear a free house with all three handles given to Greene King Beers. I was most disappointed to see GK IPA, Morland Original and Flanker's Tackle. Flanker's Tackle was not familiar to me as one of GK's beers until I looked closer to the pump clip and saw the Westgate Brewery. I do not expect to see a GBG regular free house with all beers given to Greene King. I hope this was bad timing and bad planning as this is a favourite pub of mine.

Lovely pub with really nice food, only objection is that it is slightly noisy if there's only two of you eating, but the landlord is a really nice man, if slightly OTT at times, all in all a nice evening out.

Lovely country freehouse pub just outside of Colchester. Its surprising how far out in the country you feel when its less than two miles from Layer Road football ground.

Friendly pub with 3 ales on offer (Adnams 'Best', St Austell 'Tribute' & GK 'IPA'). The 'Tribute' I had was very well kept, my mate had no complaints with the 'Best'.

The food is a big draw to this pub with quite a selection on the wall to left as you enter. There is also a restaurant area also to the left and rear of the bar area.

I understand two guest rooms are available.
