Excellent pub with unbelievably brilliant cider (One Eyed Vince!) on tap. Highly recommended.

good pub very friendly, dogs allowed, one thing i would say is that when cooking food which is very good they lack ventilation as it is very smelly during dinners .

Great little pub which is very busy at weekends. Been using it for couple of years now. Regular good quality real ales an good reasonably priced fresh food. The ladies running it continue to make it a friendly place.

Bit of a run down feel to it - they had a coiuple of brews on, I went for the Blindman's Route 66 which was okay if nothing special. Members of the local buidling fraternity/white van man's alliance tend to hog the bar and expect serving first but the staff are quite good at working out who really is next.

Visited for lunch on a Saturday hike in the Invinghoe Beacon area. Big thumbs up as they regularly have Oakham ale on tap, one of my favourite brewerys. There were 3 ales on incl. an Oakham ale and they were all in excellent condition. Will return when in the area.

Visited the pub for the first time yesterday. Tried three of the beers, Tring Sidepocket, Oakham White Dwarf and Milton Pegasus - all were very nice. Also had food which was obviously home cooked and very good. On top of that the service for the 10 of us was prompt and freindly. Sort of pub I'd be very happy to have on my door step.

Has apparently been removed from the 2011 Good Beer Guide.

Beer quality remains inconsistent - when its good its good, but you have to catch it right or disappointment reigns....pity.

Re-visited, beers great (too great - cab home job) " a must visit"

We visited this pub a few weeks back, encouraged by the reviews here. I liked the pub, and the food - the part which rankled me was being refused to serve tap water. My point of view is and always has been is that you are paying customer, requesting a glass of tap water is not an unreasonable request. I do not even mind paying a nominal charge for this "service", what I can not accept is being told "we do not do tap water" and being forced to buy bottled water.
For this reason alone, I do not think I will be visiting this pub again.

As a local, I would direct you to beer monster and bucking f's spot-on reviews. And please do heed the warning - the same people cooking the same food 100 yds away but a/ a lot better here and b/ not as much of a rip off. A rather cliquey pub which I am avoiding mainly for that reason. Changes character in the summer with the tourist trade and not unpleasant sitting near the aviary quaffing a beer in the garden. But you will nearly always be accompanied by a tatooed boat dweller pulling on a roll-up while their slavering rottweiller adoringly "hygienes" its private parts.

Better than the other pub they own. Immediately after entering the smell of frying oil hits like a smack in the face. However the interior, although dated and dull, did seem somewhat homely-like an old persons retreat. The ale was very good-a decent pint of London Pride and the service was good despite the volumes of people. Was intrigued to see the menu after stupidly eating at their other premises and was suprised to find a homemade, laminated(and sticky) menu offering everyday food at a reasonable price. Not sure about the outdated events guide on the reverse (advertising last years new years party) Nothing too exciting however but at least it they werent robbing you for food. Overall this was a good place-would probably come back but only for the London Pride and certainly not for the atmosphere

Tring's Side Pocket wasn't as good as in other local pubs but otherwise very friendly pub and good "home" cooking.

Good selection of well kept ale with Batemans Autumn Fall,Victory,London Pride and Tring Brewery Side Pocket.Judging by the collection of pump clips ,some interesting ale has been quaffed here. The interior is small with two drinking area either side of the front door. The furniture looks to have been purchased from the administrator to Little Chef , the seperate conservatory lacks atmosphere and there are few original features internally but this is more than made up for by the friendly welcome and convivial banter from a pub well used by locals.Dogs welcome when the bar is quiet and there is a good sized garden.Home cooked standard pub grub .Deserves its GBG listing.

At the end of a pub crawl so a bit hazy but friendly staff, a great location and great beer, so a great pub really!

almost PEFRECT.....fantastic staff and landlady is friendly and fun, food was superb and my family had a fantastic day(and i mean 'day',we were very settled for quite some time, the children were welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed playing on the tractor in the back as well as looking at the birds in the pub avery), top marks, would reccomend this pub to anybody looking for a good meal with good beer and lovely people.

Excellent beer and a proper old pub. Tends to be very busy at times, but a cracking pub.

I agree totally with thetwotwins and villageidoit, no frills anywhere, very friendly staff and a great "what you see is what you get" atmosphere.
We sat in the garden where, despite the lack of staff, the tables were kept clear of debris. We only had the ham sandwiches with it being lunch time. They were very good (real ham). As to the other food going past us to other tables, it looked really good and fair sized portions.
I had the Milestone Crusader Bitter. An excellent brew, kept perfectly, served at the right temperature with a smile.
When next in the area, I think we will make a point of trying this Pub again, just to make sure.

with villageidiot here who sums up my feelings pretty exactly

- good no frills food
- honest pub
- good pint of Pride and Sidepocket and no complaints from my lagery friends either.
- dart board
- very friendly staff - very decent landlady.
- excellent beer garden for the summer.

I recommend highly

This pub is a real find - a proper honest to goodness pub. Good selection of beers including local Tring brewery 'sidepocket' and London Pride - I can vouch for both of them!
The food is no frills pub grub and very reasonably priced. Sunday roast including 9 (yes,9) veg was 6.95. It's popular though so you might be forced to sink a couple before you get fed. There is an undercover seating area in the garden as well as a small conservatory and an aviary - very pleasant.
Will make a point of going back

Going downhill unfortunately. Strange atmosphere from bar staff (maybe a bad day), but beer not brilliant either and selection falling off. Pub suffers from poor ventilation and overpowering smell of frying.
pick_e_tippler - 25 Aug 2008 22:24
I've never had a bad pint here and there's often a good mild on tap.
oddbits - 25 Jun 2008 17:10
In decline. Last two visits were disappointing for beer quality. Recently caught the tailend of the beer festival and rather wished we hadn't bothered. When its gone, its gone. The final drops should not be pressed on the public when the only honourable thing to do is bin it, or send it to Sarsons. A GBG entry should be an assurance of a top pint - its not always the case here. Having achieved the standard, it's a shame to let complacency set in.

Excellent friendly pub with a good menu. We hit a busy patch so waited a long time for our food but it was good when it came. Nice garden to the side where you can actually take dogs, not allowed in the actual pub though.

Wouldn't let me in because I had the audacity to have my dog with me. Went to another pub in the village.
twm_sion_cati - 21 Jul 2006 14:49
Vastly improved pub with excellent beer quality, often a mild and/or local Tring beer. Food menu looks good
