Great little pub, serving great local beer.
petergoesrock - 9 Jul 2012 10:46
A definite pub of character and one of the better bets in the area.
It is located a fair way from the town centre, which might be no bad thing. I found the condition of the fff ales a bit below what I would expect from a brewery tap (on a quiet tuesday lunchtime , admittedly)
Uncle_Dunkel - 29 Nov 2011 17:33
nice friendly pub and good ales
andy49 - 7 May 2011 22:08
Standard street corner local (and there ain't too many of them around these days) serving decent Triple F ales and the odd guest beer. The Alton Pride was a good pint - a solid proper pub with decent ale.
anonymous - 26 Mar 2011 22:49
Good beer but some odd customers.
beershot - 4 Jan 2011 13:18
This pub is the Aldershot tap for the fff brewery (Alton). Pub itself is a bog standard "town" pub. Pretty dull outside, inside decor similarly-but clean, food bog standard (but cheap). BUT if you like fff brewery (I do) then this is worth a visit ANY time. My visit was a quiet lunch-time. Pressed Rat excellent. Barmaid had nose buried in paper (opposite bloke doing the same - looked like a couple that had just had an argument!?). Just wish I lived a bit closer and I hope the thin lunch-time client count was not indicative of a big problem.

Decided to pay a visit to this pub prior to a match at the nearby Recreation Ground. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from the station/stadium, but it was well worth making once I got there.
Showcasing beers from the Triple fff brewery, there were six hand pumps serving Moondance, Alton's Pride, Pressed Rat and a beer from the nearby Flowerpots brewery among others. The Pressed Rat was only 2 a pint and the Moondance was outstanding.
The pub itself is quite clean and modern, with a nice wooden floor and some kitsch scooter memorabilia on the walls, especially in the small front room.
Food was also on offer. I saw a small pizza menu offering four or five classic pizzas which looked very tasty as they were brought out under my nose. I think there may have been a more comprehensive menu as well, but someone pinched it before I'd had a chance to read it.
Aldershot is generally a terrible place for pubs, but this is a real winner and I'll be sure to make the trek down there next season.

Good selection of real ales. Quiet, but it was a Monday. Young barmaid was on her lap top so not much conversation. Nice open log fire.
Christiano7 - 25 Nov 2009 11:26
Great pub. Triple fff beers were Pressed Rat, Alton's Pride and Moondance. Stairway was on the board but not available. Other beers were Hog's Back Autumn Ale and Vale Something Wicked. Friendly pub and recommended for a pre match drink.
GuideDogSaint - 7 Nov 2009 21:49
Triple fff beers and a pleasant interior make it worth searching for this pub - a grand place for a pre-match beer. A pleasing change to some of the rather drear pubs in the town centre
Arctium_lappa - 4 Oct 2009 00:12
A great little pub - four fff ales on, no guests as the handpumps weren't working.

A good place for pre-match beers - about 15-20 mins from the station but worth the walk...
eddierowles - 12 Sep 2008 08:57
A great little pub serving a range of Triple fff beers on, although no guest beer. I'm not from the area so I had a half of each and all were tasty, well kept beers. Alton's Pride, Moondance, Stairway to Heaven, Pressed Rat & Warthog. Also had some bootled Belgian beers too by the looks of it.
Unintrusive TV showing football, some scooter memorabilia on the walls, friendly staff and locals.
Only about a mile from the football ground and has limited street parking in the area so worth parking there for a game.
Seems to be some talk on here about this pub closing down but I can't see it happening - this is a gem and well worth seeking out!
Rod_Hariga - 7 Sep 2008 11:43
Great little pub on edge of town, friendly customers and interesting selection of beers. Very impressed when a large crowd of us turned up unexpectedly but the staff very efficiently dealt with all our drink and food orders.
Trev - 16 Aug 2008 22:04
I can`t belive people are still calling me and saying the pub is closing, and 1 name keeps cropping up {i wont say who as it is not important} but what gets me is this person is a member of camra and comes in to the pub, if you have a problem then please talk to me and stop spreading silly gossip, you are not doing my trade any good and i thought camra was trying to save pubs not close them with gossip, so the PUB IS OPEN and as the saying is USE IT OR YOU WILL LOSE IT.

I have been at the white lion now for 2 months, and have met some very nice people who like there ales.
I would like to say that the white lion is not closing and being turned in to flats, i am here long term and welcome old and new customers.
I have put back the dart board and have sorted some live music for the coming weeks,
it will be good to see you all back in the white lion
the_boss - 26 Jan 2008 13:59
I hear a new landlord/manager started a few weeks ago and is doing a grand job, looking forward to getting across to see it and enjoying some of those fine ales
mrsref101 - 14 Dec 2007 11:37
Sorry to read all this, I have always received a warm welcome and they have done a great job on the renovation. The Ale is always good and very reasonably priced. If I lived nearer it would be my local, especially now they have live music.

KenW - 18 Nov 2007 19:43
it can only be better then, viv. we might start going back in there if the stroppy cow and the man that knows more about beer than Camra are off.
anonymous - 17 Nov 2007 10:10
Apparently Triple F are merely stitching up the current incumbents by getting rid of them and getting managers in.
King_Viv - 15 Nov 2007 22:01
saw graham from triple fff at the woking beer fest on saturday night, it's definately not shutting, he says it's business as usual.
anonymous - 12 Nov 2007 13:36
If it's true that FFF are selling this place then that's a real shame, I actually had decent ale within walking distance of my house! The headcount had seemed to be increasing recently also, in previous months is was very quiet in there even on a Friday evening. Guess the local's just don't like decent ale ;-)

Another nail in the coffin for real ale in Aldershot.
yorkie - 6 Nov 2007 13:36
CANNOT BELIEVE THAT TRIPLE F ARE PULLING THE PLUG ON THIS, THE BEST REAL ALE PUB IN ALDERSHOT. TERRIFIC RELAXED ATMOSPHERE, EXCELLENT LANDLORD AND LADY AND SUPERB BEER. IF ANYONE FROM TRIPLE F IS READING THIS, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE RECONSIDER AND KEEP THIS GEM OF A PUB OPEN.
King_Viv - 5 Nov 2007 18:04
Popped into this pub after navigating the confusing streets of Aldershot. The place certainly had something unique about it, plenty of choice for real ales and there was no music in the background which made conversation easier.

Sadly i hear its to be closed down in a month or so, which shall be ashame.
aleman - 3 Nov 2007 10:42
Popped in for a pint before going off to a funeral. Nice ambience and well-kept real ales - a little gem!
roobs52 - 9 Sep 2007 23:57
Marvellous promotional weekend of all ale at one fifty a pint!! All superbly kept as usual and the 6% Summer Isacumin left the missus with a raging hang over all Monday!!
King_Viv - 28 Aug 2007 19:41
Did you know that the White Lion does off-sales of Triple fff (and visiting ales)in 4 & 8 pint quantities? Highly reccomended for those summer barbeques!
Ale_Argonaut - 13 May 2007 13:05
Finally made my first visit on Saturday night after spotting the FFF signs a few weeks back. Just what a good pub should be! Excellent beers and comfortable friendly atmosphere. The interior is traditional and unpretentious. The only problem is it's all a bit too new and shiny looking at the moment, but should be spot on once it's been worn in a little! Also it seemed disappointingly quiet for a Saturday night - where are all the Aldershot ale drinkers!? I'm just about to move into the area so this will be my local :o)
Beery_Benny - 16 Apr 2007 09:45
Can only echo the comments below. Following the refurb we now have a great pub serving six real ales in great condition. Will be even better after 1st July '07 :-)
yorkie - 16 Mar 2007 09:41
Excellent Triple FFF beer. Will try Hidden next. Great atmosphere (no sports!), a pub where you can actually hold a conversation. Doesn't seem to attract the riff-raff either.
Ale_Argonaut - 12 Mar 2007 10:50
Well, the refurb has been superb!! My two visits have seen at least 6 ales on hand pump and all of them were excellent. Good prices too! Hope that it goes on to be a succes. By the way, anyone know what's happening with The Heron up the road?
King_Viv - 12 Mar 2007 09:05
Looking forward to having some decent real ale within walking distance. However, i like to walk with my dog, any policy on dogs?
gandolf - 18 Feb 2007 18:57
Boy its been hard work but I Have found out today that we pupose to re-open on Feb 23rd with about 4 Triple FFF Ales and 2 others, Yes 6ales!!! NO NOISY SPORT!!!! COME TAKE A LOOK!!!! OR CALL 01252 323832 FOR MY DETAILS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
BryanBlencowe - 8 Feb 2007 17:10
Yippee!! Soon able to get Triple fff on my doorstep! Let us know when you re-open. Could do without the footie though; plenty of other boozers that cater for that anyway. Real ale is so much better with good conversation than all the row that seems to accompany football (yep, I can't stand the game!).
Ale_Argonaut - 29 Jan 2007 10:43
Excellent, looking forward to the re-open!
King_Viv - 10 Jan 2007 09:32
Hey Everyone - We are curranly closed and refiting the place. When we reopen in about 2weeks with will have hopfuly 4 Triple FFF beers and 2 guest Ales. I hope to see you all very soon with our new look and taste.
BryanBlencowe - 9 Jan 2007 10:29
Marvellous - let us know when you reopen after the refit!

I wouldn't mind if there was no footie, I prefer my pubs to have no telly/music/fruit machines etc :-)
yorkie - 14 Dec 2006 12:09
Fantastic news! Will you still be showing all the football once you've been refurbished?
King_Viv - 4 Dec 2006 11:12
That Is Correct Trople FFF have taken us on, We are still open now but will be closing from jan 8th to have a re fit and 6 real Ales put in 4 FFF and 2 quest.
BryanBlencowe - 1 Dec 2006 13:27
Apparently taken over by the Triple F brewery and will be reopening in Jan 2007. Fantastic news, FFF beers are lovely.
yorkie - 1 Dec 2006 12:20
Quiet pub, but friendly staff and locals. Shows the footy too.
King_Viv - 29 Mar 2006 10:22
Went in early in morning, was only customer there but as I say it was early. Traditional designed pub, with quite a comfortable lounge area and Tetley Mild on tap.
Alexh1982 - 10 Jun 2005 03:26
