Nice pub, however the manager overcharges for drinks - we ordered one white wine spritzer and one Southern Comfort and lemonade. The barmaids charged 5.80 but the manager charged 7.95 for the same round! I questioned this with him and he said that we had been undercharged for the previous round as they charge 1.35 per mixer!!! Do yourselves a favour and go elsewhere - the same round at the Wrong Un costs 4.80.

Truly awful place with the most miserable barmaid I have ever come across. Ever heard of being refused a drink because you are holding your money out ? thats the Golden Lion. Avoid.

Full of what look like ex bermondsey boys who have just come from a BNP rally but its always busy and now smoking is banned, you can breath in there.

Tidy inside, decent decor, if a little wine-bar-ish. No real ale, but then it's not meant to be that sort of place. Quiet at the time we visited, but I'm sure it gets packed out later on in the evening. OK to while away a quiet half hour waiting for other pubs to open...or not, as the case may be with the Robin Hood...

Its not too bad there but some of the punters are a nightmare. Its like a Millwall pub sometimes.

I first paid a visit to The Golden Lion a couple of years ago and while I initially thought it was okay, if a little tatty, to be a tad off. My visit last Thursday (7th September) was an uncomfortable one. Admittedly, there was only a scattering of people there, but they were load, rude and rowdy and it made for an unsettling hour or so. The discount prices may be a plus point for this pub, but that isnt an incentive enough to get me in here again anytime soon.

I love this pub. Not cheap compared to the Wrong Un up the road but it has a decent music play list, they used to have brilliant live bands (I hope they still do but haven't been up on a friday in a while) and the food isn't too bad either. I've made some brilliant mates up there over the years. I hope the current management keep the good work up! Also you cannot fault the theme nights. Never seen so many people up for dressing up and having a laugh. I still remember the custard wrestling for Comic Relief last year!!

Well packed on saturday (25/2) but got served pretty quickly.

ideal for a few warm up beers and a good atmosphere.
Nochavsinmypub - 27 Feb 2006 12:47
nice little pub to have a beer before moving on somewhere else... and they now sell fosters!

The Lion is alright, used to be more homely but its gone a bit "wine-bar" since they got new management. Fairly decent though, drinks aren't the cheapest but they have a big screen for footy.

Great pub! it was even better when they use to have a DJ in there on a Thursday night! I use to drag my boyfriend down there every week!

The Goldon Lion. What can i say. How many times i have seen England lose in this pub. Such memories. Germany in 96' France and Portugal in 04' Argentina, Northern Ireland. If you want passion for an England game, this is the place! Bar stuff are the nuts. Dont get in trouble. bit chilly tho.

They've started doing an Indie/Alternative disco night, they're calling it Alternative Wednesdays.
My mate went down there last week for the first one, and told me about it, I went last night and it was blinding. Since I've come back from Uni, I've been desperate, there's just been nothing like this in Bexleyheath before. When word gets around, this will be rammo. PS More Kasabian please!

The best boozer in the Broadway? Maybe.
But like the majority of comments, the 'Lion' is a real fun pub.
Other people have said it, but regular themed nights really are a blast, and I've started seeing other places trying to copy them.
I spoke to one of the bar staff the other week, and they're going to run a regular Wednesday night Indie disco from 1st June which is right up my street.
Still wish they did a decent bitter though.

Id like to add this guy doesnt know his ass from his elbow.

The lion isnt owned by whitbread, and if you hadnt of noticed that every other pub in bexleyheath is a sewage farm so you have lots of places to chose from.
anonymous - 20 Apr 2005 17:24
Absolute hole.....Why try to make an out of town pub into a glorified wine bar. The best thing Whitbread could have done to this pub was turn it into a Hostel. Its big enough to do so. Not knocking the staff because they are very good, but its just the same old Big pub company trying to tart a place up in the wrong part of town to charge more for their drinks, i would rather drink in a Sewage farm than here....

The 'Lion' probably has the friendliest bar staff in Bexleyheath (no, I'm not one).
The vibe is generally good, and can get a real party buzz on when they do one of their special nights.
The Grease night was superb.

This is the pub to drink in if you dont want to be pressured to leave at 2 minutes past 11 (they give you a full 20) and dont have problems with people wanting to cause trouble.

If there is something a miss then it is soon put right by anyone of the friendly staff

The Lion was best when they had them DJ's palying in there on a Thursday night.
DJ Frosty - 3 Jun 2004 17:22
It's not a bad place but I would say that considering I know one of the bar staff. Can be a bit aggro but generally a chilled out atmosphere and some nice beers on tap.
Chris - 11 Apr 2004 17:34
Like a lot of pubs 'the Lion' can be very different from one night to the next. But there's a good friendly regular crowd in most nights. Weekends are busy but the sofas are great for just chilling out.

I think the pubs great, at first you may think its not too good but the more you go, it grows on you, friendly barstaff, but drinks are pricey.
Stacey Jennings - 13 Dec 2003 12:18
This is a fantastic boozer!!
laurie - 9 Dec 2003 14:31
The new governor has started to get some decent bands in to gig. Saw an exceptional blues 3 piece on Friday, called Third Degree. Also 2 very foxy barmaids
G. Jones - 30 Jun 2003 14:31
I disagree with you Gareth. Ohm bar is the best place to drink in Bexleyheath at the moment. free before 7.30 and cheap beer.
Steve Larwood - 24 Nov 2002 16:30
A fantastic little party spot in a long line of pubs strecthcing through Bexleyheath. Recently refurbished, a little bit pricey, but none the less a bloody good laugh.
