Hall and Woodhouse lease this property from the Wellington Estate. Very well decorated and in a prim location on the A33. The beer prices are, however, 'through the roof'. £2.05 for a half pint of 'Pickled partridge'!! and it wasn't even in very good condition!!

I love this place; always a warm welcome, the changed decor is good (though i could live without the cheesey latin quotations) and the redoubtable manager Moira is from the old school of hospitality.

Stpo by when you are passing.

see no one has added a review since me a year ago,..

It's still (in my view) the best place to eat in Basingstoke,... very professional staff and great food,....!

I noticed that the last reveiw was 2007?,...

I only started going here in 2008,... but this is by far the nicest place to eat in Basingstoke,...

It's a very relaxing place to sit and enjoy a meal,.. the Staff are extremely professional and the food is fantastic,... was actually there on Monday, and again the food was exceptional.......

We go there atleast once a month now, and will never get tired of it,........

It's probably a little more expensive than going to somewhere like zizzis etc,.. but certainly not by much,.. probably cost me the same as it did when I went to the Spruse Goose over Christmas, and that was crap compared to this!!!!

Food updated and vastly improved very recently. Prices have gone up, but not very much and this is a must visit if you are feeling peckish on a Sunday lunchtime.

Had high hope for the restaurant but was vastly disappointed by the lack of quality and quantity. The chef was obviously trying to pass a piece of rubbery pork skin as pork crackling and stale potatoes as duck fat roasted potatoes. This place seems to be doing a better job at fish/burger and chips, club sandwiches than Sunday roast and main course that did not come out of a deep fat fryer. The irony is we really wanted to like the restaurant and took the plunge to eat the desserts in attempt to salvage the dinning experience. The waitress who initially volunteered to adjust the price of the bill simply did not look us in the eye after no adjustment was offered on the bill.

looked forward to this after re-furb, starters were very good if a little pretentious being the only complaint. Mains were not very good at all all going for the start well and end well but high margin and low quality in the middle. think they have forgotten what they are meant to be and have become a designers whore...

Excellent for a hotel bar. Reasonable prices, good service, and drinkable beer - albeit the ubiquitous Badger. Haven't tried the bar food, but it looks and smells great. Its just like relaxing in a posh relative's sitting room, so leave those jeans at home and dress-up for an enjoyable evening out.

Nice pub in convenient location, good beer and food.

Live music on Thursdays - they have some very good bands on. Next gig is 16th of February I think.
