Improved a lot since I was last here. Nice spot on the village green with plenty of shady seating outside at both front and back. Food good if slightly pricey, they don't do sarnies or jacket spuds on Sundays as there's a roast menu instead. Their ploughmans are very nice. Beer was Doombar, Youngs and Sussex ale, all pretty good. Very friendly & helpful staff.

Friendly service and a good range of ales, which they were very happy for me to try before buying. The food was decent but nothing exceptional. Overall, a good option if you're in the area but in my opinion not somewhere worth seeking out specially.

Have been visiting the Red Lion for many years and it has changed hands a few times.

The current landlady Debby has been there for a few years and the pub is now everything it always promised to be.

The food is gorgeous and the beer is perfect every time, with a good choice of real ales. Can't say much about the wine list as I'm a beer drinker but my wife says the choice of wines by the glass is extensive and well priced.

The daily food specials always have a treat on and if there is nothing there for you the favourites and regular menu are consistently good and varied.

The pub is clean, fresh and well kept while remaining traditional with open fires etc.

My favourite pub in the area.

on the main road from cranleigh to guildford - very easy to get to and an amazing setting. i had the lamb shank and it was very good! the range of wine on the win list is also very impressive. the staff make you feel incredibly welcome.

Visited the Red Lion during the lovely October sun we had last weekend and it was delightful. Lovely to sit in the garden and when it got chilly we just popped inside for a meal.

The Young's was perfect and the staff were most welcoming and capable. Can't wait to go back when they have the open fires lit in the winter!!!

Highly recommended!

I took my family for a meal at The Red Lion last weekend and have to say we were all very impressed. Friendly but efficient service, lovely food, well presented, a good choice of pub favourites and specials. We'll be going back and would recommend this pub to anyone

I've been going to the Red Lion most weeks for the past 3 years or so. It's become my favourite pub - friendly staff, excellent food, nice atmosphere and plenty of room. I'd recommend it very warmly to anyone.

I agree with the last comment - the 49'er was average - I didn't fancy a second, but it was served in a correctly branded glass, which is essential in my book!! Plenty of seating out on the grass at the front, overlooking the cricket pitch. The road is quite busy though, so not that tranquil.

Plenty of room both inside & out. Beer (Ringwood 49'er) OK, not great. Menu is pretty pricey but food was fine. Waitress service if you sit down (and eat!).

Just been to lunch with my son , wife and two grandchildren. The weather was nice so the garden good for the kids but the food quality was very poor. Clearly they don't have a cook , just someone who cooks food !

Excellent food, especially the lamb shanks and roasts. The steaks are were done just as requested. The portion sizes are really good. The puddings are home made and really delicious. Compliments to the Chef.

I agree with FAB1. Staff polite but struggled to serve the few waiting at the bar efficiently. Tip; If you're eating, sit down and order your pint with the food (unless you're gasping) as this is quicker. Roasts OK and large, but my party's mushroom lasagne was so swimming in fat, that parts of it were used as a dam to hold back the oil slick. Can't remember the pints. Great area to walk.

Average village (foody) pub but pricey. Surroundings better than average.

Sat out the front on Saturday and had a couple of pints, lovely. Unfortunately it was not so nice on Sunday when there was a cricket match; I imagine sitting there watching the game would be tres relaxing.

I have been visiting this pub for the last twenty years and the latest incarnation with Ted and Debbie at the helm is by far the best. Always friendly and accommodating. Great food and drink served in a cosy atmosphere. Long may it continue!

We visit this great pub often, and always receive a warm welcome from the friendly staff. The village green setting is very atmospheric and many a time has been spent in the gardens in the summer enjoying the fine selection of beers and high quality food. The pub has a reputation for great food and wine in the restaurant, and is also a cosy retreat in the winter, hogging the fire with a drink in hand.

Been here a few times since moving to the village, the pub is well known for its food. The garden is really well done.

Asked Debbie the landlady if I could leave a tankard behind the bar, she said that was fine, so I was happy (I am easily satisfied).

Three real ales on, most recently Greene King IPA, Spitfire and one other (Abbot Ale perhaps?).

I will be going there for my birthday meal this weekend.

On our visit the wait for food was awfull over an hour ,we dont mind waiting if you know there is a wait but not to be told and then the food comes out cold,we found it not good enough.
giveusabeer - 13 Aug 2007 10:07
I have to say that I am not in agreement with many of those who have commented on this pub. I have found the atmosphere incredibly welcoming every time I have been there; the staff are attentive, welcoming and well presented. When it comes to space - the restaurant has recently been extended into the barn providing much needed extra seating in a very tastefully decorated, spacious area. The food is of superb quality and whilst the prices seem slightly dear to begin with, it becomes evident upon the arrival of the food that it is worth every penny. I would recommend this to anyone and would also advise booking, especially on a Friday and Saturday night as I have known it to be very busy on occasion.

This is a great pub. It has recently been taken over by the owners of the other village pub. The staff are extremely wwelcoming and attentive. The food was delicious. It is great to see the high standards back again after a few shakey years! Well done!
