The Oak, Aston Clinton

The curtain comes down again after a brief and largely unsatisfactory act that featured the disinterested and generally incompetent Fullers and some fly-by-night wanna-be pub-co. The locals are again (to continue the theatrical analogy) waiting to see if there will be an encore or whether the run is finally over.

The Rising Sun, Berkhamsted

Just about everything, for me, that a pub should be:
- excellent ales and bottled Belgian beers
- great ciders, and a large choice too
- a huge range of unusual spirits
- landlord and staff who take a pride in what they are doing & the quality of what they are selling, all done with friendly approach
- great location

If this place is not in the 2011 GBG, something has gone badly wrong

Pay a visit - you will not be disappointed.

After the bright dawn the early signs of storms ahead. Penbro's unacceptable treatment is symptomatic of a chaotic and disorganised attitude to customer service caused largely by insufficient staffing levels.
The food prices are at restaurant levels but without the corresponding personal treatment. People will not wait and wait to get a drink, order food, or get fed having ordered. They just won't come back.
The Oak is not entitled to customers and if things are not sorted out soon the place will be empty (again)
