The Crown Hotel, Chertsey

The Crown has now had a massive refurbishment and on my visit was packed. A large L-shaped bar is now to the left as you walk in and there is plenty of seats inside and out. The live music is in the "old" bar area as per usual. Good range of ales, Youngs Bitter, Special and Gold (all with new trendy pump-clips) plus a guest, Windsor & Eton Guardsman. Also stocks Meantime London Pale Ale and London Lager if you fancy a colder beer. It is certainly the type of pub Chertsey town centre needs.

The George, Croydon

Cavernous JD pub with two distinct drinking areas, one mainly for food. Fantastic range of ales with showcases given to Oakham and Dark Star beers on my visit. Also tried two new keg beers brewed by Marstons; a craft lager which was very distinctive and creamy, plus an American style IPA called Shipyard, which is brewed with the help of a brewer from Portland, USA. All the usual Wetherspoons features. Well worth the visit!

The Golden Grove, Chertsey

This pub had an extensive makeover earlier this year and is now a great food and beer venue. Haven't tried the food (but will soon!) as menu looks very interesting with plenty of choice. If you like your ale they run a loyalty scheme where you get your tenth pint free! On my Monday evening ,very quick visit, they had 4 guest beers - Goddards Fuggle-dee-dum, Moorhouses Blonde Witch, Skinners Betty Stogs and Hook Norton Lion. The regular ales are Pride and Doom Bar plus Golden Grove brewed by Cottage brewery. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and pretty busy for a Monday night too. Will most definitely be back for both food and ale!
